Spec nodded. “Do it, brother.” He stepped out of the way.

Jinx released his grip on the guy’s hair, and his head immediately flopped forward. If it weren’t for a grunt of pain, he’d have wondered if the guy passed out. Taking his sweet time to build the anticipation, he circled the chair and stopped directly in front of their captive. Then, without a dramatic windup, he rammed a brutal uppercut into the man’s face.

His head snapped back, then drooped forward, and a long string of blood dropped from his mouth to the floor.

Yes, that sharp ache in his knuckles felt good. He couldn’t deny picturing this guy as the one to have landed Harper in prison. But if he ever got his hands on that piece of shit, he wouldn’t stop at one punch. “Problem solved. He’s covered now.”

Spec’s grin bordered on evil. “Thanks for the assist.”

“He tell you what you wanted to know?”

“He’s about to. Ain’t that right?” Spec walked closer to the chair.

The guy flinched, making both Jinx and Spec laugh. Curly remained by the door in quiet support as their leader.

“All right. Now that we’re warmed up, you wanna reconsider your answer?”

The guy groaned.

“I’ll take that as a yes,” Spec said. “Where the fuck is Lobo hiding out?”

The slurred response was barely audible.

“What’s that?” Spec cupped his ear. “Can’t hear you?”

Jinx jerked the guy’s head back again. “Answer the man.”

“I don’t know.”

With a snort, Spec shook his head. “This again? Need another round of memory jostling?”

“N-no. No.”

“Then tell me what I want to fucking know,” Spec screamed the words in the guy’s face. He jumped so hard Jinx had to shove him down to keep him from overturning the chair.

“I’m telling the truth.” He tried to yell, but it barely came out above a whisper. “I don’t fucking know.”

“So tell me something you do know. Why were you following my woman?”

He stared at Spec through swollen eyes as though trying to decide who was the worst threat. Spec? Or Lobo? Long seconds ticked by before he finally made the correct decision.

“Lobo ordered eyes on all of them. He’s looking for weaknesses.”

Jinx laughed. “He won’t find them in Handlers’ women. They’re tough as shit.”

The weakness lay with the men, not the ol’ ladies. Threaten the women, and the men lost their shit. Hopefully, once they sent this asshole back to Lobo, bruised and bleeding, Lobo would see that targeting the Handlers’ women wasn’t wise.

“And you don’t know where he’s staying?”

“No. He won’t tell anyone for this reason. If no one knows, we can’t tell you.”

“Where do you meet him?” Jinx asked.

“Changes every time.”

Of course it did. This would be a whole lot easier if Lobo were a stupid fucker. But unfortunately, he seemed to have a few brain cells, even if he didn’t always use them.

“Tell you one thing,” the guy said. His voice grew stronger and less distorted.

Almost smug.

“He knows you guys blew up his factory, and he is fucking pissed.”

“Tell us something we don’t know,” Jinx muttered.

“Does he have money? Someone funding him?” Spec asked.

Good question. In destroying Lobo’s meth factory, the club incinerated his main source of income.

“He’s got enough.”

Yeah, definitely smug.

Jinx met Curly’s gaze. The question he wanted to be answered shone in the prez’s eyes.

Who the fuck was giving Lobo cash?

Curly jerked his head toward the door.

Jinx nodded. “I’m out, brother. Thanks for letting me crash the party.”

“Any fucking time.”

They bumped bruised knuckles, then Jinx followed Curly outside. He pushed his sunglasses back down on his nose as the glare assaulted his eyes.

“We need to find out who’s backing him,” Curly said the second the door closed.

“Yeah,” Jinx agreed. “Think it’s someone we know? Someone who has it out for us?”

“Fuck.” Curly ran a hand down his face. “Probably. Who else would bankroll Lobo’s revenge scheme?”

“So it’s time to start going through our little black books and see who wants to fuck us?” Jinx asked.

Christ, with this group’s fucked-up pasts, it could be one of a thousand people. Hell, it could be a ghost from one of the ol’ ladies’ former lives.

“Something like that.”

“Christ, it’s always something, isn’t it?”

Curly nodded. “What did you need me for when you called?”

He wouldn’t betray Harper’s trust but wanted to get Curly’s assistance on this one. “Without going into too many details, Harper is getting letters from someone in a men’s prison who needs to leave her the fuck alone. You got any contacts who could help with that?”

“Where is he serving time?”

“North Carolina State Penitentiary.”

A pensive expression crossed Curly’s face, and Jinx could sense his wheels turning. “I may have someone for you,” he said after a moment. “Give me a few days to feel things out. If it’ll work, I’ll help you come up with a plan.”

“Thanks, Prez.”

“Always, brother.” Curly held out his hand. When Jinx grabbed it, the prez pulled him in for a back-slapping hug.
