I shrug like nothing’s the matter.
“Well, I thought you might like to try it for yourself, Rosie. I mean, it was a lot of fun and the guys are super-hot. Scott, Cross, and Barrett look like Greek gods, and they’re interested in you too,” I say in a sly tone. “They think you’re real pretty.”
“Oh my god, you showed them my boudoir photos, didn’t you?” Rose squeals, covering her face with her hands. “Oh my god, oh my god!”
“I did,” I say in a cheery tone, “and they loved your snaps, Rosie. This is the opportunity of a lifetime! Grab it while it lasts! It’s like an Amazon lightning deal.”
Rose shakes her head.
“No, I can’t, Lils. It’s just not me.”
I give her a pointed look.
“Is it because you have a crush on someone? You’ve been acting so weird recently, and you dodge the issue whenever I bring it up.”
Rose goes bright red, but she shakes her head.
“No, there’s no one,” she lies through her teeth. “I just can’t see myself servicing three men, that’s all.”
“Rosie,” I warn. “I can see through your lies. I know you too well. This is me we’re talking about, and I know what you like and dislike. We’ve been friends for too long.”
My buddy sighs and hangs her head.
“Okay, I do kind of like someone, but he has no idea I even exist. It’s really sad. But that’s not even what’s stopping me. I need to work, Lils. You know we’re still in high school, and I have that ridiculous job at the roller rink. I don’t have the time or energy to hook up with random guys because I’m spraying used skates with deodorant while simultaneously taking orders for stale popcorn. I’m sorry, Lils. I really don’t have the time.”
I squint.
“But I thought your mom just got a new job, so why do you have to work so much? I know she was unemployed for a little, but that’s over now, right?”
Rosie nods, but her pretty features are pulled into a stressed out frown.
“Yes, but it’s not enough. I mean, my mom has a new job, but she was unemployed for about a year, so we racked up a lot of debt just trying to survive. We used credit cards to cover everything, Lils, including food, drinks, our rent, and even medical bills. Now, we’re mired in debt and I need to work to help my mom, Lils. I’m sorry. I’m sure those guys are great but—”
I cut her off.
“But nothing,” I proclaim. “I have just the solution to your problem. Hold on.”
Then, I reach over and open my bedroom side table drawer. Inside are a bunch of smaller, sparkling diamonds that Lionel purchased from Abad. They’re supposed to be strung together into anal beads, but I don’t think my stepfather will mind if I give one to my friend. He’ll never even know it’s missing.
“Here,” I say triumphantly, holding up a sparkling gemstone. “Use this to get you through the hard times. It’s worth a lot, Rosie, and I don’t want you working your fingers to the bone. Sell this, and use the proceeds to pay your bills.”
Rosie squints through the screen.
“Is that what I think it is?”
I nod happily, turning the stone so that it flashes under my bedroom lights.
“It’s a diamond of the highest quality, Rosie, and I want you to have it. You’ve been my friend ever since I moved to St. George, and for a long while there, you were my only friend. I want you to have this so that you can relax a little because you deserve better in life, and it’s my way of saying thank you.”
My friend gasps, shaking her head.
“Oh no, I couldn’t accept such a gift.”
“Yes, you can,” I correct in a firm tone. “Let’s just say that I earned this diamond, and it’s mine to do with what I please. Now, I want you to have it. Okay, Rosie? You deserve it, and I think you deserve the relaxation that a menage will bring too. Your bones will turn to liquid and your muscles to mush because it feels amazing. I promise, you won’t regret the experience.”
I can see the conflict playing out in Rose’s eyes.
“I don’t know,” she hesitates. “That diamond is—”
“Good, so it’s done!” I exclaim, ignoring her waffling. “I’ll even sell it for you if you want, and give you the proceeds. Now, when are you free to meet Scott, Cross, and Barrett? They’re eager to meet you, girlfriend.”
Rose begins shaking her head again, but then slowly, it turns into a nod.
“We could really use the financial help...”
“Then it’s settled,” I say with a smile. “See? That wasn’t so bad, was it? Take the diamond, and sell it to whoever buys and sells this stuff. Or I’ll find out for you where to pawn it, but the diamond’s GIA-graded and everything, so you’ll get an amazing price. Then, once your bills are paid, come and meet Scott, Cross, and Barrett,” I wheedle. “I promise, you’ve never seen three men so hot.”
