“Baby, I don’t want you to worry about any of this. Delta sent me a text. She wants to meet with you tomorrow. You can focus on planning our wedding to get your mind off things. How about you take today to relax and maybe write?”

“I don’t have my laptop.”

“I had David replace the one that may have been bugged too. You can use my office to work in if you like. I might be in late tonight. Anything here is yours. Make yourself at home.”

He picks up his phone and types something quickly before placing it back on the table. My phone buzzes next to my hand.

“That’s my number. Call me anytime you need me.”

I look at him and tilt my head. This man has known entirely too much about me. I never gave him my number.

“What don’t you know about me, Clayton?”

“How your pussy feels wrapped around me as I’m deep inside you.” He winks.

I bite my lip, trying not to smile at him. After the full-frontal view I had in the bathtub last night, I can’t help the images that float through my head.

Damn, I need to get my life back before I’m in trouble.

Chapter 15

To See her Happy

Sidney

I took Clayton up on his offer to use his office, but I can’t focus enough to get any writing done. I’m starting to become so pissed with Chloe. She needs to answer my calls and texts.

I want to say this isn’t like her, but there was a time when this was her. She was seeing some guy and she’d sneak off to spend the night with him while I’d watch Ally. I would have to send 911 messages if I really needed her. Otherwise, she’d ignore my pages.

Giving up on trying to write, I get up and head for the kitchen. My stomach growls as I enter the hall. “All right, all right,” I mutter.

“Hey, everything okay?”

I jump and yelp as David appears. I almost forgot he was here. I place a hand over my stomach and take a calming breath. I laugh at my thoughts as I wonder if Clayton only hires handsome men. All his guards are attractive, but David is gorgeous. He has dark hair and piercing blue eyes. He's only an inch or two shorter than Clayton.

“I’m fine. I’m just a bit hungry. I was heading to see if there’s anything here.”

“I’ve ordered some Italian food. There’re garlic knots, lasagna, and a salad. Clay said that’s what you would like.”

I smile. “How does your boss know so much about me and my preferences?”

“Clay is very thorough in his research before he pursues an arrangement. However, in your case, I do believe he was a bit more invested and thorough about understanding you.”

“Understanding me? It sounds more like he’s stalking me. Should I be worried?”

I start to question my decisions as of late. This isn’t normal. This situation is crazy.

“Clayton is my best friend. You can trust him. He’d do anything to keep you safe and happy. I think in time, you’ll learn why he’s chosen this route and it will all make sense to you.”

I palm my forehead. “You know what, I think I’ve lost my appetite.”

“Please try to eat something. Mr. Hennessy will be upset if he finds out you haven’t eaten all day.”

I bob my head, still lost in my thoughts. “Okay, I’ll try.”

“Good, if you need me, you can use the intercom system. Enjoy the meal.”

I stumble into the kitchen with a million thoughts. Clayton’s dad didn’t seem so horrible to me. Yes, at first, I was a little offended, but then I realized Clooney and Eileen were just hurt by how they found out about the engagement. I guess that kind of did suck.

I grab something to eat and then head upstairs to take a bath and relax. Sitting on the side of the bed to gather my thoughts, I pick up my phone to check for a message from Chloe. Instead of finding a reply from her, I find a text from Clayton.

Clayton: Check your accounts.

I quickly open the app and log on. I squeal and fall back on the bed as I see my funds have been released. I want to kiss Clayton and run out to do some retail therapy to make up for this sucky week.

Sound by the door grabs my attention. I look up to find Clayton in the doorway, watching me. He looks tired. I look at the time on my phone. It’s after eight.

“Long day?”

He runs a hand through his hair. “You have no idea.”

“Come, sit with me.”

He starts to remove his suit jacket and then works on his cuffs. I marvel at how smooth he moves, as if always in control. It’s like he knows each move is alluring and sexy, drawing me into his trap.
