“Seriously? The most powerful man in the free world is scared of the father of his girlfriend?” Scowling, I sit on the bed beside her and put my forehead on hers.

“Don’t call yourself my girlfriend, angel. That word is too tame. Too simple for what the fuck we are to one another.” Licking her pink lips, she looks me in the eyes.

“Then what are we, D?” I cup her face in my hands and rub our noses together.

“Vital, angel. We are vital to each other's survival.” A tear falls from her face and leans into me, kissing me before pulling back.

“I love you, Dalton. So much.” This damn girl. Her heart is pouring from her eyes but it's more than that. I can feel it beating with me, inside of me like she was pulled from my rib.

“Oh Angel, you have no idea how much I love you. I love you but I am fucking obsessed with you, baby. My every waking thought is of you. Hell, I am one step away from being impeached because of how much of my mind you take up.”

“It’s the same for me, Dalton. I can’t think, eat, sleep or do anything if you are not with me.”

“Sweet girl, we don’t have to worry about that, ever.”

“I don’t know how you can say that? You are the President of the United States. I am half your age. You will never get reelected when they find out about us. Can you picture the news and media? Not to mention I am the daughter of the V.P. How can this possibly work?” Her voice is filled with panic and borderline hysteria. I want to reassure her. Tell her everything will be alright, but the truth is, I don’t know either. All I do know is I cannot be without her now that I have had her.

I am working on a rebuttal for her concerns even though it would be bullshit, but before I can try to muster up something she is out of the bed and in the bathroom, bending over the toilet. I am right behind her, patting her back and holding her hair. “Shit, angel. I don’t like seeing you like this. I am going to call the damn restaurant and find out what untrained chef they had prepare that Salmon last night.” She holds her hand up, trying to catch her breath. I continue to rub her and soothe her, not giving any care to the time or the fact I am late for something important. Screw that. Nothing is more important than her.

She sits up telling me she is done. Holding her hand, I help her up off the floor and to the sink where I brush teeth and wash her face for her. She spends the entire time pensive and on the brink of tears. “Dalton.” She says my name and grips my hand, stopping me mid action.

“Angel, what's going on?” Whatever it is, she is worried, and it is worrying me. She looks up at me, tears silently falling from her face and my stomach drops down to my knees. In seconds the worst-case scenario is floating through my head. I am picturing a terminal illness or god forbid she is changing her mind about us. No fuck that. I wouldn’t let her go even if she begged. I can’t.

“I’m pregnant.” She whispers, knocking the air from my lungs. Stumbling back, my hand hits the table, and it takes me a second to decipher what she just said. “Dalton. Did you hear me?” Pregnant. She’s pregnant. A baby. I bred her. Mine. She’s fucking mine! It’s chanting over and over in my mind. “Are you mad?” Her weepy voice flips my mind into action. I walk back to her; hands cupping her face and make her look at me.

“Angel, I am so damn happy. I have been trying from the moment I broke through your tight pussy to put my kid inside of you. I’m so fucking happy baby.” I pull her into me and kiss her forehead before pulling back. Getting up, I move to the drawer and pull out the box that has been looking back at me for the last two months. When I turn around she gasps.

“Dalton?” Her hand is on her mouth and tears well in her eyes.

“Give me your hand Angel.” When she places her hand in mine, so trusting and so sweet, moisture evades my eyes. “I bought this the day I met you. The first time I shook your hand I felt the missing piece of me fall into place. My heart broke open for the first time. I have been trying to find the right time to do this for the last two months, but as we both know, it is difficult to get some privacy. You know, me being the president and all.” I wink at her, and she laughs with her sweet melodic laugh. “But now, knowing my son or daughter is inside of you, there is no better time than this.” Dropping to my knees, I look into the eyes of the woman I love. “Everleigh Iris Broker, will you marry me?”
