“And not even an entire month later, I was getting hauled off in handcuffs again. She made me so angry all of the time. I couldn’t control myself around her. I just wanted to hurt her. It felt like she had ruined my entire life. I always had to watch my back, never being able to have a chance to relax fully. Because of her, I was so desperate for someone to love me that I turned to the devil himself, and he fucking ruined me.”
Tears welled in my eyes. “Because of what Jayden did to me, I was so terrified of losing Jessie, and later, Lincoln as well. Even now, I’m terrified of losing them. I just want someone to love me unconditionally, to really want to take care of me,” I admitted, my voice breaking as a couple of tears slid down my cheeks.
“You are worthy of love, and you are worthy of being taken care of,” Dr. Gresham assured me. “And Jessie and Lincoln will go above and beyond to do both. But you have to break the cycle.” I looked up at him through my tears. “When you have that little one, you need to love it and cherish it, give it every bit of unconditional love you wanted growing up. Make sure that your little one has to never turn to something toxic to feel loved and wanted like you did.”
I rested my hand over my belly. “I’ll never be like her,” I said, my voice breaking.
Dr. Gresham smiled at me. “I know you won’t, West. You’re so much better than her. You know why?” I shook my head. “Because you’re strong, West, and every single day, you’re fighting to be the best version of yourself that you can be. Just those two reasons right there make you ten million times better than the person that your mother was.”
Five weeks later, Meghan was holding my hand in hers as I stepped out of the center. I was nervous as hell. I wasn’t the same person I was; I knew that. I was more in tune to my emotions, and I knew that I couldn’t just shut off what I was feeling anymore when I didn’t want to feel.
That survival mode I had disappeared like it had never existed to begin with.
Jessie and Lincoln were both waiting on me with encouraging smiles on their faces. Meghan squeezed my hand, turning my attention to her. She came to a stop and turned to face me, a proud smile on her face. “You’ve come so, so far, West,” she told me softly, pride leaking into her voice. “You’re going to thrive, and I can’t wait to see you blossom.” She drew me into a tight hug, and I quickly hugged her back. “I’ll be coming to see you soon.” She grinned. “Now, go to your men. They’ve missed you like hell.”
I smiled at her before I released her and turned to face Jessie and Lincoln. I quickly walked over to them, and Jessie gripped my face in his hands, slanting his lips across mine. Lincoln nuzzled my neck from behind, and I sighed, so fucking happy to finally be back with them both.
Jessie pulled back, his hands cupping my cheeks. “Let’s go home, baby girl,” Jessie said softly.
I stared at the beautiful house in front of me in amazement. It was an old Victorian-style home. I couldn’t even begin to understand how Jessie had found a home like this for sale with this much land, just like I’d always wanted.
“Oh, my God,” I whispered in amazement. Tears filled my eyes, and I turned my head to look at Jessie. “Y—you rem—” I couldn’t even finish my sentence.
A soft smile tilted Jessie’s lips as he reached up to cup the side of my neck. “I remember everything you tell me. We promised you that one day you would have everything you’ve ever wanted.” He drew in a deep breath. “I’m just sorry I couldn’t get it in the mountains for you.”
I choked out a sob. “It’s p-perfect,” I stuttered.
He drew me into his arms before he leaned down to kiss me slowly, deeply. I moaned softly and reached up to link my arms around his neck, plastering my body against his. “I need to show you the rest of the house,” He growled, but his hands were running over my body, contradicting his words.
“Later,” I begged him.
“Give our woman what she wants,” Lincoln grumbled as he pressed hot, open-mouthed kisses to my neck. I released a soft moan, my head falling to the side to expose more of my neck to him.
“Fuck,” Jessie growled as he leaned down to lift me into his arms. “Bedroom.”.
Lincoln quickly unlocked the front door and pushed it open so Jessie could carry me inside. I nipped at the skin of his neck, my fingers plunging into his soft, dark hair as he carried me up the stairs. It had been way too long since I got to have my men like this, and I was starving for them.
