“We were supposed to meet up again, but she got sick, so I don’t know when that’ll be.”

“Told you,” I spit out.

“What?”

“All that fuss to prove me wrong, and you only proved me right. You didn’t just hook up with a girl and leave it at that. You got your little Lance feelings all over it, and now you’re gonna date her, aren’t you? You know it’s cool if that’s your thing. You didn’t have to try and prove anything to me.”

Why do I sound so worked up over this? And why is my heart racing? Feels like I’m pissed at him, but I don’t really have a right to be. It’s like there’s something twisted in my brain that thinks because I came on the guy once, that somehow he’s mine and shouldn’t be messing around with anyone. Which is wild because I’ve never had that feeling about anyone I’ve messed around with except him—

No, wait. What we did wasn’t messing around.

Fuck.

This must just be leftover jitters from that asshole at work upsetting me earlier.

Lance eyes me strangely, as though he can read these wild thoughts, which I know isn’t what’s happening. “Well, maybe you were right about that,” he finally says. “I was trying to get you back for the prank and winning the TaskFrat. And I guess it worked because it got on your nerves, didn’t it?”

He has no idea, and I don’t really either, considering this is a weird thing to be thinking about my Alpha Theta Mu rival.

“Sorry you had a shitty day at work,” he says, again catching me by surprise.

I appreciate that even though the number one person I would have wanted to talk to isn’t around anymore, at least I had someone who could hear me out.

“Thanks, man,” I say, probably the most sincere thing I’ve ever said to Lance Fehn, which makes me feel strange, so I groan. “Anyway, I’m done harassing you for now. Gonna find a spot and actually knock some of this shit out. Good luck with your work. And hope you have a fun date with Agatha.”

I’m already walking away when he calls out, “Angie.”

“Yeah, whatever,” I say, trying to act like I care less than I do.

“It’s wild going to an Omega Psi TaskFrat Challenge fully clothed,” Marty says on our way over, my crew leading the way. The streetlights illuminate the block, which is crowded with Peach State students in spirit wear, heading to the host house for the challenge.

“Let’s not assume we’ll be in these clothes by the end of the night,” I remark, since I know this frat well enough to be suspicious.

“Remember last year, they had us in BDSM outfits,” Payton mentions.

“I didn’t forget,” Marty says.

Payton smiles. “I thought you looked good in your harness.”

“And no compliment on my ass at the last event?” I ask. “That hurts my feelings.”

“Wow, Payt,” Ash says. “I don’t think you complimented any of us on our asses. You ain’t safe.”

Payton rolls his eyes. “I was busy trying to keep that damn string from riding up my ass, thank you very much. And we already know who had the sexiest ass, at least according to the comments on that Phi Lambda girl’s vid on socials.”

My cheeks warm because damn right it was me, but mainly because of the particular angle she shot me from, which proudly displayed my assets.

“Not doing those squats for nothing,” I say as we reach the Omega Psi house.

As I survey the crowd gathered on the front lawn, I catch myself looking for the Sigma Alphas. I’ve seen Ty around since our run-in at the library, but just in passing.

In all the time we’ve known each other, he’s never stopped to chat with me like that. Although, we only stop and talk for the digs and to remind each other we’re gonna kick the other’s ass in TaskFrat. Normal amount of interaction for frat rivals, I’d say.

“Angie planning to be here tonight?” Ash asks.

“Yeah, she’s feeling better and caught up on work, so she told me she’d swing by.”

It makes me reflect on how Ty kept bringing her up—how jealous he must’ve been that I got with a hot girl like her. I could have told him there was nothing going on between us, but he was being such a dick, and when he pretty much assumed we were getting together, I didn’t bother to correct or clarify. Besides, it’s really none of his business.

“Hey, guys,” I hear, and turn to see one of Sigma Alpha’s own approaching—Dax.

He’s the Sigma Alpha who hangs around our frat most. Honestly, though, I’d be surprised if there’s a frat Dax doesn’t hang out with because not only is he cool as hell, he’s also made lots of friends with benefits since he transferred to Peach State last year.
