He turns and braces himself against the counter, his gaze shifting to the dining table where Oakley left her lunch, the silver tray scattered across the table while her Diet Coke has been left barely touched. “Where’s she at?” Cross asks, nodding toward the table.

I shrug my shoulders. After sentencing my best friend’s father to death last night, I really couldn’t give a shit where she is. Trailing her every move and listening to the constant flow of bitching ain’t doing it for me today. Especially not after Sawyer and Dalton took off last night and still haven’t returned.

“Don’t know,” I tell him. “Probably sulking in her room, trying to figure out just how many cocks she can take on.”

Cross rolls his eyes. “Low fucking blow, man,” he says before chugging a whole bottle of water and slamming it back down on the counter. “Don’t be salty because she doesn’t wanna fuck you too.”

I scoff, unable to believe these assholes. They know the fucking deal, and if they’re stupid enough to get involved with a dead girl, then that’s on them. “Really? You think I’m jealous because she doesn’t want to ride my cock? I’ll be carving her fucking heart out of her chest in twenty-nine days. If you want to go and get attached to a fucking ghost, then that’s on you, man.”

“Chill, bro,” he laughs, a rare smirk stretching across his lips as he watches Venom weave through his fingers. “It’s a tight pussy, and a fucking sweet one at that. She fucks like a greedy whore. Like she’ll die without feeling my cock stretching her tight little cunt. Ain’t nobody getting attached.”

“Not getting attached?” I question, raising a brow. “Then why the fuck did you carve a cross into her skin? Sounds like some jealous boyfriend bullshit to me. What’s up with that, huh? Can’t handle that she likes to fuck Dalton and Sawyer too? Your cock not enough for her?”

Cross lifts his dark gaze to mine and the confidence in his stare almost has me wondering exactly what I’ve been missing out on . . . almost. “Don’t do that, man. Don’t make me be that bastard who boasts about just how fucking hard she came on my dick. I know you can hear her scream at night. That’s not a fucking nightmare, man. It’s me.”

Rolling my eyes, I push up off the couch and grab the melted ice pack off my coffee table before striding to the kitchen. After shoving it back into the freezer, I look back at Cross, nodding toward his bandaged shoulder. “How’s it going?” I ask, both of us knowing damn well he shouldn’t have been working out while still healing from being shot in Oakley’s room only a few nights ago.

Cross turns just enough so I can’t see his wound, trying to hit me with the out of sight, out of mind bullshit. “It’s fine,” he mutters, more than ready to pretend there’s not a damn thing wrong with him. He gives me a pointed stare. “I think you’ve got bigger problems of your own to be wasting time worrying about mine.”

I clench my jaw and fix him with a hard stare, but he stares right back. He’s probably the only motherfucker I know who isn’t the least bit intimidated by me. “It’s fine,” I throw back at him, knowing damn well he’s not about to back down. “Sawyer will come around. He just needs time to cool down.”

“He beat the shit out of you, man. And you just stood there and took it,” he reminds me as though I wasn’t right there feeling the sting of every fucking blow. “It’s not fine. This move pushes him into The Circle. You’re killing his dad and condemning him to a life of servitude to Empire. He’s going to need a shitload more than just some time to cool down.”

“You don’t think I fucking know that?” I throw back at him. “What choice did I have? I should have put a bullet right between his fucking eyes the second I found him, but I didn’t. I gave him a chance to go to trial, and at the very least, a chance for Sawyer to say goodbye to his old man. Or hell, should I have just let him take out Oakley?”

Cross scoffs and drags his hand down his face, slowly shaking his head. “I mean, life would be a shitload easier if someone just took her out already.”

I can’t help but laugh. That’s the furthest thing from what we need right now, but goddamn, he’s right. Not having Oakley Quinn messing with my days would make life a fucking breeze. Though, if someone happened to get to her before I did, I’d lose everything. All of what we’re doing would have been for nothing. I won’t risk it. Oakley must die by my hand on the night of the sixtieth moon, whether she likes it or not. She will be my sacrifice, and I will claim her heart like no other.
