“Bishop,” I call, breaking into the moment.

Bishop

I close my eyes for a moment, knowing I’m probably crossing a line. However, I can’t help but want this to be a thing for us. I want to have the freedom to comfort her at any time, any place, without thinking about it.

I want her to be mine. Before I lose myself and take her lips, I pull away and look into her tear-filled eyes. She brushes her thumb against my cheek and gives me a sweet, trembling smile.

“Yeah, baby?”

She closes her eyes and releases a long breath. When she opens her eyes again, I can see the war happening within them.

She’s not immune to this. I know she has to feel this connection as much as I do. She’s just fighting it a lot harder than I am.

“Thank you,” she whispers.

“For what?”

“All you’ve done and are doing for me.”

“I want to take care of you. I’m here whenever you need me.”

“Will you talk to me to get my mind off the pain? Your voice always soothes me,” she says softly.

I want to tell her I have other ways to get her mind off the pain. If not for my driver and security, that would be my preferred method of distraction. However, I shake those thoughts off.

“What do you want to talk about?”

“Tell me something about you.”

I pause to think. At first, I have no idea what to say. As I think it over, Saga’s big brown eyes search my face.

I smile as something comes to mind. This is the perfect topic. I want Saga to begin to see a future with me. I want us to be together.

“I want to be a father. I’m pretty stoked to be one, actually.”

“Really?” she says with wide eyes.

“Yeah. Why do you sound so surprised?”

“I don’t know. Not that I don’t think you would be a good father, but what makes you want to be one?”

“My dad and my uncle. When I was younger, I noticed how much they enjoyed it. No matter what, they made time for their boys.

“I remember the smile they had for us. If I was at Dwayne’s house, my uncle would come home and scoop him up with this huge smile on his face. Same with my dad when he came home.

“They were busy men, but they always gave their boys attention. Not all of my band members had supporting fathers coming into this. My father supported me every step of the way.

“Even when he looked sad about me leaving home, he supported me. My uncle was a big support too. He talked Dwayne into coming on to be my head of security,” I explain.

“Wait, I can’t even blame this one on the pain. Dwayne is your cousin? Why didn’t I catch on to that?”

“I guess it slipped my mind to point it out. Yeah, we’re first cousins. His dad and mine are brothers. Dwayne is two years older than me, but we’ve always been close.”

“Oh my God, I can totally see it now.” She lowers her gaze. “So you want little boys of your own?”

“I’d be happy either way. Boys. Girls. I want healthy children of my own to love, protect, and cherish. I remember my father being there for me during some of the toughest times in my life, and to this day, that means a hell of a lot to me.

“I want to be that for my children,” I say and smile.

Saga looks at me and her eyes soften. The energy between us seems to increase. The need to kiss her is so intense.

“Your future wife and children will be lucky to have you.”

“Nope, I’ll be the lucky one,” I say and pull her against my chest.

I tuck her head beneath my chin and hold on to her tightly. I don’t want to let her go. This feels like exactly where she belongs.

“Saga?”

“Um?”

I open my mouth to tell her I want to be hers, but close my mouth again as I think better of it. She snuggles in closer to me. I can’t help kissing the top of her head.

Before I know it, I hear her tiny snores as she passes out. With a smile on my face, I allow her to sleep until we get to the hospital and I carry her inside.

CHAPTER 15

Should Be Mine

Saga

I can’t believe I got drunk and twisted my ankle. It’s just a sprain, but I haven’t been able to put weight on it. Which is why Bishop has been waiting on me hand and foot.

He insists on carrying me around like some small doll when I’m anything but. It’s been a week since that last show in Chicago and I’m still embarrassed about it.

Not to mention, I can’t get his words out of my head from that night. I learned a lot about Bishop that evening. He willingly showed me he’s just a man. A man with the desire to live a life with a woman he loves and a family he cherishes.
