Alright…here we go since I’m flying right now and you’re going to keep me company.

No, I do not believe country music is a blight on society (who hurt you?), but when I turn on something to listen to, I prefer something soothing. (Who’s stressed? Not me.) Recently it’s been Andrea Bocelli, but I’m more flexible than you seem to be, so I’m not worried about the radio during road trips.

And when did we talk about road trips? Are you just reading through some kind of book on get to know your date questions?

So food…I’m a comfort food eater more than anything else you listed, so my favorite foods would probably be cereal and grilled cheese sandwiches. Every country that I go to has a different kind of cheese and it’s fascinating, so they’re cultural exchange meals, not kiddie food.

Favorite color…that’s too hard. I refuse to participate in madness. Asking me to pick a favorite book would be easier. All crayons are special.

Favorite position…was this actually in whatever list you’re getting these questions from or are you just randomly adding in weird ones? Assuming you meant top or bottom, since I’m boring and not up on the latest lingo about reverse cowboys and such, I would have to say bottom. The top feels like a lot of work when the bottom gets a better payout in the end. (Oversharing? I didn’t think so after your comments about plugs last time but…)

I’m going to have to think about the favorite vacation spot question. Honestly, that just seems cruel and I feel like it’s a punishment for not going to bed on time the other night. But if it’s genuine and not a punishment, this is going to take me a while. How about we narrow it down to several questions like favorite beach or favorite historical sites?

Alright, I’m going to end this here and answer the rest later. They’re starting to serve dinner and the woman I’m sitting beside seems to be reading over my shoulder. Yep, ha, she blushed.

Have a good night.

Chapter 4

Joseph

“He likes confidence.” I took a deep breath and glanced down at the duffel bag on the passenger seat. “That’s the most confident thing I could do. He’s going to love it.”

Hopefully.

Maybe?

Okay, if I said it enough times, I was going to believe it…that was how brains worked, right?

I’d hoped that the drive out to Arthur’s place on the outskirts of DC would’ve given me time to relax, but it hadn’t. Somehow, battling DC traffic had only made my nervousness worse.

Surprise.

Fuck. “Okay, I can do this.”

Daddy liked confidence.

It’d seemed so simple when I’d been at my apartment. Lunch was going to be little…that meant a fun shirt and a few special things. Dinner, well, that was a grown-up date, so another shirt and then it might get late…and everyone knew DC traffic was a nightmare. That meant I should probably plan to stay over…he was a nice guy and would definitely want me safe.

And now I was sitting in his driveway with a duffel bag that looked like I was planning on staying for a few days.

What the fuck was he going to think?

There was confident and then there was presumptuous.

Sighing again, I looked up and saw Daddy in the doorway waiting. He wasn’t laughing, but I could see something on his face that said he thought I was cute, or maybe just ridiculous.

Fuck it. Daddy liked confidence and I’d been very confident earlier, so I was going to show him.

And I was going to keep my fingers crossed at the same time…just in case.

My resolve lasted long enough to get out of the car with my bag and start for the front porch. But then it slowly started to deflate like a balloon that was making a farty noise as the air leaked out.

Yep, I was just a farty noise.

“Hello, ketzel.” Daddy’s greeting said he knew I was worried. “Are you ready to help me pick out the cheeses for our lunch or should we play first?”

Cheeses?

How many cheeses?

Did he have squishy white bread?

“You got lots?” Cheese was so fun because there were so many kinds everywhere I went. “I like playing too, but I forgot breakfast, I think?”

That’d sounded better than telling him all my food was yucky. Somehow I’d run out of cereal that wasn’t mushy and stale. All I’d been able to find for breakfast was whole wheat toast and plain oatmeal.

Healthy things never seemed to go funky as fast as the good stuff.

I must’ve been very depressed when I’d gone grocery shopping last, but there’d been nothing I could do about it this morning. Shrugging as Daddy laughed, I swung the bag back and forth and tried to decide if I should try to stay big for a while.

I liked talking to Daddy, but he was Daddy and that was so much better than worrying.
