The kiss shifted to raw, desperate hunger. It was no longer gentle, no longer tender.

Our tongues danced and dueled.

She moaned against my lips.

My cock stiffened.

I will never let you go.

Feeling my control slipping, I pressed my throbbing cock against her belly. At the contact, she moaned again and I felt the vibration all through me. I was starving for her taste, for the feel of her skin against mine, for the warmth of her body against mine. I needed her wetness. I had to have it.

When I finally pulled away, I saw that she was flushed, her lips were swollen, and her eyes were hazy.

She shivered.

“From now until forever, you will be my life, my world, my queen.”

A tear left her eye. “Azar. . .I love you.”

“I love you too.”

Suddenly, a child screamed, knocking us out of our moment. It was a ringing cry almost inhuman in nature and sling through the air.

Fatou trembled. “Wait a minute.”

What was that?

My nerves set on edge.

The child screamed some more, and that noise scraped against my heart as if it was a serrated knife.

Fast, Fatou left my hold. “Jade. T-that’s Jade!”

What?

She raced down the hallway. Those dreadlocks whipped behind her.

Worried, I followed after my love.

Whoever is bothering Jade, will die.

I summoned Soul-Breaker to my hand. The sword appeared and warmed against my palm, ready for battle.

The child screamed again. The noise echoed through the castle, rattling the windows and making the walls tremble. The haunting sound filled my heart with sadness.

Shaking her head, Fatou increased her speed. “We just passed by the room where she was supposed to be sleeping.”

I blurred to her side. “So, she’s been moved?”

“Yes.”

The scream came again.

“No! What is happening to her?! I shouldn’t have left her.” Fatou went so fast that I almost couldn’t catch up. “I think. . .she’s in. . .my father’s dungeons!”

A jolt of fear shot up my spine.

Her fangs came out.

A large wooden door appeared.

When Fatou got close, she kicked the door in. Pieces of wood shattered. She pushed through them.

I cocked my brows.

She’s even more powerful.

Fatou raced down the stairs.

Or is this simply the power of a mother’s love?

I blurred after her.

Once we hit the bottom, Fatou reduced her speed and entered the room, seeing what was going on. “What is this?”

I slowed down next to her, looked in front of us, and took in the sight.

Draped in regal robes, a man stood next to Jade. A crown sat on top of his head. I assessed his face and those pointed ears, and knew who he was immediately.

Fatou’s father.

Ten men turned our way and yanked out their weapons—swords and spears. Others held odd guns that I knew didn’t carry regular bullets.

I sniffed the air.

There’s magic in those guns.

But that wasn’t the most fascinating thing in the room.

I spotted little Jade. She wore purple pajamas. She rested on her knees, and her hands were clenched into fists at her sides. Streams of black liquid spilled from the corner of her eyes.

And in front of Fatou, four vampires in shackles, twisted on the floor in pain. Their legs had bent back in the wrong directions. Dark blood dripped from their eyes.

Rage radiated from Fatou. She stomped forward. “What are you doing, Father?!”

Jade turned her head and spotted Fatou. A bright smile spread across her black-streamed face. “Mommy!”

Jade jumped up and tried to run Fatou’s way.

Two men grabbed her.

That triggered maddening violence within me.

I growled, “Let go of her!”

“That’s right.” Fatou rushed over.

Ignoring us, her father continued to gaze at the vampires in utter amazement. “Jade, we are not done. You must scream for grandfather again. Show me how you make the vampires hurt.”

“Stop that!” Fatou got close to her father’s men. “Don’t tell her to do that! What is wrong with you?”

The guards charged for her.

“I don’t think so!” I blurred their way before she could even raise her hand. I slammed one to the side. As if weightless, his body flipped backwards five feet into the air and then crashed to the ground.

Another man reached for Fatou’s neck, his fingers tangled in her dreadlocks. He tried to yank her back.

“Don’t touch her!” I grabbed his arm. He let her go to deal with me. That was a bad move on his part. Quick, I lifted his body in the air, spun him around, and tossed him into the other men coming our way. Like a bowling ball slamming into pins, they all crashed to the ground.

“Enough!” Fatou’s father glared at me. “You dare bring a demon into—?”

“Fuck you, Father!” Fatou stormed over to the men holding Jade. “Put her down. Now!”

They looked back at him.

The king nodded.

Jade rushed to her. “Mommy!”

Fatou hugged Jade, picked her up, and then pointed at the king. “How dare you test your granddaughter like she’s just a weapon.”

He crossed his arms over his chest. “Because she is a weapon.”
