Everything happened so quickly for me. I fully expected to end up in a ditch somewhere or in porn, but thankfully that never happened. I got off the bus and found an agent right away. I was going on auditions within three days, and it paid off. My first role on a TV show got me enough money to get a furnished apartment for six months. I worked as a waitress in a diner mostly for free food and tips. For the first time in my life, I didn’t have to worry everything I owed would be stolen. For the first time in years, I didn’t have to duct tape a Ziplock bag with my ID and money in it to my belly. Man, it took a long time for my skin to go back to normal where I placed the tape.

Then I was cast in a huge summer blockbuster in the leading role. I made more money than I had ever even heard of. I was nominated for awards and even won some. I haven’t had more than two days off in a row and I love how busy I am now. I never think about the parents that gave me up and I never have to worry about going hungry again. Through it all, I’ve been so blessed. It allowed me the opportunity to get tickets to the big game though they’ve been sold out for ages.

Life is finally tolerable. Hudson squeezes my hand reassuringly as the plane levels out in the air. I look down to where are hands are joined on the arm rest. I’m shocked I am still letting him touch me. I hate to sound like a diva, but I really don’t like to be touched unless I have to be. It just makes me uncomfortable. I don’t remember when that started, but I imagine that once I got to the group home, the only touches I received were bad. Getting my ass beat day in and day out makes you leery, but for some reason, I don’t hate his touch. I find myself not wanting him to let me go.

“Um… maybe I will stay with you,” I say trying to sound nonchalantly.

“Yeah?” he asks.

“Yeah. Thank you for offering.” I know it’s crazy to go home with a stranger, but don’t people do it every day? Or night? I don’t know but I do know one-night stands are a thing.

“It’s not a problem. My place is pretty big. We don’t have to see each other if you don’t want to.”

“What if I want to?” I ask, being bold. I made sure to only take roles where I was the best friend or an action movie so that my touching was limited and never intimate. This is the first time I’ll be the lead in a romantic movie. It’s okay though. I got this.

“Damn, babe. You’re killing me. Those pouty lips and those big blue eyes. Not to mention your soft skin. You’re going to be the death of me.

“I don’t want you to die,” I say leaning closer to him. I’m drawn to him as if we’re magnets. Our lips touch and when I moan, he deepens the kiss. I drop his hand and simultaneously, our hands search the others body for a comfortable place. Even seated, he knows just what to do as he takes me higher and higher. “Wow,” I whisper when his lips leave mine.

“Fuck, babe. That was so hot.”

“Yeah,” I agree, still a little dazed. I’ve never felt so good. So alive. So right.

“Mark my words, Mary. One day you’ll be mine.”

“I think… I think that day has come,” I say.

“Damn it,” he growls before he kisses me again. I lose track of how long we stay like that. We only stop when the flight attendant offers us champagne, which we take. The screen on the back of the seat in front me says we still have three hours flight time to Charlotte. We spend that time getting to know each other and drinking champagne. I’m afraid it’s gone to my head, but I realize that it’s him. I love hearing about his life.

“Good evening, this is Captain Dan. We’ll be arriving in Charlotte in twenty-two minutes. The local weather is clear and thirty-four degrees.”

I’ve been staring at his face for hours now. I smile when he grins at me. In this moment, I know that I am going to give myself to this man, which isn’t something I’ve ever wanted to do before, but strangely, it feels right with him.

“You’re an amazing woman, Mary. You know that don’t you?”

“I do now,” I say, kissing him again.

We land and grab our bags. He says a few words to his teammates, and we are off to the parking garage. He leads me to a huge black pickup truck. It’s so high off of the ground, he has to lift me into the passenger seat after putting our bags in the backseat. His hands lingered on me, and I think he wants me too.
