I gritted my teeth, fighting against the fiery pain raking over my scalp as he pulled on my hair. With everything I had, I wanted to hit him. Bite him. Scratch him. I wanted to take all of my anger out on him, but I was helpless. He could do anything he wanted to me, but I couldn’t do a thing to him other than say snappy things at him, which only encouraged him to torment me more.

Without a word, Peter quietly headed to the door. He moved so quietly and deliberately that it almost looked like he was trying to sneak out.

My heart sank as I watched him go. He was my only hope for not dying since he didn’t seem all that supportive of Edward’s idea to kill me. It seemed like he just gave up on going against Peter, allowing him to do whatever he wanted to me. This possibly was the end.

Edward dragged his fingertips over my lips with a wicked grin on his face.

“I should just go ahead and get my use of you. It’s not like you can do anything to stop me,” he murmured lowly as he leaned closer to me. He maintained his grip on my hair as his lips subtly brushed the corner of my mouth, grinning when I let out a shaky breath.

I squeezed my eyes shut, a tear breaking from my left one to slide down my cheek. I waited for whatever he had in mind to do to me, but I heard the door slam open, and footsteps flood the catacombs instead. My eyes flew open as Edward whirled around to face Peter walked inside with three familiar people behind him.

Zephyr, sporting bruises on his face, strode ahead of his father, his eyes falling on me immediately. Sol and Theo, both looking exhausted but determined, stepped up to his sides as they looked at me with a range of emotions on their faces. Relief. Anger. Determination. Love.

My heart nearly burst out of my chest at the sight of them. At first, I couldn’t help but wonder if Edward had killed me without me realizing, and I was in heaven, finally with the men that I loved. That was the only thing that made sense, but as they moved closer to me, it became clear to me that this wasn’t heaven. I was still in Edward’s grip, but they had still come to my rescue. I finally felt a glimmer of hope again.

“Let her go!” Zephyr snapped at Peter, looking as infuriated as he sounded at the sight of Edward gripping me so aggressively.

The look of shock on Edward’s face didn’t stick around for long. He looked over at Peter, who stood behind Zephyr, Sol, and Theo, and started laughing coldly.

“I knew you were spineless! That’s exactly why I told Arvo to take control of the Kings. Anyone with the last name Williams isn’t strong enough to handle the money and power of the Kings,” Edward scoffed, glaring at Zephyr and Peter.

“You’re crazy,” Zephyr spat, tightening his hands into fists. “Both you and Arvo need to be taken down. Neither of you are fit to be Kings.”

Edward’s eyes swept over Zephyr, Sol, and Theo, making him smirk.

“All three of your fathers are cowards. That’s why two of them are dead and one of them is about to be,” Edward said coldly.

Sol took a step forward, but Zephyr held his hand out to stop him.

Theo looked over at me, pure worry in his eyes.

My heart ached at the sight. I couldn’t believe I thought they weren’t coming for me. They were probably looking for me this entire time, worried sick. Finally, we were so close to being together again, but Edward was standing in the way.

“Let Biba go, and we’ll let you escape with your life,” Theo told Edward sternly. Determination replaced the worry in his eyes. He was ready to get me out of there.

Edward laughed, throwing his head back.

“Are you serious? You think I’ll just let her go when all three of you are frothing at the mouth for her? Absolutely not. I’ll kill her for kicks now,” Edward spat before pulling a knife out of his back pocket. He stood behind me and placed the cold, sharp edge of the knife against my throat.

All three of the boys stepped forward with fury on their faces. When Edward pressed the knife down against my throat harder to make me wince, they immediately stopped moving. They glanced at each other in frustration, knowing that if they advanced, they risked getting me killed.

I was too afraid to even swallow. The blade had already nicked my skin, and the faint cut stung. Tears burned my eyes as I peered at the boys, wanting to be in their arms so badly. I was so tired of feeling scared and having to act defiant when I was on the verge of dying. I just wanted to fall asleep knowing that I was safe and protected by the ones I cared about the most.
