Okay, maybe the bikini wasn’t a great idea, but it was the only swimsuit I could find. When I’d moved into Frank’s place, most of my belongings were in suitcases and duffle bags in the small storage unit in the apartment building’s basement. I’d been lucky I’d found this suit and a few other summer clothes.

“What happened to studying?” I called when I neared. It’s not like I thought they were supposed to study all the time, but I wanted to break the slightly awkward silence that had grown between us.

“Oh, we’re studying things all right,” Justin said, his gaze still on me.

Dominic, who’d just emerged from the depths of the pool, used both hands to send a wave of water at his old friend. Justin’s innertube wobbled, but he didn’t fall out. He seemed to be wedged in there too tightly.

I blushed as I walked over to the shallow end of the pool. “Can I swim?”

“I hope so,” Tye said. “We’re ball players, not lifeguards.”

It was tempting to put my foot in the pool and kick some water at him, but I didn’t want to risk falling in as Dominic just had.

Dominic hoisted himself out of the pool while I kicked off my sandals and removed my coverup.

“Here,” he said, appearing at my side. He was holding a large white towel.

“Thanks.” I set it on the chair along with my phone and coverup.

“Seriously, can you swim?” he asked in a low voice.

“Of course.”

“Like swim well?”

“Pretty well. Why?”

He grinned. “I’ve got an idea.” He whispered it in my ear.

A minute later, we were over on the opposite side of the pool. Tye was floating in the deep end, and he looked almost asleep. Justin was in the middle of the pool looking like he was having problems escaping his innertube.

“Ready?” Dominic whispered.

“Ready.” I took his hand.

After a silent count of three, we raced toward the pool, directly at Tye who looked up in alarm.

We hit the edge of the pool and jumped. I lifted my knees as we soared right over Tye.

We landed in the middle of the pool, still holding hands, going deep underwater. My feet actually touched the bottom before I pushed up toward the surface.

Dominic let go of my hand as we treaded water, looking at the carnage around us. We’d made such a strong wave that Tye’s raft had been toppled, and he was in the water, too, glaring at us.

Tye’s innertube had shot to the shallow end, and he was wedged on one of the steps, looking like a turtle that couldn’t get turned over.

I couldn’t stop laughing, and neither could Dominic. It was worth it for that reason alone. He needed some cheering up. But it was also fun to see the steam coming out of Tye’s ears and Justin all off balance.

Speaking of off balance, I swam over to the side of the pool—the side opposite Tye—and discretely checked to make sure my bikini was still covering what it was supposed to be. All seemed well except for a massive wedgie, which I quickly corrected. Perhaps a bikini wasn’t the best thing to wear when horsing around like that.

Justin finally extracted himself, and he swam toward me, possibly seeking revenge. I put my hands up in surrender before realizing that I needed them to keep afloat.

Justin winked. “I’m not here for revenge, but only because of two mitigating factors.”

I laughed. “You sound like a lawyer.”

“Hopefully someday,” he said. “Factor one, you guys got Tye worse than me.”

“And factor two?”

“You look really hot in that bikini.”

His words and the admiration in his eyes made my cheeks redden. I didn’t know what to say, so I just shook my head.

“Don’t believe me? Okay, I’ll just ask the other two to see if they agree.”

He started to swim away, but I grabbed onto his huge bicep. He paused, treading water with just his powerful legs and keeping us both afloat. “All right, I won’t ask them, but I know I’m right.” He gave me a sexy smirk. “So tell me, how did you go from those Little House on the Prairie clothes this morning to this sinfully skimpy bikini?”

My face flushed, but I had to laugh. “Are you a big fan of Little House?”

He nodded. “It was my mom’s favorite show. I always thought Miss Beadle was kind of hot.”

“Which one was she?”

“The prim and proper schoolteacher with the curly blonde hair.” He swam toward the other end of the pool, pulling me with him. He stopped when it was shallow enough for him to stand. I still couldn’t, though. Justin leaned down and whispered, “I thought you were prim and proper until I saw you wearing that just now.”

I shrugged, putting my feet on his thick thigh and pushing off, propelling myself toward shallower water so that I could stand, too. “I am sometimes,” I called over my shoulder.
