“We’ll see about that. They can always come over to our place to play with Shiloh whenever they want. I’ve been thinking we might want to get him a friend …”

I laugh. “I don’t know; Shiloh has always been an only child.”

“We’ll let him pick out his own little brother or sister,” he says, giving me a kiss.

“We’ll see,” I say. My apartment was gone when I returned to California, and Shiloh and I moved in with Spencer instead of finding something else. We even fenced in the backyard, so Shiloh has tons of room to play. It has been the perfect arrangement so far.

We clasp hands as we reach the start of the red carpet. People ask us questions about the movie and our relationship. I mostly just smile and try not to have a panic attack, which goes well until Spencer stops us about halfway through, in front of a red backdrop that seems out of place with everything else.

I look out in front of us, and to my surprise, my parents are there, along with Spencer’s parents, Abby, Malia with Shiloh in his handsome bowtie, Carly, Mason, Tiffany, and a few other familiar faces.

“What’s going on?” I ask. I can’t get to where everyone is standing due to the barricades. I look up at Spencer, questioning him.

“Honestly, I didn’t think you’d walk the carpet with me, so I had to do some last-minute changes. I hope you don’t hate me for this.”

I don’t get a chance to respond before Spencer drops to one knee and pulls out a maroon velvet box.

“Leila Rosetta, I have never loved anyone like I love you. The way you laugh, the way you push me to be my best, and even the way we fight prove to me that we’re meant to be together. Will you marry me?”

“Oh my God, yes!”

Spencer leaps up and slips the gorgeous princess-cut diamond ring on my finger. Our friends and family scream and cheer from their spots in the crowd. We’re mostly separated from the cameras, but they still manage to take pictures of us.

“I can’t believe you did this!” I say. “And my parents are here!” My parents and I have started talking more, and I’m putting up boundaries like never before. They’re still weird about my relationship, but I figured if I were going to communicate better with Spencer, I’d try to with my parents, too. So far, it has gone pretty well.

“I was going to do it at dinner later, but this felt fitting for us. I hope I didn’t ruin it by making a big, public display.”

“I love it. You got all my favorite people together. You did exactly right.”

I get on my toes and kiss my fiancé. When we pull apart, I stare at the ring in disbelief.

“Did you think this would happen when we first met?”

“No,” I admit. “But I’m glad it did.”

“Me, too.”

We kiss once more, ignoring the people around us. We’re in our own little world, and now we get to do this forever.
