The bikes roar to life.
And my heart goes with them.
Justin helps me on, like he did the first time, back when we were just friends and I was broken and he was trying not to love me yet.
I wrap my arms around him.
And he turns slightly, his voice barely audible over the rumble.
“I was going to wait until the end of the ride.”
I frown. “Wait for what—?”
But he pulls something from his pocket.
Small. Silver. Simple.
A ring.
My breath catches.
He doesn’t ask from the ground. He doesn’t kneel.
He just turns, in front of the club, in front of God, in front of the memory of everything we’ve lost.
And says, “You already gave me your heart. You gave me our son. I can never give you anything as close to what you’ve given me. But I’ll damn sure spend every breath in me trying. I want to give you forever.”
My hands shake.
“Yes,” I say, choking on the word, but meaning every syllable.
“Yeah?” he asks, just to be sure.
“Hell yes.”
He slides the ring on my finger.
I press my forehead to his back.
And one by one the bikes move and we ride.
Every curve, every single one of them earned.
And as we ride, wind in my hair, the thunder of the club at our backs, the man I love in my arms in front of me, I know this isn’t just the end of the road.
It’s the beginning of our forever ride.
