“Hunter…” she decided to try again.

“No means no,” he answered with a meaningful look that seemed to suggest CC might not be happy if she kept pushing for a drink.

Deciding to bide her time, CC watched her strict Daddy put their name in for a table. The hostess looked up from the list of names to see Hunter for the first time.

“Dr. Warren! I’m so glad to see you! You treated my daughter when she broke her arm roller skating last month. I’m Kristine Stewart. I’m sure you can’t remember everyone’s name.”

“Hi. I hope your daughter is healing well,” Hunter answered professionally without a hint of recognition in his voice.

“She’s great—a real trooper. Kids are resilient,” the mother answered as she fluffed her hair.

When Kristine tugged the collar of her blouse slightly, providing a better view of her cleavage to the handsome doctor, CC felt her blood begin to boil. Stepping closer, CC wrapped her hand under his bicep to stake her claim.

The look the other woman gave her wasn’t welcoming. “How long is the wait for a table?” CC asked bluntly.

“For Dr. Warren, I’ll find something quickly,” the employee answered with a smile directed at only one person. “Let me get a table cleaned off and I’ll seat you.”

“We can wait for our turn,” Hunter assured her.

“I won’t hear of it. Give me a couple minutes.”

Kristine hurried away and grabbed the busboy who was busy cleaning another table. CC watched her waving her hands toward a table close to the hostess stand as Kristine obviously demanded he stop working on his current table to clear the one she had targeted. With a shrug, the busser moved to follow her directions.

CC watched Kristine flounce back toward them. “Maybe we should go somewhere else?”

“Almost ready!” Kristine assured Hunter as she returned. “Let me grab some menus and you’ll be set.”

“I think other people were here first,” Hunter suggested, waving a hand at the assembled crowd. “Thank you for thinking of us, Kristine. We’ll go sit at the bar. It looks like two seats just became available.”

He guided CC away with a hand at the small of her back. “Sorry, Pumpkin. This won’t be as private as a table would have been, but I wouldn’t feel right moving ahead of everyone else. Are you okay sitting here or do you want to go somewhere else?”

“I love the food here, especially if I have one of their delicious margaritas,” CC assured him, trying to make a joke to lessen the dreary cloud that threatened their enjoyable evening.

“Hop up here, CC. There’s a hook under the counter for you to hang Zigzag’s bag,” he suggested as he helped her onto the stool.

Hunter snagged one of the menus propped up next to the napkin holder and settled it in between them. He also grabbed CC’s hand and held it in her lap while they both leaned in.

She liked how close he was. Sitting at the bar had its benefits. Their thighs were touching and his fingers were grazing over her thigh. In fact, her breath hitched as he stoked her arousal.

After the stress of yet another woman flirting with her Daddy, CC really wanted a margarita. She lifted her gaze to look at Hunter. “Maybe I could just have one small margarita. A frozen one. I bet those hardly have any alcohol in them.”

He lifted both brows. “What did Daddy say before we came inside?”

She sighed, letting her shoulders drop.

He lifted her chin. “CC, what did I say?”

“No,” she grumbled.

“How many times did I say no?”

“Twice,” she murmured.

“Do you think I’m going to change my mind?”

She shook her head. She knew he wouldn’t be a very good Daddy if he backed down on this issue.

“I’m not trying to be unrealistic or mean,” he pointed out. “I don’t ordinarily care if you have a drink, Pumpkin. But you’ve had a busy week, and you have to get up early tomorrow. You’ll sleep better without alcohol in your system.”

“I know,” she whispered. He was right, but she just really liked margaritas.

The bartender picked that moment to lean against the counter across from them. He set two napkins down in front of them. “What can I get you folks to drink?”

Daddy smiled at him. “Can you make a virgin frozen margarita?”

“Sure.”

“Thank you. And I’ll have water.”

CC sat up straighter, grinning at her Daddy as the bartender walked away. “Thank you, Daddy,” she whispered. It would taste almost the same and not make her restless later.

He squeezed her hand in her lap and gave her a stern look. “I’m going to spank you when we get home for your behavior though.”

She slouched again. “Okay,” she conceded. It would be worth it. Spanking her wasn’t really much of a punishment. She enjoyed having his palm land on her bottom. He knew that. Seemed like a win-win. She was getting her margarita and she was going to get a spanking.
