The Denver Dragons had won, so the drinks were flowing. The fans were in an amazing mood, and at that point, I thought that was as busy as it was going to get. Then the actual hockey team showed up. I couldn’t believe it. I’d heard that they like to come in, but I hadn’t expected the whole damn team.

But more importantly, I didn’t expect him.

The place simply adored the Dragons, while I was busy adoring the ruthless bad boy who looked at me like he was going to bend me over the bar and fuck me right there in front of the world.

When the team first walked in, girls went bat shit crazy, throwing themselves at the boys while every man in the place lined up to congratulate them, shake their hands, and kiss their asses. It’s ridiculous how adored they are. I mean, it’s just hockey . . . right?

I don’t really get it to tell the truth. I’ve never been much of a sports fan, but I suppose that happens when your stepmother puts a shoe through the TV screen and your ability to watch anything is gone in a flash. But I think I get it now. Those hockey players are simply beautiful. Maybe beautiful isn’t the right word. Sexy as fuck? Scorching hot? What wet dreams are made of? Yeah, that’s more like it. They’re fuckboys. They probably get off on collecting hearts and seeing how quickly they can break them. I swear, each and every one of them had a body carved right out of stone. The type of body men would kill for and women dream of being under. It was like muscle porn.

A freaking wet dream waiting to happen.

Then he showed up.

I noticed him the moment he walked through the door. It was like he had some magnetic field around him, and my eyes instantly swiveled in his direction. Knowing my luck, he’s probably the biggest player of them all. Dark hair and smoldering eyes, hitting me with that Flynn Ryder shit. He wore a black leather jacket that hugged his sculpted body just right, while his demeanor screamed bad boy and made my mouth water.

He made his way across the bar and found a seat, and though he was talking with his friends, he seemed somewhat separated from the group, like he was a bit of an outcast. He could have just been having an off day. Maybe he was tired and not in the mood to party like the rest of them. I don’t know, but something about him reminded me of myself.

And then he had to go and raise that magnificent body of his out of his chair and make his way over to the bar. The guy hardly said a word apart from telling me to keep the change, but I was a bumbling mess of nerves as his friends tried to hit on me. I must have been blushing like an idiot, but all that mattered was the way he held my stare. It was captivating and intense. I found myself desperate to look away while also wishing he’d never leave.

From the second he returned to his table, he never took his eyes off me. It was insane. He made me feel some kind of way I don’t understand, something I’ve never felt before, and shit, I think I liked it. But who am I kidding? He’s definitely a heartbreaker. Someone I should stay far, far away from.

A man like that could only be bad news.

A man like that could crush me.

A man like that . . . Well shit. He could set my whole body on fire.

Since that night, I’ve seen him one other time. He came into Micky’s one day during lunch with some friends. I was hanging out with some of the waitresses and helping where I could, even though Micky continuously demanded that I go and have a life rather than stay holed up in his bar. I can’t help it though, I love it here.

His eyes clocked me the second I came out of the kitchen with a tray full of meals. I almost fell flat on my face and spilled the food all over the place when I saw him. My nerves only got worse when I realized I was taking the food to his table. Hell, I didn’t even realize there were other people at the table until I was standing right in front of them.

I unloaded the tray as quickly as possible while his dark, smoldering stare fixated on me, then I ran like a little bitch. I disappeared up to my apartment and clambered into my bedroom, slamming the door closed behind me as though he would come all the way up here and steal my heart right out of my chest. I’ve barely spoken a handful of words to him, but he’s already deep under my skin.
