Her eyes were wide as saucers now. “Is there more?”

“Those are only the tame ones,” I admitted. “There are so many more. And remember, I only ‘dated’ her for a month and a half. We had sex once. Right at the end. But when she told me that she wanted me to double penetrate her in the ass with her dildo and my dick, and she wanted me to choke her out while I did, while videotaping it so she could reminisce later, I had to head out. I’m all for rough sex, but that was just the final red flag with her.”

Banger’s eyes stayed wide as she shook her head. “I’ve had my share of bad boyfriends, but I’ve never had a one that was crazy.”

“Count yourself lucky,” I grumbled. “She seemed so normal at first, too. She’s a cop. She knows the score with the job. What all it entails. What does and doesn’t get to happen in regards to my off time… yeah. So fuckin’ normal. I mean, she ordered a damn grilled cheese on our first date. Then as we were walking to her car after the meal, she told me she likes to do impact play.”

Banger burst out laughing. “I do have a funny date story in regards to first dates.”

Before she could tell me the story, the doorbell rang downstairs, letting us know that Rook had finally arrived.

“I’ll just go get that.”

And before I could say a word, she was gone.

CHAPTER 6

Tomorrow is not promised. Be a ho today.

BANGER

I’d almost told him my most horrific date story.

That would’ve been godawful.

Jesus, there was just something about Easton McKennick that really made my lips loose.

And not even the ones on my face.

The ones on my lower half were all but begging for him, too.

Which sounded disgusting, but that was where I was at this point in my life.

“Holy crap,” Rook, better known as ‘Tide’ to me, said. “This place is fancy.”

“Make it fancy,” I quoted, making a little zing in the air with my finger.

Rook blinked at me. “What was that?”

“Oh.” I blushed lightly. “That would be me quoting one of my favorite YouTubers. She does this show called ‘Make It Fancy’ where she uses regular, everyday ingredients, then makes it fancy. Kind of like the guy gives her regular ramen, and then she makes it into this fantabulous ramen.”

Rook blinked. “I think that’s the most words I’ve ever heard you say.”

I shrugged. “Sometimes, I don’t like saying things when I don’t have a vested interest in what that other person is saying.”

He snorted. “So you’re saying that we’re boring?”

“I’m saying that I find shit excessive when all I do is hear the other side of peoples’ conversations all day. When I don’t say anything at all, they don’t expect me to talk. And ninety percent of the time, that’s about where I’m at in my mood. Not wanting to talk. Plus, to make a good bartender, you have to listen, not talk.”

“True,” he agreed.

I waved him inside, and he continued to look a bit shell-shocked at the room.

“I’ve never been out here before,” he admitted. “It’s so freakin’ far.”

I agreed.

I’d realized today as I’d considered going back into town to shop for lunch and dinner items that it wasn’t worth the trip into town if I didn’t get enough for at least the entire week. It also made me happy to know that I could work from home and wouldn’t have to go anywhere at all if I didn’t want to, seeing as it was well over a forty-minute drive just to get into the nearest town, which was Intercourse.

“Agreed,” I said as I jerked my chin at him. “Come on, I left him in his bathroom rinsing off.”

Rook followed behind me, close enough to feel him at my back, and I felt my neck start to itch at his close proximity.

I loved having a bar between me and other people. It was three good feet of separation that always had me with my front facing forward and no one at my back.

Ever since I’d tried and almost failed getting away from the man who’d played me so well, making me think that I was special when I wasn’t, I’d had a problem with people getting too close.

I just didn’t know who to trust.

It was easier to only trust myself.

And, I was quickly realizing, it took someone truly special to get in there with me. To allow that close.

Let’s just say that, though I knew Rook to be a good guy… that didn’t mean I trusted him at my back.

Now the man stubbornly standing beside his bedroom door, staring at us expectantly, with a brand-new pair of sweatpants on that were practically made to torture me?

Well, him I was beginning to realize I could trust.

And that scared the shit out of me.
