Lincoln shook his head. “She’s yours now, Jessie.”

That shit didn’t matter. West was the one thing in this world I could never be selfish with. Being selfish with her would send her running.

I looked over at him. “Lincoln, if it makes her happy, if it makes her content, then she could become yours, too. I’m trusting you not to push her away if she comes to you. She’s been so fucking unhappy for so goddamn long. I just want her to finally have everything she’s ever wanted.”

Lincoln shook his head. “Jessie, no, bro. It’ll fuck her up.”

“No,” I disagreed. “I know West like the back of my damn hand. She knows that no matter what happens between her and me, I’m the one damn person in this world that she’ll never have to worry about losing. I’m her rock. I’m the one constant thing in her life—have been from the first day she and I met.” I narrowed my eyes at him. “But if she wants you in her life, Lincoln, you need to know that she’ll be it. I won’t have you fucking hurting her. She’ll never be completely yours, bro.”

Lincoln laughed quietly. “Jessie, even when she was with me, she was never completely mine. I didn’t see it then—hell, maybe it was because I just really didn’t want to. But she sought you out in her times of need. Not me—you. She’s always been yours, Jessie. I was merely a distraction.”

I shrugged at him before I jumped into the back of the truck to grab some boxes. “Yeah, well, I have a feeling she’s going to start wanting you, too, Lincoln,” I informed him. “If she wants to be with you as well, are you okay with that?”

Lincoln shrugged. “I honestly don’t know, Jessie. I don’t know if I could ever share a woman like her.”

“Don’t give in to that shit with her then until you know for sure she’s what you want, then,” I told him. “Because a woman like West—she’s not the kind of woman you walk away from,” I reminded him. “I want her to be happy, but not at the expense of her heart being ripped from her chest.” I grabbed some boxes. “Come on before she brings her ass down those stairs to find out what the fuck is taking so long.”

Lincoln

I looked over at West as I quietly stacked some of her dishes inside one of the boxes. She was asleep on the bed with Jessie’s leather jacket draped over her since we had already stripped her bed and packed the stuff up.

Fuck, she was beautiful. Always had been. And I knew she always would be.

Jessie’s words hadn’t stopped ringing through my head all afternoon. God, I wanted her. I would always want West; that would never change.

But could I really be with her when I knew I would always have to share her with my best friend?

The way those two looked at each other, I knew not a damn thing could separate them. And yet, Jessie was willing to add me into their little circle, all so she could have everything she wanted. I didn’t know how I felt about that.

It was so out of character for Jessie. Jessie was a territorial son of a bitch. He didn’t share shit. Even as a kid, he’d never shared his toys.

But damn, his love for West must have run deep as hell because he was willing to share her with me.

“You look deep in thought,” West said softly from the bed, drawing me out of my head.

I looked over at her. Her eyes were closed, but I could tell she was awake. I grunted, watching as Jessie pressed a kiss to the side of her head before he picked up a box and carried it downstairs.

“What are you thinking about so hard over there?” West asked me.

I shrugged. “Just some shit,” I told her evasively.

She snorted, and a smile tugged at my lips. “Well, no shit, Sherlock,” she smarted off. I bit back a smile at her smart-ass mouth. “Want to talk about it?” she asked me.

I sighed. “Not right now,” I told her honestly. Hell, I didn’t know if I would ever want to talk to her about what was going on in my head. How did you even begin to bring up that kind of shit anyway?

Hey, so your boyfriend and I were talking, and we were thinking that we could share you if you were up to it.

Yeah, that would go over real fucking smooth. I knew West well enough to know that she would shut down on both me and Jessie. She moved at her own pace, on her own time, and never more than what she was comfortable with.

Telling her what Jessie and I had discussed would send her straight into her shell.
