“You don’t like sucking dick?” he asks, sounding shocked.

“I uh … Not really,” I answer, lamely. That seems a safer answer than the truth—which is I never have before.

He frowns, obviously not liking my answer. Then, he just shrugs. “We’ll work you up to it.” Before I can tell him that we aren’t going to work me up to anything, he has ushered me back to my grandmother and is opening the door. He forcefully pulls me to him and kisses the hell out of me, leaving me so dazed, I can’t manage to form one word. “I’ll deal with the cops. You don’t come out.”

“Don’t come out?” I parrot.

“Nope.”

“But it’s our house. Davis or one of the other deputies will probably want to talk to us.”

He frowns at me. “I’ll handle Davis.”

“But—”

“I said I’ll handle him or anyone else, Georgie. You’re mine. It’s my job to protect you and make sure all these men know that. Besides, I love those shorts and the way your ass hangs out of them, but if any of my men or the cops see you in them, I’m probably going to kill them. I’m not sure you want our first time together to be in a rented container outside of county lockup during a conjugal visit.”

My eyes get big as saucers as I step away from him. Nana is laughing her ass off in the background, but all I can do is stare at Griffin as he winks at me and tells Nana to make sure I’m ready for our date tonight.

“I’ll have her ready, sexy pants. Just make sure you’re not late. Can’t have my Georgie spending time with a man who can’t be punctual.”

Griffin laughs, leaning on the door. “I’ll be right on time, Nana. You just make sure it’s worth my while to obey your orders.”

“Pfft. The fact Georgie is giving you the time of day makes it worth your while. You mark my words, boy. You don’t know what you’re getting into. Your single days are over.”

“That’s what I’m counting on Nana. That’s what I’m counting on,” he says walking backwards toward his men.

He winks at me as I shake my head no. Before I can tell him not to show up, Nana shuts the door, clapping her hands together. “Now, let’s get you gussied up!”

She moves around me like she’s closer to twenty instead of eighty, disappearing into my room and leaving me to wonder only one thing.

Who is crazier, her or Griffin?

8 GRIFFIN

I walk outside, forcing myself to put thoughts of my woman in the back of my mind. Now, is not the time. I need to focus and not show weakness in front of a bunch of men who know jack-shit about me. I may be their leader, but they still don’t trust me. There are five of them here. Out of that five, two he felt he could trust with his life. The other three were still wildcards and he needed to keep that in mind at all times.

I walked to them, my face blank as I let my gaze rake over each and every single one. My shoulder is aching like hell from being grazed earlier by a bullet. I’ve had worse pain, but the annoyance wasn’t one that I wanted right now. I need to concentrate on the fact that someone had tried to take me out. I need answers.

“Jesus Christ, Prez,” C called, climbing off his bike. The tall bastard stood in front of him, his blonde hair tied up in a messy bun that made him look like some kind of Viking who’d discovered hair ties. “What the hell are you doing here of all places?”

I cock a brow up in question. “That’s hardly the first thing you should be asking me, asshole.”

C folded his heavily tattooed arms. “Oh yeah? What should I be asking?”

“Maybe you could lead with the question of why in the hell I got shot at, in broad daylight by some motherfucker who decided to try his luck outside my old lady’s house,” I growl, not liking the disrespect.

I literally watched as every single man went stiff with my response. I felt their eyes on me, but I ignored it and stared C down instead. That is until Cowboy lets out a low whistle and pushes his hair out of his face. “Hold up. You brought a woman to town with you? Why hasn’t she been at the club with you?”

My mouth curves in a smile, apparently C didn’t share that I’ve claimed Georgia. Interesting. I guess it’s up to me. “I didn’t have a woman until I claimed one this morning.”

Their heads turned in unison, like something out of that exorcism movie. The only one who wasn’t shocked was C, but he looked … frustrated. Right now, you could hear a pin drop—if not for the sounds of disbelief escaping a couple of them.
