It felt like I couldn’t breathe. I closed my eyes, my lips trembling against his. I was right at that cliff’s edge, the wind catching in my hair. I might as well jump. He already had.

“I love you, too,” I managed through my tightening throat.

And then he kissed me. And if I’d thought that first kiss we’d shared in the cemetery was life-altering, this was ethereal. When his tongue brushed mine, I realized there was no way I would ever have enough of this man.

The grip of his hand shifted to the back of my neck, pulling me closer. The entire restaurant faded into the background. Nothing else existed. Not the clatter of the dishes. Not another person. Just us. Just this kiss.

“My place or yours?” he said, slowly shifting us out of the booth between kisses.

“Mine’s ten minutes away.”

“Yours it is.”

The subway ride from Mr. Chang’s to my apartment turned out to be the longest ten minutes of my life. Halfway up the stairwell, Vance pinned me to the wall with a hard kiss. “How many more flights?” His lips went to my throat.

“Two.”

His hands went to my jeans, unfastening the button. “I don’t know if I can make it.”

I slipped my hands underneath the hem of his T-shirt, raking my nails over his hard stomach as he undid my zip. The thought of letting him take me right there crossed my mind.

His teeth nipped my neck. “I really don’t think I can…”

“Two flights,” I said, then maneuvered out of his hold and sprinted to my apartment.

By the time the door closed behind us, my jeans were on the floor. His shirt was on the kitchen counter.

“Fuck, I love you,” he breathed against my neck, his hands already working my thong down my thighs.

I gasped when his fingers plunged inside me. Fingers shouldn’t have felt so good. “I love you, too.”

I went for his belt. But before I’d unfastened it, he’d taken over, and his jeans were at his ankles. My back hit the sofa; his lips heavy against mine as he slowly slipped inside me.

Once he’d pushed all the way in, his chin dropped to his chest on a groan. “You feel so fucking good.” Then he pulled out. “I will never get enough of you.”

“Good.” I grabbed his ass, forcing him back in. “I don’t want you to.”

Within minutes, Vance had me clawing at his back, begging for relief.

He pressed in deep and hard, holding himself there. “Tell me you’re mine forever, and I’ll let you come.”

“I think that’s called coercion.” I squeezed around him.

“So is that,” he groaned. He gave a few more thrusts, driving me closer and closer. Then, true to his form, right when everything inside me was ready to detonate, he stopped.

“You like to torture me, don’t you?”

“Like this?” He pulled out, then barely sank back in. Just the tip in and out.

I raked my nails over his broad back, moaning his name.

“Fuck yes. I like to torture you like that.”

He kept up, barely dipping inside, then every few thrusts going so deep it caught my breath. He’d brought me to the edge only to yank me right back three times before I couldn’t stand it any longer.

I rolled out from underneath him and got on top, sinking all the way down on his dick. “How about you tell me you’re mine forever, and I’ll let you come.”

“I’m not as stubborn as you.” He fisted my hair, yanking my lips to his. “I’m yours forever, Blake. Now come on my cock.”

And I did. Several times that night. And most every night after.

BLAKE

TWO YEARS LATER…

Vance moved Mom’s name to the last place on our magnet board, then he took a picture and put it in the family group chat.

Maureen, if you suggest your own name for the baby again, I’m tossing your magnet into the garbage disposal. No presents for you this year.

Relax. It was all in good fun. By now, Mom expected nothing less from him.

The first time he’d met her, he outright told her how horrible it was that she’d ranked us our entire lives. Mom had rebutted by saying it was a healthy dose of competition. But ten minutes into their “discussion,” he had her in tears. And by the end of that week, she’d had me over for dinner, twice, to apologize. It was the most open I’d ever seen my mother be and the first time I’d ever heard her utter the words, “I’m sorry.” Before I’d left that night, she’d promised she would make sure our relationship got better.

Was she the best mother growing up? No. But people make mistakes, and they’re allowed to be forgiven if they’re willing to do better.

And as for her magnet board? Grace snagged it when Mom put it out for trash collection. Then she wrapped it and gave it to Vance and me as a gag housewarming gift when we’d moved into our house on Long Island. Never in a million years would I have thought I’d have a house here, but a few months after “Adrenaline Boner” went live on iTunes, the creator contacted me and offered me fifty percent of the royalties. And a few months after that, Vance paid off his grandma’s debt, then sold the My Dick Travels site for a handsome amount. And here we were. Not only homeowners but the owners of a new, up-and-coming lifestyle magazine called Auspicious Existence.
