Once outside, I stretch with Cole, unable to meet his stare.
“You okay, man?” he asks, an eyebrow hiked up in question. “Savvy said you broke up with your woman?”
I groan at his words. “Really? How did she know?”
“Brayden told her. You know they’re best friends.” He shrugs. “Can’t say I’m not happy as fuck about it. Amara really wasn’t good to you.”
Jerking my head toward my front door, I sigh in relief that Emma didn’t hear that shit. It’s her mom. The last thing she needs to hear is that everyone hates her mother.
“What about Emma?” he asks, frowning. “Is she moving out too?”
“No,” I snap, a flare of anger surging through me. “She’s staying with me.”
Cole’s eyes widen. I’ve never once spoken to him that way before. Fuck. Emma unleashed this monster. I don’t know how to get him to calm the hell down now.
“Sorry,” I rush out, forcing my shoulders to lose their tension. “I just didn’t sleep well last night.”
That’s what happens when you spend all night waking up to fuck your hand.
Unbelievable.
Emma pokes her head out of the door and gives me a shy smile. I can’t help but grin back. Of course, she looks hotter than ever in her yoga pants and form fitting jacket. I’m curious if there’s anything underneath. If Cole wasn’t here, I’d be tempted to unzip her top to see.
Thank fuck he’s here.
“Let’s roll out,” Cole says, pointing to the road.
He takes off without us and we fall in step behind him. She runs so close to me, our arms brush against each other. We share a small smile.
As much as I hate myself for crossing the line with her, I’m also elated. I haven’t felt this pumped up since…well, never. It’s like Emma has lit a fire beneath me and I’m burning now. It’s an inferno that’s out of control. I’m going to consume her in the process.
Cole has jogged far ahead of us. Maybe we’re just going slower than normal because we keep checking each other out. But, when I sense he’s far enough away, I give her cute ass a smack.
“Ow,” she huffs, grinning at me.
“That’s your punishment for wearing this sexy shit in front of me.”
“Is it a bad time to tell you I have nothing on under this jacket?”
I fucking knew it.
I stumble over my feet, no longer focused on the sidewalk but her tits, and barely correct myself before smacking face first. She cackles with laughter, and it sings to my soul.
Is this the joy you’re supposed to feel like with someone you love?
How have I gone my entire life and not felt this way before?
Cole turns at the end of the street, and I grab onto Emma to stop her. She shoots me a confused look. I crash my lips to hers and kiss the breath from her lungs.
When I pull away, she murmurs, “What was that for?”
“Because,” I say, pecking her lips one more time. “You’re too pretty not to be appreciated this morning.”
She flashes me a brilliant, teasing smile. “Want to head back home?”
I smack her ass. “Nice try. You’re not getting out of your run. Get going, little girl. If you run too slow, I’m going to smack your sexy ass.”
The girl is making me insane because she runs a lot slower than I know she’s capable of.
We get a dozen more slaps in before we catch back up to Cole.
This is dangerous.
But oh, so fucking wonderful too.
Emma
I’m going insane.
After our run earlier, I was ready to come back home and jump into bed together. It’s Saturday after all. But Brayden was there, waiting on his dad. They’ve been out at Brayden’s property all day working on stuff to get it ready to rent out. Meanwhile, I’m bored out of my skull.
Since I have nothing better to do, I clean the townhome from top to bottom. It’s practically sparkling when I finish. It fills me with pride knowing I am able to do something for Reid, especially since he does so much for me.
My phone buzzes. Speaking of the handsome devil…
Reid: We’re going to head back soon. I’m starving.
Me: I’ll make you some food. Should I do it naked?
Reid: Are you trying to embarrass me in front of my son? Seriously, now all I can think about is you in the kitchen, making tacos, and wearing nothing.
Me: Your wish is my command.
Reid: Behave.
He sends me hand emojis, probably because he wants to smack my ass, and I crack up with laughter. Another text comes through, but this one is from Mom.
Mom: I’m sorry I was rude last night. I’ve just been going through a lot. Did Reid say anything to you? Are things awkward?
If she only knew what we did last night…
Me: Things are fine. How is the new guy’s place?
Mom: Fine, I guess. He didn’t seem keen about me bringing my kid with me. Let me work on him another night or two. Will you be okay until then?
