“Really?” He smiled when I nodded.

“He’d wanted to drive. He’d picked the restaurant on the other side of town. He’d asked me to tell him honestly what I thought of the enchiladas.” I shrugged. “I’m not psychic. How was I supposed to know it was his grandmother’s restaurant?”

Drama queens would be the death of me.

He coughed as his eyes danced with barely suppressed laughter. “I’m starting to understand why you wanted to take separate cars tonight.”

I scoffed. “Some lessons stick.”

Bishop chuckled, not offended in the least, and the deep, happy sound went right to my dick. “I promise not to ditch you at a Mexican restaurant, and I promise to listen if you say something too honest.”

Hopefully, he could keep that promise.

“Then fire away.” Because we were running out of space before we got to the car. “I’m ready.”

His soft chuckle was filled with nerves, but he didn’t back down, which I appreciated. “Should we stop by Wesley’s house to grab my gear before we go out?”

Ah.

“Let me think for a moment?” My question had him nodding and I could see his shoulders relaxing back again as he stood straighter.

“Of course.” His confident response didn’t tell me how patient he was, but thankfully it didn’t take me long to process my options.

“I’m operating under the premise that if you offer something, then you’re acceptable with it. Is that correct?” We needed to clear up a few more points before I knew how I wanted to answer.

When he quickly nodded, I rolled the idea around more. “Are you trying to make sure I can handle your pup side or are you hinting about how you would like to proceed with the physical side of our evening?”

Just having him in my arms as we’d danced wasn’t enough for me…especially with the way every eye had been on us encouraging both of us to behave. It wouldn’t have been that bad except for the way half the room had giggled every time we’d brushed up against each other.

Drama queens.

The way Bishop hummed nervously gave me my answer, but I let him slowly get the words out on his own. “Both. But I don’t want to come across…”

He shrugged, not finding the right words.

In his place, I probably would’ve struggled too, especially if I wasn’t sure the man I was with would really understand me.

Just thinking about it from what I could guess of his perspective gave me my answer.

As we got closer to the car where Wesley and Tyler had stopped, I took Bishop’s hand and met his gaze, ignoring everyone else. “Yes, I think going to get your gear would be a good idea, and since it’s already late, how about a change of clothes as well? Just in case, you know.”

His eyes widened, but the barely hidden smile said he wasn’t offended.

Wesley was barely breathing behind me, which only seemed to egg Bishop on, so I didn’t feel bad when I aimed for a very serious look. “But don’t think that just because you wag your tail I’m going to give it right up.”

Wesley’s frantic coughing made it sound like he’d swallowed a bug, but Bishop’s eyes were dancing with laughter as he nodded seriously. “I will remember that.”

I had a feeling he would.

“Then let’s go.”

This was going to be an interesting night.

Chapter 4

Bishop

I’d lost my ever-lovin' mind.

I wasn’t going to go looking for it, though…I might actually find it and that would be terrible.

“No, I’m serious. We dated a few times in college before he figured out the Leashes & Lace stuff, but we were a horrible match.” Cohen’s wince had me fighting the urge to laugh as I shaved off another piece of the cheesecake he’d bought for me.

I wanted to make it last, but I was down to a sliver and I was nervous and excited about what would come next. “And yet you’re still talking to him?”

Cohen chuckled, looking a bit confused and sheepish. “He keeps people. It’s weird, like he’s got some kind of magnetic personality even when there’s an imminent explosion.”

I just couldn’t see them ever working out…and thankfully nothing in the way he’d interacted with Eli earlier said he was still pining.

I knew because I’d been very observant…not stalkerish, just watchful of the sexy, seemingly straight guy.

Because clearly, I liked torturing myself.

“You don’t seem volatile enough to have worked out well with Eli.” He and Roman were made for each other, but everything I was getting from Cohen said he was a more laid-back Dom.

Right?

“I take it the subs you’ve had relationships with have been…less dramatic?” I wasn’t sure there was a polite way to say it, but when Cohen chuckled softly and then stared down at his cake, I started to worry.

What had I said?

Thankfully, he didn’t make me guess.

“I haven’t had that many relationships in the lifestyle.” I was glad the little coffee shop he’d brought me to for dessert wasn’t that busy this late at night so we didn’t have to worry about an audience as he spoke about his dating history…or lack thereof.
