A cult survivor escaping her past finds unexpected love—and newfound fears—in a heart-stopping dark romance by USA Today bestselling author Jenika Snow.

After escaping with her life from a terrifying cult, Violet Santos has reinvented herself in the quiet mountain town of Sweetwater Lake. But when bodies turn up in the woods bearing the same ritualistic markings carved into Violet’s traumatic memories, she knows that the hell she fled from has followed her here.

Enter Grayson Iverson, a criminal psychologist working with the FBI to investigate the crimes. He meets Violet and is immediately drawn to the vulnerable young woman with the haunted eyes. And for the first time since Violet can remember, she no longer feels alone. She’s met someone she can trust. But as their intense connection deepens into a passionate romance, the murders in Sweetwater Lake escalate—and so do Violet’s fears. Grayson is more than a protector. He is obsessed.

Maybe Violet doesn’t know Grayson at all. But if the man she loves is not her salvation, then who is he? And what does he want of her?

*************FULL BOOK START HERE*************

Prologue

The Blood God

The blade trembled in my hand—not from fear but from reverence and acceptance. I was born to be here at this moment.

Taking this life.

Blood dripped in thick, warm rivulets down the altar stone, steam rising in the frosty night air like a war cry to the one we worshipped.

The girl was still breathing, her voice meek and frail, her eyes wide and her mouth agape.

Her chest rose with each shallow, gurgling breath, blood spraying out to paint a gorgeous shade of red along her lips.

No one would save her.

Just like I’d been born to stand here in front of her at this moment, she’d been born to lie on this altar, giving up her life for the Blood God.

Around me, white-robed figures swayed to unheard music, chanting in a language far older than any ever spoken.

It was our prayer to the All Father, the one who would rule.

The girl took her last breath, and then all was silent.

The ritual was complete.

Marcus, the Prophet, raised his arms, his voice cutting through the silence.

“An offering to the Great One. Her blood will strengthen Him.”

A thick, holy silence covered us.

But nothing happened.

The wind didn’t shift.

The earth didn’t tremble.

The veil between worlds didn’t thin.

We waited.

Nothing.

A whisper moved through the crowd. Confusion. Doubt.

Marcus’s expression remained stony, but I saw the twitch in his jaw, the narrowing of his eyes as he stepped forward and knelt beside the girl’s lifeless body.

“She was meant to be the Vessel,” someone muttered.

“She was chosen,” another said, more uncertain now.

Then a sound—a soft, broken sob—cut through the ritual space. It came from the tree line, just beyond the glow of the torches.

Marcus stood slowly, his head turning like a beast scenting blood.

From the shadows emerged two small figures, unnoticed until now. A boy and a girl from our community, their hands clasped tightly. The boy was pale and sobbing, watching with hollow eyes. The girl was silent and apathetic.

His sobs grew louder as she stepped into the firelight, her gaze locked on the altar.

They’d seen everything.

The sacrifice.

The ultimate failure.

Her hair was thrown into two loose pigtails, but she was stoic. No expression on her innocent features. The little boy wailed beside her.

I remembered her now: Vienna. A child of a follower of the Bleeding Ground.

Marcus’s expression shifted—recognition, then wonder, then something terrifyingly close to joy.

“Look at her face . . .” he said, voice low and awed as he stepped toward her. A hush fell over the group. “She was born to witness this. Look how it doesn’t affect her.”

He stepped further even more, his robes dragging through the blood pooled at the altar’s base. His hand lifted, pointing directly at the little girl.

“The Blood God has spoken,” Marcus announced, his voice reverberating through the trees. “She is the Vessel. She is the one prophesied.”

A murmur rose like smoke through the followers, some gasping, others dropping to their knees.

Vienna didn’t move. She stared at the Prophet indifferently, still clutching the boy’s hand like it was the only thing tethering her to this world.

He looked at her, and she looked at him—and something passed between them. A bond sealed in blood and silence.

Then Marcus reached her.

He crouched so his towering form didn’t swallow her small one, and took her free hand gently between his own bloodstained palms.

“You’re very important, child,” he said, his voice falsely tender. “Chosen. Sacred.”

The boy’s sobs stuttered in his throat.

Marcus ignored the crying child and focused only on the girl. “Don’t be afraid,” Marcus whispered, even though she didn’t appear the least bit terrified. “The Blood God sees you now.”

And we all did, too.

The Vessel had been found.

And He would rise.

The crowd’s murmurs grew into fervent chants, the energy shifting from doubt to renewed faith. But in the back of my mind, I wondered if this child truly understood the weight of what had just been placed upon her fragile shoulders.
He threw his innocent wife out of his house when she was five months pregnant.
Sicilian billionaire Marcello Bastianelli loved his shy young wife more than anything in the world.

But everything changed when he was given proof that Chisa had betrayed him to his enemies.
He never asked if it was true.
He simply had his pregnant wife driven out of his gates before dawn.
For the past eight years, Chisa has lived in a beautiful home, with more money than she could ever spend, and a seven-year-old daughter who adores her father.
There is only one thing Chisa is forbidden to have.
Her husband.
Every month, she watches from a distance as Marcello comes for their daughter.
He won’t speak to Chisa.
Won’t look at her.
And he has no idea the wife he banished was innocent.

Note: This is a fast-paced, angsty, page-turning billionaire romance. Marriage in crisis, wrongly accused wife, banished while pregnant, forced proximity, no other woman ever. HEA guaranteed

*************FULL BOOK START HERE*************

Prologue

Marcello

THE OLD MAN HAD BEEN standing in the doorway of the study for a full minute before he could make himself come in, and that was how Marcello knew it was bad.

“Get to the point, Curzio.”

“Do you want to sit down first?”

“Do I look like I want to sit down?”

Curzio had taught this boy to drive. He’d taught him to shoot, to shave, to keep his face still while other men lost theirs—and now he had to stand on the good carpet in a house he’d known for thirty years and take that face apart with eleven pages.

He wished, not for the first time that night, that he had the power to change the bad to good. But as people in their world knew from an early age, that was impossible. Life often seemed like an endless series of bads, worse, and not-so-bads.

And what he was about to say, well...

“It’s about your wife,” he said heavily.

This was something Curzio would classify as painfully worse, as evinced by how Marcello had whitened at the mention of his wife.

The second-born Bastianelli heir stood at the window with his back to the room while the rain came off the lake, and the desk lamp threw his shadow up the wall until it covered the whole of it. Six foot four, the characteristic broad shoulders that the men in his family were known for, and an air of violence that could never be washed away, even though it had been years since they were involved in any feud.

Curzio had watched grown men—dangerous men, men who’d done unspeakable things for a living—come into this room and start talking faster than they’d meant to, all because a Bastianelli was present.

“What about her?” Marcello asked finally.

“She’s been talking to Sabatino’s people.” Curzio turned his hat over in his hands, over and over. “I don’t want to be the one saying this to you...”

“Then don’t. Show me instead.”

And so the folder went down on the desk between them. Eleven pages and a paper clip, against four years of hauling this family out of the business one contract at a time, and Curzio hated every one of those pages personally.

“The route,” he went on doggedly. “Not the street. The route itself, the way we ran the Burgess paper in November. Four people knew it, and that includes...”

“My wife was asleep in the car. You remember that?”

“Sì,” Curzio agreed wretchedly. “I remember. But is that proof enough?”

The second page was worse, and they both knew it. A phone number that had no business existing in this city, dialled from the landline in the front hall at three and four in the morning—and there was exactly one person in this house awake at three in the morning. The whole staff had heard her on those stairs, five months along but unable to lie down for more than an hour at a stretch.

The last pages were photographs. A restaurant downtown, the good corner table, a man called Nuñez sitting across from Marcello’s wife with his hand out for the check like a gentleman.

In this photo, it was the girl’s face that mattered, and Curzio could see, just by the way Marcello’s jaw had clenched—the boy knew it, too.

This was not how it should be, Curzio thought painfully. Marcello’s wife was dear to him, too. He would have sworn, would have staked his life that she wouldn’t be able to do something like this. Ever!

And yet...

Marcello knew he was staring too long at his wife’s face. But even though this was just a photo of her, Chisa’s features were such that her face...

It was the kind that made men stupid, even men who were supposedly tough and smart like him.

Her features were soft in a way that he had once thought was no longer possible for modern women. Her brown eyes innocent in a way that made her look helpless while making Marcello feel helpless. When they had first met, her eyes had been swimming with unshed tears, and her fingers shaking as she tied a silk ribbon around the box. And her voice, it had been shaking just as bad as she finally handed him the bracelet she had gift-wrapped with care.

It’s exciting and fills something inside her, especially the covert ops work with MI6. She’s learning the art of espionage and intelligence work but from the safe confines of a comfy desk.

Until a mission goes wrong and she finds herself in the middle of a dangerous game she has no idea how to play.

Malcolm Mays spent a lot of time getting shot at in various parts of the world as a member of British Special Forces. After being forced to retire due to injuries, he signs on at McKay-Taggart and Knight. It’s a job for now while he finds a way to get back to where he belongs. He’ll make some money, heal and decide on how to spend the rest of his life. What he didn’t count on was meeting Vivian. She’s too young for him. Not merely in age but in experience. And yet he can’t stop thinking about her.

When Vivian’s life is threatened, Malcolm finds himself at a crossroads that could lead to happiness or the greatest danger he’s ever encountered

*************FULL BOOK START HERE*************

Chapter One

Vivian McKay’s rules for dating in the modern world:

1. If he shows up to his date with his mom in tow—run.

2. If he watches his phone more than he watches you—run.

3. If he tells you he’s a spy and he might die soon so he’s trying to have one last night—he’s not a spy. They don’t tell you.

4. If he leaves his wallet at home, send his ass back home.

5. If he cries after meeting your uncle, he’s probably not going to survive your family.

6. If he has a girl best friend who he can’t live without—run.

7. If your dog/cat/pet of any kind doesn’t like him, choose the pet.

8. If he talks about all his exes and explains that they’re all crazy—run. He’s the one who needs help.

9. If he’s jealous on the first or second date…yup—run.

10. But the cardinal rule, the most important one is this—believe what he says. He will tell you who he is.

Vivian McKay looked around the space with a huge grin on her face. She had not expected this. When Sophy had mentioned they would be attending Club Dominion, she’d expected something like the plush, luxurious clubs her parents went to and she attended on occasion. When her parents were on another continent. Now she was thousands of miles away and eager to make friends in what was going to be her home club. Which was neither plush nor luxurious. She was pretty sure she’d caught sight of a bucket under one of the sinks. “It truly is a dump. I like it.”

The club was on the outskirts of the city and it needed work, but there was something about it that she enjoyed. Like the club her cousins had built back in Dallas. This place reminded her of The Hideout.

She’d been in clubs owned by billionaires, but there was something about a group of twenty- and thirty-year olds building their own club, their own community, that really got to her.

Her best friend, Sophy Weston, laughed. She was in a rose gold corset that made her skin glow, a tiny skirt around her hips, and ridiculous heels making her far taller than she actually was. Her gold and brown hair was up in a neat bun this evening, and that was surprising. She mostly wore it down and kept it long. Because it hid some scars she would prefer not to talk about. It told Vivian that Sophy felt comfortable here.

“It is, but don’t tell Oliver,” Sophy replied. “He does not see its flaws. This club is his baby. He went to his dad for a loan, but his father told him he wouldn’t pay for his sex club.”

“That seems a bit hypocritical,” Vivian remarked since Oliver Knight’s father owned his own sex club and had for decades.

Sophy shrugged. “He told his son he’d had to build his own club and that he wouldn’t take the experience from him. Oliver took it as a challenge. He’s got big plans for this place. He claims one day it will be more famous than The Garden. And I’m pretty sure he knows it’s a dump, but I think he would call it a work in progress. Look at you. Here for three days and already causing trouble. Did I mention how happy I am you’re here?”

She and Sophy had grown up together in Dallas, Texas. Sophy had moved to London a year before and Vivian followed her after she finished her master’s degree in psychology. She’d been in London for three days and she’d started her new job at McKay-Taggart and Knight. She’d met the team the day she got in, but the real work started Monday.
Judgement Day doesn’t come with a trumpet, it’s just another sunrise.

Legion Kane put thirty-five bodies in a red dirt pit. Didn’t blink, didn’t flinch, no regrets. But every debt must be collected and the reckoning starts now.
Savannah Ashby doesn’t have regrets either. She gave up everything, but that doesn’t mean she has to settle for less.
Evil doesn’t need a passport. It comes and goes as it pleases. It didn’t cross a border to get to Badlands—it’s been patched in from the start.

Perfect sunrise.
Mirror image.
Revelation.
What a waste.
Get right with God, Demon.
Because the dead are risin’.
BONES AND ASHES

It’s not the heat that makes Hell a punishment.
It’s the cold cruelty of indifference

*************FULL BOOK START HERE*************

CHAPTER 1

The sun is creepin’ up in front of me when the old abandoned gas station comes into view on my right. It's a sliver of deep fiery orange at first, but then there's that moment that happens every mornin' when the creep behind the horizon becomes a burst and the whole sky is suddenly yellow… and pink… and purple… and beautiful.

My head stops buzzin' with rage and what-if's and I close my eyes, goin' stunned and silent inside. Lettin' the color wash over me. Givin' myself this one moment before it all goes to hell.

Because this is the kind of beautiful sunrise you only see once or twice in a lifetime.

Figures.

Long breath out, eyes wide open.

Here we go.

I feel the move to the right before it actually happens. The two bikes in front of me veer towards the gas station. And there they are—six blacked-out SUVs. All parked haphazardly like there's some kind of national emergency happenin' inside.

All eight of us slow to nearly a creep as we enter the parking lot. The filth-covered door to the old station opens and four tall men wearing dark suits and sunglasses step out. They flank the door like it's a military asset, but don't approach as we come to a stop.

I don't know what to do here. There is no plan in my head for what's happenin'. The patrol officer on my right catches my eye, then nods his head towards the door. Which apparently means I'm supposed to go inside.

I sigh. Feeling put out about how this is goin', even though it's more of a best-case scenario than a worst.

I cut the engine, kick the stand, and dismount. Takin' off my helmet, takin' my time, running my fingers through my hair as I stare at the incredible sunrise.

Once or twice in a lifetime.

Then I set my helmet down on the seat and walk toward the door with my hands raised. "Got a knife on my belt," I say. Loud enough for the door-flankers to hear clearly. "That's it. Just one knife."

All four men close in at once. Hands reachin' for me. Movin' over me. Findin' the knife, then lookin' for the lie.

I didn't lie. I don't need to lie.

"That's it," one of 'em says. "He's clean."

The one directly in front of me says, "Go in and sit down. Don't try anything stupid."

I give him a little salute as another one opens the door, and then I walk through.

What awaits me is the inside of a lonely highway gas station that everyone and their mother has walked into at one point on a road trip. Too many windows with too many angles to 'em. All of them so coated with dust and filth, the outside world looks like a fog.

The floor is scattered with aged brochures about Makoshika State Park and the Frontier Gateway Museum, but in the middle of the room is a desk with a man behind it.

I clock him. Mid-thirties. Tall, probably, but hard to tell from a seated position. He's wearin' a brown-grey-yellow flannel that lays a bit tight. Kinda hidin' muscles. Kinda not.

He's got shoulder-length brown hair that's combed back and his beard's got some red in it. He's not lookin' at me, he's lookin' at some papers on the desk in front of him.

"Sit down," he says. Still not lookin’ up.

There's a metal folding chair in front of the desk. I pull it out, turn it around, and straddle it backwards with my arms crossed over the top rail.

Let's do this, I guess.

He lets me sit. Doesn't look up. Just keeps pretendin' like those papers in front of him are far more interestin' than I am.

Which is a lie. Obviously.

I'm the whole reason this meeting exists.

Which means, like it or not, I'm the most interestin' thing in the room.

Which is a fascinatin' piece of truth, if I'm being honest. Because of course, I'm the only reason these people are here.

Now… what they want with me… that's another story. Because this is clearly not an arrest. And his silence is allowin' my mind to do what it does best when I don't have enough information. It spins.
From Zoe Blake, USA Today Bestselling author of Sweet Cruelty (Best of Booktok) and one of the original voices in dark mafia romance, who's been writing dangerously obsessive love stories for over a decade.

He didn't come to Paris to fall for her. He came to claim her.

She was never supposed to matter.

She was supposed to break.

Sabrina Badalamenti was a means to an end, the unknown daughter of the man threatening to destroy everything Sebastian Diamanti had spent his life building.

Finding her was easy. Bringing her to Rome would be easier.

Keeping his hands off her—that was the complication no one warned him about.

Sebastian is the ruthless heir to the Diamanti empire—a dynasty built on diamonds and ruled by blood.

He is everything his family forged him to be: cold, brilliant, and flawless in his cruelty.

He has a strategy, a vendetta, and a bride already chosen.

All he needs is her compliance.

Sabrina has other ideas.

She's spent her whole life running from a father she's never met, shaped by a mother's warnings about men exactly like him.

She came to Paris to build something of her own.

She didn't come to be claimed by a man who doesn't ask. He takes.

But Sebastian Diamanti doesn't deal in choices.

He deals in possession.

And once something is his, he doesn't let it go.

The harder she fights him, the more certain he becomes: she was always meant to be his.

Even if she never forgives him.

Brutal Heir is a full-length dark mafia romance featuring enemies to lovers, forced proximity, an obsessive morally gray billionaire, family vengeance, and a possessive hero who doesn't believe in letting go

*************FULL BOOK START HERE*************

CHAPTER 1

SEBASTIAN

The surveillance photos hadn’t done her justice.

In the bitter chill of late October, the wind tore through the piazza, whipping her black hair across her face.

I curled my hand. I could already feel those strands wrapped around my fist.

She was ignorant of the blood-soaked empires her father and I ruled from the shadows, and of the silent war between our families.

Well, if her father wanted to play dirty—wanted to steal the House of Diamanti, my family’s dynasty, out from under me—then so be it.

I’d take his daughter.

From the warm comfort of my Mercedes S-Class's heated leather seats, I watched her undetected.

Sabrina Dolce Badalamenti.

A pretty little pawn in my vengeful game.

The photos hadn’t captured the subtle tilt of her chin, the way her lip caught between her teeth when she was nervous.

She turned in a slow circle, scanning the street signs with visible confusion, then swiped her hand over her hip—reaching for a phone that wasn’t there.

So. She was alone.

In an unfamiliar city.

Lost.

No phone.

I shook my head. She was making this too easy.

Her slight frame shivered in the cold.

Where the fuck is her coat?

Rain had drenched Paris for days.

She should’ve bundled up.

Someone should take her in hand.

I rolled down the rain-speckled window. The tinted glass blurred her figure, keeping her just out of reach.

The sharp tang of car exhaust and the muddy stench of the nearby Seine filtered in.

She continued scanning her surroundings, bewildered.

Her innocence struck me. It didn’t matter that she was twenty-four—she looked untouched by the world.

Vulnerable.

The perfect prey.

Her mother had tried to protect her.

Sheltered her, hoarded her away from danger.

But in doing so, she’d only turned Sabrina into the ultimate prize.

Men like me didn’t share our toys.

We liked them shiny and new.

Virginal.

My brother Rafaello broke into my thoughts. “Are you really going through with this?”

I leaned back and pressed a button to raise the privacy screen between us and the driver. “Do you have a better plan to save the House of Diamanti?”

I raked a hand through my hair.

What the fuck did he expect me to do?

I’d wanted to kill the judge and be done with it.

Rafaello was the one who insisted the bastard was too high profile, that his murder would draw too much heat.

He was the one who told me to show restraint.

Well, this was me being restrained.

Forcing the judge’s daughter under my control—and into my bed—was mercy compared to what I wanted to do.

She should be grateful I was giving her the illusion of a choice.

Rafaello rubbed his jaw. “I admit we’re fucked right now,” he muttered, nodding toward Sabrina. “But she’s not involved in this. She’s innocent. You’re going to ruin her life just because—”

“We all bear the burden of our family’s treachery,” I interrupted. “She’s no different.”

“Fine. Forget her. What about you? You really want to burn down your own life over this?”

I flicked a piece of lint off my cashmere overcoat. “Saving the Diamanti legacy isn’t burning it down. It’s preserving it.”

“At what cost?”

I laid a hand on his shoulder. “Your concern is touching, little brother. But my mind’s made up.”

I returned my gaze to her.

For the briefest moment, she seemed to look right at me.

My pulse kicked up.

Could she sense it? The danger circling her?
Where the water runs deep and the danger runs deeper, two enemies will risk everything to survive.

Josie McAdams has built her life on rules. As an intelligence specialist for Jameson Force Seattle, she’s made a career out of turning chaos into order and catching the bad guys before they strike. But when a mission on the docks goes wrong and a handsome smuggler saves her life, Josie is forced to face the one rule she’s never dared to break—trusting a criminal.

Having spent years running contraband through Puget Sound’s fog-shrouded channels, Finn Marlowe is no stranger to walking the razor’s edge between outlaw and survivor. When the beautiful woman he pulled from the water approaches him for help dismantling a human-trafficking ring, he’s hard-pressed to turn her away. When he discovers the same network he’s been working for is behind the trafficking, Finn knows he could lose everything by getting involved, but turning a blind eye could cost him even more.

She’s sworn to the law. He lives outside it. But as their uneasy alliance deepens, attraction sparks into something neither can control—and every secret they keep could be the one that gets them killed. When the tides turn and bullets start flying, Josie and Finn discover that sometimes the only safe harbor to hide… is in each other’s arms

*************FULL BOOK START HERE*************

CHAPTER 1

Josie

The air smells of salt and old fish, pretty much the smell of every working waterfront in the Pacific Northwest. I’m thirty yards away, lying flat on my belly in wet pine scrub, photographing a boat that does not belong here.

I’ve got my long lens on, flash off, a microfiber cloth draped over the body so as not to catch a stray beam of light that might come my way.

I’m on an elevated bluff and below me is the dock. It’s a single-vessel slip, about sixty feet of weathered planking running out into the channel. According to the property records, it’s been owned by the same fishing family for ninety years, but the owners are in Arizona for the off-season. The dock has been unattended since they left, and BOB hypothesized that it had a high probability of seeing action. He flagged it late yesterday afternoon and I double-checked the data. The pattern was too clean to be coincidence and too small to be anything else.

Good ol’ BOB. He’s the artificial intelligence system created by brains smarter than me at Jameson Force Seattle and is my main partner within the company. The B-O-B doesn’t stand for anything in particular. It’s more of an easy, affectionate human name. He runs predictive analysis across whatever data points I feed him, and he’s very good at noticing things that I might not.

As the company’s lead intelligence specialist, it was a tough pill to swallow that I simply couldn’t be the smartest, but now we’re good friends. I implicitly trusted him when he told me this desolate fishing dock near Anacortes on Fidalgo Island might be a prime spot for human traffickers to off-load women smuggled in from Canada.

The FBI brought Jameson onto this case six weeks ago. They’ve been working a maritime trafficking pipeline for the better part of a year. The women—mostly Eastern European and Southeast Asian—are brought into Canada and then moved through Vancouver into the Salish Sea. From there, it’s easy enough to avoid the maritime authorities and off-load them at any number of abandoned docks like this one, where they’ll be distributed into the American economy.

Why would the FBI hire a private security consulting firm?

Mainly because we have bigger and better toys, the least of which is BOB.

I put my eye back up to the camera and snap off a flurry of photos—three men in dark jackets with knit caps on their heads for warmth. They’re illuminated by a single light attached to the top of a pole halfway out on the dock, but it’s not good enough for me to identify any distinguishing characteristics. One of them smokes a cigarette, and once in a while, the smell wafts up my way.

Then I hear it… an engine. Out of the black night, a forty-foot boat with a black hull and no running lights appears. The engine cuts and the boat drifts in slowly. Whoever’s at the helm has done this before, but in my research of maritime smuggling, I learned that these are some of the most accomplished boat captains around.

The temperature dropped after sundown and my fingers are stiff from the cold. I want to roll and stretch my back, but I don’t dare move. Surveillance is a discipline of not moving, and I’m very good at it.

The boat reaches the dock and two men come down from the small wheelhouse while one of the men on the dock ties off the bow line. Someone says something, mumbled words I can’t make out, and another man laughs.
He’s the mafia heir, ruthless and cold.
His best friend is loyal to him, but wants me too.
I was promised to one of them… but claimed by both.

New standalone stories by your favorite best-selling steamy romance authors, Hope Ford, Olivia T. Turner, and Michele Mills.

A crown has never been so sinful

*************FULL BOOK START HERE*************

CHAPTER 1

AUDREY

I walk into Bennett Kingston’s office, and I’m trying to keep my cool, but I can feel myself losing it. “Hey! You! We need to talk.”

Bennett Kingston, who is always in control, slowly stands up from his desk and smiles at me as if he doesn’t have a care in the world. “Audrey… it’s good to see you.”

I shake my finger at him. “Nope. None of that. I don’t want to hear any of that Mafia charm—”

His eyebrows lift. “Mafia charm?”

I go to my tiptoes and poke a polished fingernail into his big, brawny chest. “Yes, Mafia charm. And wipe that smug smile off your face. What are you doing?”

He just smiles at me as if he’s enjoying every second of this. The man is sex on legs, and every encounter I’ve had with him, I’ve had to calm my racing thoughts. “Well, I’m working, but I do appreciate the distraction.”

There’s a sound behind me, and I turn to look. Knox, Bennett’s right-hand man, comes walking into the office. He’s smiling too. He’s just as broad as Bennett. They are both insanely handsome, and I try not to react when he crosses his thick arms over his massive chest and leans against the wall. He acts as if he has all the time in the world and is just enjoying the show. I glare at him and then look back at Bennett. “Call off your goons.”

Bennett frowns in confusion. “Goons? What goons?”

I put my hands on my hips. “The goons that you have following me everywhere.”

He doesn’t say anything, and I stomp a foot in frustration. “I’m not kidding, Bennett. I’m already paranoid because my dad is having me tailed, and now you are too.” I put my hand up and hold my thumb and index finger just an inch apart. “I’m this close to just finding a hole, digging in, and staying there.”

I’m too close to him. As soon as I get done with my tirade, I realize it. I’m not sure what it is with Bennett Kingston or his friend Knox, but any time I’m anywhere near them, I go a little nuts. I take a giant step back, and I’m sure if I was on the outside watching, it would be hilarious to see. No, it wasn’t just a tiny step; it was a big, exaggerated one.

And he doesn’t like it.

He frowns and steps toward me. “What do you mean your dad has people tailing you?”

I roll my eyes. “Really?” I point a thumb to my chest. “I know everything there is to know about what my family does, has done, or plans to do, and I left to live in their rival’s territory. Do you think he’s just going to let that go?”

Bennett’s jaw tightens, and even though he doesn’t say a word, I know what he’s thinking. He’s trying to figure out how he’s going to end Victor Sterling. And even though it’s my father, I understand the sentiment. My father is a bad man.

I’m not sure what I was thinking. As if I could leave one of the biggest Mafia families in the South and just live my life? That obviously is not going to happen. If it wasn’t for my brother Grant, I would have moved far away from here, but here I am, standing in Kingston territory begging for a little bit of space.

Bennett looks at Knox. “Can you get John and Tony in here please?”

Knox looks me up and down, and I feel the heat from his gaze all the way across the room. He nods at Bennett. “I’ll be right back.”

I glare back at Bennett. “I don’t know what this game is, but I don’t want to play it. I’ve told you everything about my father and what his plans are. You don’t need to keep tailing me.”

Bennett just stares back at me, and I can feel my face heat. Under different circumstances, I would probably fall for this man. He’s handsome in a way that makes me wet just looking at him. I shift my thighs together and have to look away.

Mere seconds pass, and Knox comes back in with two men trailing behind him. Bennett points to them. “Are these men the ones following you?”

I glare at them. “Yeah, that’s two of them.”

One of them speaks up. “The other two are working for the Sterlings.” He looks at me. “Or I guess I should say working for Victor.”

I close my eyes for two seconds just to get my thoughts together. “Bennett, please, I told you I’d come to you if I have anything else, and I will. I want my father taken down just as much as you do, if not more. My baby brother…” I stop myself because talking about my brother makes me emotional. “Anyway, I will tell you. I promise.”
You have to be cruel to be kind.

Morwenna Richards’s world shatters when she discovers the truth about her husband—and realizes everyone closest to her has been lying for nine years.
She’s done being a fool. Done pretending. And she’s walking away.
Fresh out of prison, Venom is back where he belongs with the Evil Dwellers MC. When he left, Morwenna belonged to the club president’s worthless son. Now she’s nearly free, all soft curves and sweet smiles—and Venom wants her for himself.
He’s also the only man who never lied to her.
Their unlikely friendship quickly becomes something far more dangerous, but Morwenna has learned the hard way not to trust a biker. Especially one as ruthless as Venom.

When a deadly threat closes in, Venom will do whatever it takes to protect the woman he loves—even if he has to be cruel enough to make her hate him.

He’ll keep her safe.

But it might cost him her forever

*************FULL BOOK START HERE*************

Prologue

“Marry me,” Casey Richards asked.

Morwenna looked toward her long-term boyfriend and shook her head. “We can’t do that.”

“We don’t know if you’re pregnant or not, and I don’t want you to think I’m only marrying for the baby.” He pressed a hand to her stomach. “I love you, Wen. Always have, since we were babies. You know this.”

She rubbed at her temple, and the truth was, at sixteen, she was freaking out. Skipped periods were not usually her thing. She never skipped a period. She was regular like clockwork.

“You’re crazy. There is no way we can get married,” Morwenna said.

Casey smiled. “Of course there is. Our parents have no control over what we do or don’t do. We’re the ones in control, and we’ve got to think of our kid.”

“Casey, we don’t even know if we’re pregnant. Not for real.”

“Look, I didn’t want to scare you, okay, because I figured it was our first time, and you shouldn’t be worried, but the condom broke. It was a pretty old condom.”

“It broke?”

“Yeah, it broke, so there is a chance you might be ... you know ... pregnant.”

She felt that panic and fear. “We’re sixteen years old.”

“And we’ve both got our parents. I know it sounds insane, but you and I can do this. We’ve got each other’s backs, Wen. It is how it has always been. You and me against the world. We’ve got this.”

She looked into his eyes and felt a little sick. Her mother had asked her to be patient, to wait to have kids. To have a life of her own before she settled down. But she loved Casey. She had loved him for a lifetime already. She couldn’t imagine her life with anyone else.

Even as she felt a little sick, because she knew their parents were going to freak out, and that was okay, she knew there was no one else she wanted to be with. There was just Casey Richards, the love of her life.

Casey was her everything, and nothing was ever going to change that.

Chapter One

Nine Years Later

Silence—just what Morwenna needed.

Although she couldn’t get the image out of her head. All she wanted to do was drop off Casey’s present, or Bolt, as she now must refer to him. He did all his prospecting, and now he was a respectable member of the club. She couldn’t help but wonder how many people knew he was cheating. Were they laughing at her?

She glanced down at her ring, but the image before her got a little too blurry. She felt sick to her stomach and closed her eyes, even as her phone buzzed. Every now and then, the sounds of birds singing filled the air, and it was beautiful. This is why she came here, to think and be alone. It was the one place no one was ever able to find. Sure, it was near the lake, but this was filled with boulders and rocks, where the chance of death was a hundred percent guaranteed. This way, no stupid kids or teenagers would attempt any daredevil stunts. There was no safe place to land.

She sat on the boulder, her feet dangling in the water. She found this place many years ago, when she needed to think.

Nine years ago, after she had sex with her longtime friend and boyfriend, she thought she was pregnant. She had never said anything, but Casey had promised he wore a condom. Then he told her the condom had broken. She’d been freaking out thinking she was pregnant at sixteen. Casey offered to marry her, and even though their parents were nervous for them, they didn’t stop them. They had a proper church wedding. Her own father, who was a former soldier, asked if she wanted to run away. Every single time, she told everyone she loved Casey and wanted to get married.

She squeezed her eyes closed because her husband cheating on her just didn’t seem to ... it wasn’t something she could even grasp right now. Yet, she’d seen him with Star, one of the most notorious club women. She overheard Star bragging about all the men she had been with. She was also talking about getting a tattoo so she could celebrate being with nearly the full house.
They survived the shipwreck.
Now they have to survive each other.
Stranded on a remote island, the ballet dancers and fighters are still trapped together, still fighting for their lives—but nature is no longer their greatest threat.
It's each other.
Secrets, lies, and betrayal begin to unravel everything they've fought to hold together. As danger closes in from beyond the shoreline, they have no choice but to stand side by side. But with every truth exposed and every loyalty tested, forgiveness becomes harder to find.
So many lies.
So many secrets.
Everything is coming apart at the seams.
Yet they still need each other.
To survive.
To get home.
In a world where loyalty is earned in blood and love comes at a deadly price, one thing is certain...
Not everyone will make it off the island alive

*************FULL BOOK START HERE*************

PROLOGUE

BONE-CHILLING.

That’s the only word to describe the cold rain that continues to fall, day after day, as if a cloud has formed atop us and refuses to leave. It is almost as if the whole world is against us, and the universe is trying to see just how much we can handle.

Aggie said we have been here for forty-two days.

Forty-two.

A fucking nightmare, if you ask me.

Somehow in that time, we have lost someone, nearly lost another, and a truth has been uncovered that has driven a wedge between us all. Nobody is safe—not from the secrets, or the lies, or the damn horror that we continue waking up to daily.

At night, I lie awake, counting the drops that fall from the leaf fronds above, each one a stark reminder that we are still here, still breathing, even when it hurts. The world smells of wet ash from the fire we continue to try and light, and when the wind cuts in our direction, it’s sharp enough to make your bones ache.

Cold was never something I worried about. I spent years in the world’s most expensive schools, ferrying between home and practice in cars that ran constant heat. Now, forty-two days in, I dream about that warmth, I ache for the sun on my skin. The constant rain has made all the timber wet, and even though we stashed some away, it is dwindling.

The guys set up camp a few hundred metres away from us. They tried, of course they did. Ace wanted to fix it, to make it better, but the betrayal cut deep. So fucking deep I still won’t have a conversation with him, but when I do, it’s simple answers. Aggie and Tati spend their time back and forth, trying to mend what’s broken.

Rachel tells us she refuses any involvement and just wants to survive.

I agree with her.

So, most days we spend searching for ways to survive. Hunting for fruit and animals, scraping at mussels on the sharpest rocks, foraging for anything that won’t kill us. Every week, our food supply gets smaller. The fish don’t seem to like the rain, and catching them has become increasingly difficult. Occasionally, we find a crab and fight over it like wild animals, but mostly, it’s just air and water and whatever the island decides to give us.

As if it is in charge of us living or dying.

Hell, maybe it is.

Adrian is the worst off, and his spark slowly dwindles. The wound doesn’t heal the way it should, and he’s in pain more often than not. We do our best, cleaning it obsessively, but there’s only so much you can do with salt water and hope. He spends hours awake, staring at the horizon, sometimes muttering. At night, he cries out in pain, and we hear it, all of us, but none of us move to help.

What can we do? At first, he tried to hide it. Now, he doesn’t bother.

The pain brings out a kind of honesty in him. Sometimes I wish it would do the same for me. But I wake, I eat, I sleep, and I pretend that every day isn’t a new kind of loss. There is something about this island that finds the cracks in you and works a stick into them, prying and prying until you’re nothing but splinters.

The other night, the wind was so bad it nearly took the shelter apart piece by piece. The palm fronds we’d layered for insulation ripped off, and the next morning we had to start all over, hands numb and faces stung raw. It would’ve been easier to give up, honestly. But we have no choice, we have to keep fighting.

I try not to think about my father. The man who paid to have me delivered to a fate so dark I still can’t bear to think about it. If Dad stood here now, cold and blue-lipped, I think I’d forgive him. Not because he deserves it, but because I am so, so tired of the ache in my chest.

I just want it all to be over.

Did you enjoy Aces Underground? Follow the road of yellow brick to Jade Sanctum…

There’s no place like home.
But Thea Storm may never make it back.
A mysterious dating app leads the Chicago meteorologist to the Jade Sanctum, a decadent club owned by Austin “Aus” Waverly, a dangerously charming man with secrets of his own.
By morning, a bartender is dead, and Thea is the prime suspect.
Aus knows she’s being framed. What he doesn’t know is why someone chose her, why the trail keeps leading back to the Jade Sanctum’s bloody past, or who is pulling the strings from behind the curtain.
As desire burns between them, Thea and Aus are dragged deeper into a twisted game built on lies, murder, and a sin Aus never wants revealed.

Someone sent Thea down the yellow brick road.
And Aus may be the only man who can keep her alive.

*************FULL BOOK START HERE*************

PROLOGUE

AUS

“You’ve got this, Aus. All you need is a little courage,” Leo says.

“But use your brain,” Scarlet reminds me. “Don’t rush into anything.”

I hold back a scoff. These two of all people telling me to trust my head and guts is pretty damned laughable. Leo has been all nerves since I met him, and Scarlet, God love her, wasn’t exactly blessed with common sense.

If Tim were here, he’d offer some other miserable platitude. Tell me to follow my heart or some shit.

Another darkly funny thought, considering he lost his. In more ways to one. First to a woman who scorned him, cost him everything he owned. And then again—this time, it was literally removed from his chest—to the human embodiment of evil herself.

Rouge Montrose, my boss before her all-too-timely demise.

But all the brains, heart, and courage in the world can’t help me now.

Things are pretty fucking hopeless, truth be told. The love of my life is being held in jail on a bail I can’t afford awaiting a kangaroo-court trial for murder. The club is in terrible financial shape.

And the bodies keep piling up.

Three people are dead so far, and I can’t shake the feeling that numbers four, five, and six are sitting in this sub-basement right now.

We can turn back. It might be a good idea. This shit is way bigger than I ever anticipated. The Montrose legacy, for all our efforts, has persisted in ways I had no way of predicting.

Everything she told me was right. Everything she said came true.

We descended into the bowels of the Jade Sanctum, past the casks of whiskey and vodka, around the tanks where we brew our craft beer, and through the barrels where we age and ferment our fine wines. And right here, hidden under a tiny rug under a tiny table decorated with a tiny vase holding a tiny bouquet of poppies, is our mark. A small trapdoor, big enough for one man to climb inside.

What’s under the trapdoor? I have no fucking clue.

But it can’t be anything good.

I have a feeling this is going to blow Rouge Montrose’s organ harvesting operation out of the damned water.

And here I am, flanked by two of my waitstaff, when I should have brought the National fucking Guard with me.

Scarlet is right. I shouldn’t rush into this.

I need reinforcements.

But who can I call? The cops are out. They’re in the pocket of Rouge’s protégée.

I don’t even know who I can trust anymore.

I can trust Scarlet and Leo.

I can trust the woman I love, even though she’s not here to help me.

I put my trust in my bar staff, and that was a big fucking mistake.

Three people, all my employees, are dead. Four if you count Tim.

More will follow if we don’t put an end to this.

But I can’t do it alone. I need help.

Only one other person has my complete and total trust.

Bianca Montrose. My former boss’s younger sister who led the effort to topple the tyrant who, even in death, casts a long shadow.

And I have no doubt this is Rouge’s doing. It has her perfumed stink all over it.

Bianca might have some insight. It was just under a year ago that she and her boyfriend first uncovered Rouge’s horrific activities. Anyone she trusts, I trust. She might be able to get me some reinforcements that will help us tackle whatever lies in wait behind this trapdoor.

I look up at Scarlet and Leo. “I need to make a quick phone call.”

Leo lifts an eyebrow. “Do you even have service down here?”

I check my phone. “One bar. That’s enough to get a call through.”

“Are you sure?” Scarlet asks. “Is there anyone we can even trust anymore?”

“Bianca Montrose took down her own sister over this. If we can’t trust her, we’re fucked.” I dial the number. It rings once, twice, three times…

“Hello?”

I let out a sigh of relief. “Bianca, thank God you answered.”

“Aus, is everything okay?”

I pause. “Not really.”

She doesn’t respond immediately. Her speech sounds a little slurred, like she’s been drinking.
