“I am angry, but emotions cause mistakes. I don’t have room for mistakes. I have more than Deja counting on me to succeed.
“I promise you, Cole. Once the Alliance is in place, we will find her and bring her home. For now, I need you to remember the task at hand,” he says.
“And how long is that going to take?”
“I don’t know. Things are falling into place. LaSalle and I are on track,” he says.
“Yeah, whatever. I need some air.”
CHAPTER 11
Silent Takeoff
Brooklyn
Eleven years later …
I stare down at my phone as I sit on this plane, waiting for takeoff. I’m heading to Scotland myself. I still can’t believe Felix found her.
I had hoped he would, but I didn’t know it would happen this fast. My cousin is amazing at what he does. I knit my brows as I debate whether or not I should tell Logan where I’m heading.
“We’ll be taking off momentarily, sir. Is there anything I can get you in the meantime?” the flight attendant says.
I look up at her and blink. “Aye, thanks. Let me get a whiskey.”
“Coming right up,” she says with a seductive smile.
I’m not interested. I barely see her in this moment. My mind is spinning with so many questions about what I will find when I get to Scotland.
I was in bed when I got the call from Felix. Once I got the location from the secure box, I grabbed a few things and took off. I didn’t stop to think about anything else.
Eleven years. I’ve wondered for eleven years where she’s been. If she’s okay.
The Alliance didn’t come together as fast as I would have wanted, but it’s happening now. It’s all within our reach.
That’s the reason I was willing to ask Felix for his help. That, and the fact that I know in my gut Dylan is up to something. He has never forgotten or given up on Ciara.
I fear he’s going to make a move to find her himself. I almost feel guilty that I have a lead on Deja, but nothing for Dylan to follow up on. I keep telling myself that’s the reason I’m on this plane.
Once I get to Deja, I can see if she knows anything about Ciara’s whereabouts. They are cousins after all. I keep telling myself this isn’t because I want to lay eyes on her with my own.
This is because I want to get her to safety. I want to pull her in close so I can make sure myself that she’s protected.
I thread my brows and tuck my phone away. Logan will only stop me if he knows where I’m going. I will talk to him when I get back.
Logan
“That was good. Yer getting better,” I croon as I walk up behind Raven.
I bring her here to one of our private warehouses, which we sometimes use as a gun range at least once a week. Her aim is getting a whole lot better. I remember the first time I placed a piece of steel in her hands.
The fear in her eyes spoke volumes. However, once I knew I couldn’t stay away from her, I had to teach her how to protect herself from my granda. I have too much responsibility to always be around.
Laki and his watchers have been doing their job, but you never know when things could change. I’m not willing to take that kind of risk.
She cranes her neck to look up at me. “How can I not? I have a great teacher.”
“What do ya mean? Yer a natural.”
“Ha, you and I know that’s bullshit.” She scoffs and laughs.
I peck her lips and tighten my hold around her waist. I’ve fallen in love with this woman in my arms. When I first met her, I didn’t know I would fall like this.
I also didn’t know I would spend eleven years keeping her hidden. I’m growing tired of all the hiding. Thank Christ that will all soon be over.
I can’t wait to see the look on that smug bastard’s face when we finalize our next step. I hope I’ve made my granda Ian proud. I wish he could be here for this.
“Hey, where did you go?”
I focus as she searches my eyes with her gaze. I love those beautiful brown eyes. They are always so expressive.
“I’m here. Just thinking,” I reply.
“Are you coming home with me tonight?”
“Aye, I’ve missed ya. I plan to spend the entire night.”
“Good, I’ve been needing some attention,” she purrs.
I lift a brow and smile down at her. When she cups me over my jeans, I growl and dip my head to take her lips. Knowing just how I want to spend the rest of the night, I toss her over my shoulder and turn to head out of here.
I nod for Christan to clean this place up for us. He and Stuart can follow us back to the house once he’s done. I think to call Brooklyn to tell him to handle all business for tonight so I can cut my phone off, but I remind myself I don’t have that luxury.
