He pushes away from the door and starts stripping off his suit coat. I shrug mine off and toss it to the side. A rush of adrenaline thrums through me. The first punch is sweet. Not as good as having Sunny in my arms, but it’ll do for now. I grin and launch myself at Eric.

SUNNY

How are my lips still tingling? I lick them. The second I do, Mack’s eyes drop to my mouth. I glare at him.

We’re back at our place while Doc Edwards checks him over. I demanded we go to urgent care after Nina and I pulled him and Eric off of each other. Mack refused, so the next best thing was to have the doctor come to us. I honestly have no idea what has gotten into Mack lately. He’s acting so out of character.

I know he’s not a big people person, but what happened tonight was nuts. His temper has been on edge since last night. He really didn’t want to go to this charity event. I hadn’t either, honestly.

I dreaded seeing him with a date, but I also wanted to see how much it would hurt. I knew I needed to get used to the fact that this would be my reality one day. And I figured tonight was as good as any to rip the Band-Aid off, knowing it was inevitable that Mack would find someone to spend his life with.

I didn’t really get to observe anything because Mack didn’t give Nina the time of day. All he did was glare at my date. Eric glared right back at him.

“He’ll be fine,” Doc says when he’s done cleaning Mack’s right eyebrow.

I couldn’t get it to stop bleeding, but Doc did with a few butterfly closures. It’s annoying that even with a busted face, Mack is still as handsome as ever. I’m not even going to lie; I think seeing him like this has only heightened my attraction to him. Not that I will ever admit that to him.

“Told you I was fine,” Mack grumbles, pulling out his phone. He starts clicking away at it. “You should see the other guy.” He smirks proudly, not taking his eyes off his phone. Honestly, I’m not sure who won the fight. They both were going blow for blow and practically smiling while they did it. Men are weird.

Right now, I don’t even care what the two of them were fighting about. My mind is too busy replaying what happened between Mack and me. How he had kissed me as though he were starved for me. How his fingers had delved inside my panties. How wet and ready I was for him. That night we spent together comes rushing back to me.

I shift in my seat as the throb returns between my thighs. It’s always there lately. It’s slowly driving me insane. I’ve tried to fix it myself, but no matter what I do, it’s never enough. If anything, it only makes it worse. My body knows that Mack can do it better if I let him.

“Thank you for coming,” I tell the doctor as I stand to show him out.

“How about you, Sunny? When Mack texted me to come over, he said you’ve had a few bouts of nausea.”

“I’m fine.” I glare over at Mack again. He’s now taken his eyes off his phone and is actually paying attention to what the doctor has to say. What was he doing on the phone? Who was he texting? My mind always goes to it being a girl. It’s stupid because it’s never a girl, but my fear of that is always riding me.

“I can squeeze you in for an appointment on Monday if you’d like,” Doc Edwards pushes.

“If it happens again, I’ll make an appointment.” I lie right through my teeth.

“She’s lying.”

“Mack!” I snap. I can’t believe he called me out in front of Doc Edwards.

“How about you both come in on Monday? I’ll check on Mack’s eyebrow and give you a quick exam.”

“We’ll be there,” Mack answers for me.

“I have work, and you’re supposed to come in and talk to the kids,” I remind him, trying my best to get out of going.

“Come whenever. I’ll squeeze you in whenever is convenient for the both of you. During lunch or even after school.” My mouth goes dry for a second because I can’t think of any other excuses of why I wouldn’t be able to go.

“We’ll be there, doc.” Mack stands to shake his hand, and I know the reason he’s probably being pushy is because Mack likely told him to be or made some donation or something. If I wasn’t freaking out about my secret being found out before I am ready to tell it, I might actually think Mack’s behavior was sweet.

I watch as Mack shows Doc Edwards to the front door. “I ordered some stuff from Maggie’s. You didn’t eat much today. You must be starving.” My stomach growls at the mention of Maggie’s. They have the best dessert and appetizers. “Got a little bit of everything. Scary movie night is back on.” I guess that explains what he was doing on his phone.
