I shake my head, failing to swallow the lump in my throat.

“So, are you going to introduce me to your new family?” Mario looks pointedly at Don Al.

I swipe my eyes. “This is Don LaTorre, my father-in-law. And this is Sonny, my number one.” The men shake hands, Al and Sonny putting their guns away.

“He’s not allowed to move back to Sicily, so that better not be why you came here,” Al informs Mario.

Mario grins. “Noted. Maybe just a honeymoon? Our ma would sure like to see his ugly face.”

I draw in a deep breath of the icy air, struggling once more with my emotions. Bringing Summer home to visit Sicily would be amazing. She still complains she doesn’t know me well enough. I could show her everything, until there are no secrets about my past or who I am under the tough exterior.

“Come in.” I tip my head toward the church.

I lead Mario back up to the church where I just married the only woman I ever wanted for keeps. The one who’s always held my heart.

Best fucking day of my life.

And to get my brother back on the same day…fuck.

I find Summer at the door, her body and view shielded by Joey.

“It’s all right,” Al says.

Joey steps aside, and my beautiful bride comes out into the cold, scanning our faces with a creased brow.

I hold out my hand with a smile. “Principessa, this is Mario, my brother. He decided to crash our wedding.”

She looks from me to my brother then steps forward and slaps Mario’s face.

“Okay,” he says with a surprised chuckle. “I deserve that.”

Then Summer throws her arms around his neck and kisses his cheek. “Thank you for coming.”

“Welcome to the family, Summer.”

“Let’s go inside.” She looks at me. “It’s time for the family photos.”

I smile and tuck her against my side as we walk together back into St. Mary’s.

There was a time when I thought forgiving Mario would be impossible, even if I died a miserable death. But on a day like this, with the perfect woman beside me, surrounded by my new family, it’s impossible to hang onto my old grief. Mario’s actions sent me here--to my new family. To Summer, my everything. And for that, I have to be grateful.
