He slows his strokes. “You okay?”
I nod, not the least bit embarrassed. “This is just… I dunno… do you feel it?”
He nods and leans down to kiss me. “Yeah, honey, I feel it too. Come with me. Can you do that for me? And then I’m going to hold you the rest of the night.”
I want to come again for him, but I don’t know if I can. “I don’t think—”
He takes it like it’s a challenge. He reaches between us and strokes my sensitive clit. It takes no time before the orgasm takes over, even more intense this go around.
He grunts his release, and I feel him twitching as he shoots his seed deep inside me.
He falls forward to his elbows, hovering over me, but I want to feel him against me.
I practically pull him down to settle his weight over me, and it’s not until we’re flush against each other that I breathe easier.
He rolls to his back, taking me with him so I’m sprawled out over his body.
My head is resting on his chest, and the fast thumping of his heart is right under my cheek.
Lost for words, I just lie here, not sure what to do next.
Truth is, I want to lie here and revel in the feeling, but another part of me wants to get up and run. This feels too big now, and I can see myself getting hurt.
His arms wrap around me like he’s heard my thoughts. “Luna.”
I trace my finger along his tattooed arm. “Maybe I should go.”
He chuckles. “You’re not going anywhere.”
I lift my head to look at him. “That was…”
He strokes my cheek softly. “Everything.” He sounds almost choked up. “That was everything, Luna.”
His words have a calming effect. Maybe this isn’t just one-sided. Maybe something could come of this, but I don’t want to talk about it now. The night isn’t over, and I’m not ready for it to end anyway. “Cole, I wanna stay tonight.”
He nods and wraps his arms around me, locking his hands behind my back and sighing in unabashed contentment.
He holds me tightly. “I want you to stay, Luna. More than anything.”
I close my eyes, snuggle into him, and feel myself drifting into sleep. I’m going to save the big decisions for tomorrow. Tonight I’m going to lie in Cole’s arms and imagine what our future could look like.
CHAPTER 9
COLE
I pace the living room, back and forth.
It’s early morning, and Luna is still asleep in my bed.
Having Luna in my arms in bed is the best feeling. So good that I couldn’t resist her and took her two more times last night.
Eventually, I moved to the chair to resist temptation, but even watching her was just too much.
I forced myself to leave the bedroom in the early hours, sending Stone on a few errands. He just got back an hour ago, and he’s back in the guest house now as I wait for Luna to wake up.
I sit down, my knee bouncing in excitement. But I can’t sit still, so I stand back up.
“Cole,” Luna calls as she walks down the hallway toward me.
I walk toward her, taking in the sight of her in my T-shirt. I pick her up in my arms, carry her back to the couch, sit down, and bury my face in her hair.
I try to calm myself, and then I bring her face up to mine. “Morning,” I whisper before kissing her.
We jerk apart when Leo jumps onto Luna’s lap.
She gasps in surprise. “Leo. What? How?”
She holds her cat to her chest and looks at me. “What is Leo doing here?”
I tilt my head. “Don’t be mad.”
She gives me a stern look and then softly smiles. “How did Leo get here, Cole?”
I brush a piece of hair off her face and tuck it behind her ear. “I sent Stone over to your apartment this morning.”
She bites her lip, and I continue. “I might as well tell you everything. I had Stone get Leo, his toys, your clothes, and—”
Her eyebrows skyrocket. “My clothes?”
I nod. “Yeah, honey.”
She looks confused and unsure, and I hate seeing it. I cup her cheek. “I was hoping after last night, you would know that we belong together.”
She blows out a breath. “It was sex.”
I shake my head, and my stomach drops. “Is that what it was to you, just sex?”
She searches my eyes and cups my cheek. “Cole, you know it was more than just sex.”
I nod. “Yeah, it was. Marry me, Luna. Please?”
I wait for her to tense. I wait for to tell me no, take her cat, and walk out of my house and life forever.
But she surprises me.
She lifts her chin. “I’m going to keep working at the shelter.”
I nod. “I know you are.”
She tilts her head. “I have to give Frank a two-week notice.”
