As I held the letter in my hands, reading it out loud to Jax, I felt myself tearing up.

“Jenni is going to make me cry,” I protested, clutching at my heart. “I remember meeting her. This was at the wrap party fan event at the end of season one, in downtown.”

“This is absolutely beautiful,” Jax said, looking over the collage. “I still can’t believe we mean this much to anyone.”

One of the photos that my eyes landed on in the collage was an old one, from the show’s Instagram page. It was a picture of me and Jax, smiling with apple drinks in our hands. Jax was wearing his cream-colored sweater in the photo, and both of us looked so much younger, to me, even though it was a little over a year ago.

“Look at us,” I murmured.

“We were so dumb back then,” Jax said.

I dropped my jaw. “Rude,” I joked. “We were just naive, and scared, and totally trying to ignore the fact that we were wildly into each other.”

“Right,” he said with a wicked grin. “We were dumb.”

I laughed. “Fine. But God, I love that picture of us. We’ve come a long way, baby.”

“And we’ve come, many, many times. Speaking of which, I’m getting you off tonight. It’s been too long.”

“Only you could think two days is too long,” I said. “And that’s reason number one million why I love you.”

After cleaning up dinner, Jax dragged me to the bed faster than ever. But as we lay there in the dark afterward, cuddled up and cozy with two crazed cats jumping across the bed, all I could think about was how far we’d both come in the past year.

I kept thinking about that old picture, from the fall festival.

And how fucking glad I was that I’d taken a risk with Jax.

Nothing could have prepared me for the fact that I’d find the love of my life in the last place I thought to look—right across the bar at my favorite place. I never thought I’d be with someone younger than me. Or a frat guy, for God’s sake. And when I was being honest, I was pretty sure there was some part of me that never thought I’d find anyone who truly loved me.

I’d never been so happy to be wrong, before.

Right before we fell asleep, I reached over and laced my fingers through his, holding his hand.

I knew, soon enough, that I was going to feel a ring on his finger when I held his hand. I already knew exactly which one I wanted to get him, and I knew I was going to propose on the little bridge on Spruce Street, right at the center of Jade River.

The place where I’d first had an inkling of how special Jax was to me. A place that would always belong to us, in my heart.

I’d finally found my person. And I was damn well ready to spend the rest of my life with him.
