I slow my own chewing to watch her as she eats. Something I can tell she’s not used to for some reason.

Me and the guys at the station? There’s not a lot of room and virtually no privacy, so I’ve probably seen, heard, and smelt all the worst that people are capable of.

“I guess this is the part where you ask me what we should do today.” Bridget teases me a little, even poking her tongue out before she pinches my plastic tray's last rogue french fry.

French fries for breakfast, it’s why I love this place.

“You mean, what you want to do, or what you want done to you?” I say with a grin in reply, wiping my mouth. Glad when my words have the intended effect.

Her nipples stiffen through her thin shirt, and her face flushes. My foot slides under the table, gently shoving her feet apart, so I know her legs are open for me.

She lets out a little grunt, her breath catching as she closes her eyes, grinning.

“Maybe a little of both,” she teases me again, but her voice is lower this time. Husky.

“I like it when you talk like that,” I growl back, eyeing the rest of her food, which she pretends to look shocked by.

But she slides her tray a little closer, letting me know I can help myself to everything she’s got.

“So. What does Ash do on his days off, apart from rescuing damsels in distress?” she asks, her eyes wide and brows raised in interest.

I struggle to think for a second, not because I wonder what it is I actually do, but because the more I look at Bridget, the more I’m amazed by her.

“You really are beautiful, you know that?” I ask her back, not ignoring her question, just needing to tell her.

She blushes and looks at her food while I think a little harder, puffing air out of my cheeks.

“I was gonna head up to the farm, that takes up a lot of free time. Before we ugh…before yesterday,” I explain, feeling my face redden a little.

The farm? You think she’d be interested in that place?

But the mention of it piques her interest, and she asks me a dozen questions about it.

Where it is? How big is it? Do I have many animals? That kind of thing.

“It’s really just an old house on a bunch of land,” I reply, knowing that it’s years away from being finished at the rate I’ve been working on it.

“Oh,” Bridget says. “But still. An old house out in the countryside. That sounds amazing, you must spend a lot of time out there, huh?” she ventures, but I shake my head again, smiling.

“Not really. I spend most of my time at work. Off duty, I’m pretty boring, really,” I admit.

The picture in my mind of my untidy apartment downtown actually makes the farm more appealing by the minute.

“I don’t think you’re boring,” Bridget sighs, giving me such an adoring look I have to suggest we go.

Being this hard in public doesn’t feel right, and with Bridget’s rose buds on display, the last thing I want is some asshole checking out what’s mine.

We walk back to my truck together, when I suggest we could go see the farm if she wants. “I was gonna head out there anyway.”

What are you doing? Idiot! No girl in her right mind is ever gonna….

“I thought you’d never ask,” Bridget says in a mock tone of flattery before she giggles, her breath shivering again as I help her up into my pickup.

“Only if you really want to,” I tell her, surprised more than anything that she would genuinely want to see the old place.

“But we’ll need to pick up a few things on the way. Not too boring for ya?” I challenge her with a little chuckle of my own.

She timidly reaches for the collar of my jacket, and I lean in to kiss her.

She shudders a breath and closes her eyes and it feels like the whole world just disappears whenever we’re this close.

It’s been no time at all since we met. But already, it’s like we’ve known each other forever.

Like we’re somehow just picking up from wherever we left off.

Weird.

“You’re not boring, Ash,” she whispers, our lips almost still touching.

“And you’re not gonna be a virgin for long if you keep grabbing me and kissing me like that,” I caution her, groaning and rolling my eyes when I feel her hands stroking me through my pants.

“How far away is your farm?” she coos, sounding like a complete innocent, but she knows how fucking hard she’s making me.

“About an hour,” I swallow, straining as hard as the pressure in my pants to even try to remember one thing I need to get once we head out that way.

“Then I’ll count the minutes,” she sighs again with mock drama in her voice.
