“He’s artistic and sees the world differently. He went to therapy and he’s happy.” The fact that I could use that word and not laugh said I was a badass Dom. “He’s got a great career, but it’s one that requires a lot of privacy. If that changes and suddenly he’s not painting anymore, he’s got a lot of other marketable talent I can help him use, and he’s got me.”

Giving them a moment to digest what I’d said, I paused before I continued. “But you can’t keep this up. It’s unhealthy and it’s frustrating. Let him live his life. If something goes wrong, I know he’ll come to you, but his life is wonderful right now.”

I had to chuckle as I thought about Camden.

“His biggest frustrations are about the crush his FedEx guy seems to have on him and the fact that I’m making him learn how to cook.” That was going to be a slow process, though. “He’s in a good place in his life, so you have to stop assuming he’s one step away from crashing.”

Sure, my cutie wasn’t as socially adept as he could’ve been for an adult and he loved little time more than being a grown-up, but there was nothing wrong with either of those things…especially considering his childhood.

If having the best parts of what his childhood should’ve looked like now made him happy, I was all for that. The glimpses he’d given me into his past said he didn’t blame his mother, and it’d shown me that he wasn’t letting his past weigh him down. He was sweet and adorable and I was head over heels for him in every single way.

“He doesn’t need anyone taking care of him, but if anyone is going to step into that role, it’s me.” I left out the specifics of why and just hoped my tone would be convincing enough. “Be his family and stop trying to be his keeper.”

He didn’t need one.

And if he did, as his Daddy, that was my job.

When I’d said my piece, I waited and let them both see how serious I was. After a few moments, Sanderson spoke again. “It’s not going to be easy, but we’ll try. However, if you do anything to hurt him—”

“I’m going to marry him one day, Sander.” Interrupting his very well-done I’m going to protect my child speech, I kept my voice low. “I’m not going anywhere, and I’m going to do my damnedest to keep from hurting him.”

He was my boy.

It’d taken too long to see the incredible man who’d probably walked right past me a dozen different times over the years, but now that I had him in my arms and in my life, nothing…not my mother or his family…would tear that apart.

I had the best boy and I was going to be the best Daddy I could…that was all that was important and it wasn’t anything they needed to know.

“Now, I think it’s time to order, and I’d love to know who’s going to tell me all the embarrassing stories I’ll need as ammo one day.” I had to have something to drive him crazy about before he started asking Wilder about me.

That had both of them chuckling, and suddenly it seemed that I went from an adversary to something closer to a friend. I hoped we’d solved some of the boundary issues, but if our conversation hadn’t, I’d be there for my boy to save him from his relatives and mine.

I’d been purchased to help my cutie and that was what I was going to spend the rest of my life doing. Helping. Loving. Caring. Teasing. Because I wasn’t just his boyfriend or his friend, I was his Daddy, and there wasn’t a more special relationship we could’ve had.

I was his Daddy and he was my boy…and we were going to live happily ever after.
