“So am I.” His phone dings. “Mother fucker.”

“What?” I swear my heart stops beating.

“She knows.” As fucked up as it is, relief fills me that everything is out in the open.

I need to get to my girl so that I can explain things to her. She needs to hear this shit from me. I’m sure her mind is racing with so many thoughts. I can fix it. After what happened with Ollie, you never know what the fuck could happen.

Most of my life, I’ve only had to worry about myself unless I was on a mission in the Marines. Having Savannah is so damn different. I’m always worrying over her. My thoughts are always concerned with her. The more time I spend with her, the worse it gets. All I want to do is take care of her.

Maybe I should have told her some shit, but I’ve been so focused on trying to fix it that I let things get away from me. And now she’s probably thinking the worst-case scenario about my intentions. I know I would be if I were in her shoes.

“Fuck!” I slam my hand down onto the dashboard of Jason’s truck. The thought of her hurting even for a second is killing me inside.

“You didn’t do anything wrong.” Jason tries to reason with me.

“I kept shit from her.” The honest truth is I hadn’t even known she existed when I started looking into the old man’s land. I had no clue when Savannah entered the clubhouse that night that she was the heir to all of the old man’s worldly possessions. Now, I just need to convince her of that.

“To protect her.” Jason breaks me from my thoughts.

“We both know we’d be pissed if our girls kept something like this from us.”

“Yeah, but it’s our job to protect them and they know it. It’s who we are.” I run my hand down my face.

“I think he was going to kill her.” I speak the words for the first time. Why else would he have forged a marriage license? If something were to happen to Savannah, everything would then go to William.

“Yeah,” Jason agrees. “If he couldn’t get her to fall in line. Olivia says he’s been creeping after her for a while.”

“He has no idea who he is fucking with.”

“Don’t do anything you can’t come back from. You can’t raise a family behind bars.”

“They’d never find the body.” There wouldn’t be a piece of the bastard left when I was done with him. I’d be doing him a favor. I couldn’t imagine wanting Savannah and her not wanting me back. That would be a fate worse than death.

“Arch, man—”

“He better hope my father gets to him first.”

“Damn, you really called him in? You’re going to owe some favors you’re going to hate.” Jason shakes his head. “You really do love her.”

“Just fucking drive,” I growl. They’re at the bank.

The last thing I ever want to do is call a favor in to my father, but I’d do whatever it takes to get this shit worked out and done the right way. I could have done it on my own, but it would have taken time. My father only had to make a few calls and pull video tapes from the courthouses to get me the answer I needed.

William Tate is done for. Not only is he going to end up disbarred, but it gives the Feds a reason to jump in. Apparently, they’ve been watching not only William but Savannah’s grandfather for a long time. I’ve never thought that church was as clean-cut as they tried to pretend to be.

With everything being handed over to my Savannah, she’ll give the Feds whatever they want. She too has made a few offhand comments about her grandfather and not caring for how he treated people. That she made sure to steer clear of the church.

My phone goes off in my hand with an alert from Marks. He’s our road captain for the club. I’ve had him following William for a while now. He and a few of the other men rotated shifts. I wanted eyes on him at all times until this was done. I didn’t want him to have the chance to get his hands on Savannah. The day he approached her outside of the coffee shop was a true eye-opener for me. I knew then he was getting desperate, and I needed to get shit settled quickly.

Marks: Your girl just walked into the Watermark Bank. William Tate is there.

A sense of fear fills me that I haven’t felt since my time in the service. William is no different than any enemy I have ever faced. But me not having eyes on my girl is making me uneasy. William is desperate at this point, which means he’ll go to any length to get what he wants. And since Savannah hasn’t fallen in line, he’s going to follow through with his plan.
