I sit here curled in Tank’s strong arms, thankful that he had enough fight in him for the both of us. That he had what it took to come after me and prove to me that I was wrong. That I belong with him. That there’s still a bright and long future for us ahead.

I hate myself for putting him through the pain of the last twenty-four hours, but in the end, it needed to happen. Without his push, I’d still be sitting in my bed, day in and day out, sobbing for my son and wishing there was a way out.

“Thank you,” I murmur as I wipe my eyes on the blanket once again, lifting my head to meet his eyes. It’s time to accept the fact that just because we lost what was most important to us, doesn’t mean we don’t deserve to be loved.

“I would have done it a million times over, Sophie. You’re my whole fucking world, and I intend for you to stay that way. Even if it means you need a good kick up the ass every now and then,” he tells me.

A stupid smile pulls at my lips as he scoops me off his lap and places me down on the edge of the bed before dropping down on one knee before me. He slides my wedding rings off his pinky finger before holding them out to me. “What do you say to a new start?” he asks as he takes my hand in his and gently slides my rings back into place, right where they always belonged. “I fucking love you so much.”

I lean forward and catch his lips in mine. “A new start,” I say, thinking it over, but decide to word it better. “A new start with an angel looking down on us.”

He smiles against my lips. “It’s perfect,” he whispers as I scoot myself off the bed and drop onto his lap to straddle him.

“Careful,” he warns me, still cautious of my injuries.

“Shut up,” I tell him, needing to feel him wrap his strong arms around me and hold me tight. “I need you to kiss me.”

Without another word, my man obliges.

My hands find purchase on his sculpted back and my nails dig into his strong muscles, telling him I need more. He lifts my shirt up over my head and drops it on the floor. After weeks of constantly being covered up, feeling my skin against his again is absolute magic. Goosebumps sail over my body and Tank lifts me up onto the bed, hovering above me.

I slip my thong down my thighs, opening my legs and feeling his erection heavy against my hip. His lips come down on mine and he kisses me with every ounce of love he possesses before guiding his cock to my entrance.

He slowly pushes inside me, filling me to the brim before starting to move, and I let out a gasp as he makes the sweetest love to me, each of us so desperate to feel this closeness.

I hold onto him as he moves in and out of me, his thumb rolling slow circles over my clit as tears remain in my eyes, feeling as though we’re turning a new page together. Tank kisses my tears away before meeting my eyes, making sure I’m okay. And honestly, I don’t think I’m ever going to be okay, but the least I can do is try.

We come together with our lips firmly locked, and I feel my heart mending, pulling the broken pieces back together one by one. “I’ve missed you,” I murmur, not ready to let him go.

Tank smiles down at me. “Never again am I going that long without being inside you,” he tells me . . . or maybe it’s more of a warning. But either way, I completely agree. Some couples talk, some couples touch, but Tank and I, we explode. Despite how much I’ve always loved staying up until three in the morning, curled in his arms and talking shit, it’s nothing compared to when we’re physically together. Sex is our love language. It always has been and always will be.

Tank eventually pulls out of me, and we decide it’s best to show our faces to the world. I’m sure my parents are dying to check in on me and make sure we’re doing okay.

Tank pulls his jeans on as I get myself dressed, still needing to take my time. Tank helps me pull my shirt over my head before following me out of my childhood bedroom and down the hallway. He’s just raising his arms to pull his shirt on as my mother appears from the opposite direction.

“Oh, my,” she gasps with a hand across her chest as she takes him in and starts to swoon. “You just keep getting bigger and bigger every time I see you.”
