“Are you sure it’s safe?” he teases, but I simply roll my eyes and beckon him to come in. “I was just checking the booking. What do you think?”

He has a slim gray laptop under his arm and opens it up to show me his screen. It’s open to the resort we spent hours choosing for our honeymoon.

“The honeymoon suite?” I ask, looking at the details he picked out. “Are you sure? It’s so expensive. I don’t mind doing one of the smaller suites or even a normal room.”

Finlay shakes his head and kisses my temple. “Not for our honeymoon. We’ll only be doing this once, after all. So we might as well do it right. And besides, I need to spend my inheritance on something.”

“Yes, on our children,” I say, smiling up at him.

I’m only joking, though I can’t wait to hear little feet puttering around the big estate. And if he wants to treat us both to a more expensive suite, I’m not going to argue.

I just want to make sure he’s fine with spending so much money on just two weeks of our lives – but I’m sure we will create unforgettable memories there.

“Oh, we’re already planning for our children?” Finlay asks, with a teasing smile in return. “I suppose that is what we’ll be aiming for on the honeymoon. It’s why it’s worth getting the upgraded room. We won’t be leaving it very much.”

I blush – despite how we’ve spent every evening and sometimes part of our days, I don’t think I’ll ever get used to his ribald references.

But maybe I don’t want to. It’s part of our dynamic, and I enjoy it.

“Maybe,” I say coyly. “I supposed it might be a good way to spend our time. You seem very sure about your ability to make me pregnant right away.”

Finlay pulls me close against him, safely dropping the laptop onto a nearby chair, and nibbling on my ear lightly.

“Maybe I’ve already done it,” he says, murmuring right in my ear, making me shiver.

“We’ve had enough practice – and by the time we’re back from the honeymoon, I think we can place good odds that I’ll have put a child in you.”

His words make me shiver a second time with need and desire, and I find myself moving so I can tilt my head back and kiss him.

The thought of it is primal in its allure – being bred like an animal almost, and yet it doesn’t feel demeaning or wrong.

It’s exactly what I want.

A family is what I always wanted. And a family with him will be the icing on the cake.

Finlay brakes off the kiss with a regretful look after a minute, leaning down to pick up his laptop again.

“As much as I want to stay and enjoy this, I’d better get on. There’s a lot to do.”

“You’re still scheduling the interviews?” I ask.

Even though we will only be gone for a couple of weeks, Finlay wants to take a couple of weeks off before the wedding to prepare, which means he will have to stop working by the end of the week.

The interviews are for an interim caretaker to check over the estate. It’s really a kind of glorified security guard position, someone to cover Finlay’s patrols and ensure that the estate’s integrity is upheld.

He’s having a hard time finding someone he can trust, given how much he cares about the estate.

I know he will finish in time though, there is just so much else to think about.

We wanted to get married as soon as possible, but wedding arrangements take time. Thank goodness Finlay knows people who know people.

We still needed to make some arrangements for my family who were coming from the States, and of course, Finlay wanted to hire a chef for us since my family would be staying at the estate.

The invitations had gone out soon after our engagement, and those attending also needed their accommodations procured.

The reception, the wedding itself and the officiant, the catering, and the entertainment were all taken care of. Finlay saw to that. The venue was simple because they were holding it at the estate, which was already licensed for weddings by coincidence.

“I’ve got three lined up for tomorrow,” Finlay says. “One of them is a young lad from the village. I’ve got a good feeling about him.”

“That’s great!” I exclaim. “I confirmed the flowers with the florist this morning. She’s lovely, by the way.”

“Didn’t I tell you?” Finlay grins. “She’s always been that way. Just about everyone’s calls her Auntie since I can remember.”

“She definitely has a sweet spot for you,” I tease. “As for the cake, will you still have time to come with me in a couple of hours and taste it?”

“Of course,” Finlay says. “I’ll be there. I’ll just get on and do my patrol now and then come back and get changed and then I’ll be ready to go.”
