Shock fuels my tone. “A hard time understanding you want nothing more from them than a good time?”

My cock stiffens when she spits out, “I want to come, Caleb. You don’t need to sugarcoat it.” For the first time tonight, she uses her blinkers to indicate she is turning. “I just wish society wouldn’t make out that women are harlots for wanting that. Why do we have to be married to climax?” When my lips move in preparation to speak, she squashes her finger on them. “If you mention one thing about the Bible or church, I will castrate you.”

“They were the furthest thing from my mind.” Since that is straight-up honest, it sounds that way. “I’m just confused as to why you haven’t found anyone willing to satisfy your needs yet.”

Her hand drops from my mouth with a quiver before she returns it to the steering wheel. “I have some minor stipulations.”

She glares at me through squinted eyelids when I ask with a chuckle, “Like a white dress and matrimony?”

I can barely hear her when I have to cough my stomach back down my throat from her whacking me in the gut, but I get the gist of her terms. “I don’t want to seem easy, so I made some amendments to the standard friends-with-benefits scheme.”

Her logic is the reason I’m so eager to unearth her terms. Despite what some women believe, not every man sets out to unlock manwhore status by the time they turn thirty. There isn’t a ladder we must climb to claim ultimate masculinity, but like Jess, I have needs too.

Needs not many women are willing to entertain without three-date rules and the hope of wedded bliss. But if I’m reading Jess’s prompts right, that won’t be an issue with her. I won’t have to tiptoe around feelings, unrealistic anticipations, and all those other emotions I’m closed off to.

I can just be myself, which I haven’t been in an extremely long time.

“What are your terms, Jess?” I sound way too eager. Rightfully so. I am.

Jess pulls into the dark lot at the back of our apartment building, unlatches her belt, then swivels in her seat to face me front on.

I mirror her stance. My bladder can wait. My curiosity cannot.

My assumptions ring true when she murmurs, “No pet names. Baby. Honey. Princess.” She gags to get across her point. “I hate them.”

“But Jessie is okay?”

She swallows before bobbing her head. “Jessie is fine since it isn’t technically a pet name.”

I talk to hide my smile. “And the rest of your terms?”

She ticks off her items on her fingers. “No overnight stays—”

“Duh. That should be rule number one.”

She continues talking as if I never interrupted her, “No showering together. That’s too intimate.”

I could kiss her. Truly I could. For a man with a bathroom phobia, it is as if she wrote the rule book for me.

Dark strands of hair fall into Jess’s hazel eyes when she nods in agreement when I say, “It’s also meant to be the place you get clean, not dirty.”

“And three…” This must be the term that loses all the suitors because her cheeks aren’t just white, so are her fingers from how rigidly she’s twisted her shirt around her fingers. “Our meet-ups can only be on special occasions.”

“Huh?” That came out before I could stop it. It can’t be helped. How do fuck buddies have special occasions?

“Arrgghhh,” Jess pushes out with a groan. “See. You’re all the same.” She throws her hands into the air before hiding her face beneath them.

I pull her hands down from her face. “I’m not saying no.” That pulls her ego out of the trench. “I’m just confused. Aren’t special occasions anniversaries and birthdays? That gives you three fucks a year. I don’t see that being enough, even if you climax multiple times. That’s less sex than a married couple, and we know what you think about them.”

There’s the smile I’m dying to see.

“There are plenty of special occasions, Caleb.”

“Such as?”

Once again, stop looking at me like that. I have needs. Needs Jess can fill, and since it isn’t about love, I won’t be breaking the pledge I made not to be happy before Octavia.

My cock thickens more with every occasion Jess ticks off. “Christmas. Thanksgiving. Easter. Valentine’s Day. Hannukah—”

“You’re Jewish?”

My hopes get squashed when she shakes her head. “But if it gets me laid, I can pretend.”

I laugh so hard, there’s no pretending my bladder isn’t on the cusp of bursting.

I want to discuss her requirements further. I should discuss her requirements better, but since I’m on the verge of peeing my pants like a preschooler, I thrust out my hand and say, “My name is Caleb, and I’d like to apply for the position of Jess’s special-occasions-only fuck buddy.”

Her smile lights up the interior of her car. “Hi, Caleb, I’m Jessie, but unfortunately, I only take applications in person and with at least a dozen greasy burgers handed over in offering.”
