She screeched when she got my meaning and her eyes almost fell out of her head. I just grinned and let my cock slip out of her finally.

“Yoo-hoo Hawke where are you?” Oh shit, that sounded like Charlene. What the hell was she doing here?

“Stay here I’ll be right back.” Shit, I hadn’t even given her a thought since picking my girl up at the airport yesterday.

I fixed my clothes as I walked towards the barn door and caught her about to come in. “Oh there you are…” She broke off and her eyes went to somewhere behind me.

I could hear Lynnie coming up behind me just as Charlene reached out and ran a hand down my chest. I jerked back just in time to avoid her lips on mine. “Uh, what are you doing here?”

“Well, I went into town and heard your boy was home for the summer and just thought I’d come by and say hi.” She looked past me to Lynnie and I shifted my body to shield her protectively.

I didn’t like the look on her face when she looked at my Kitten. I hated it even more when I saw the look of understanding come into her eyes.

“Oh and who’s this? Garrett’s little girlfriend? You should tell her we dress a little more…appropriate around here.” She looked down her nose at Kitten and I felt my hackles rise.

But before I could defend her she went on the defensive and I got to see just how much of a kitten she really is.

“Are you her daddy too? She looks a bit old.” I reached out to grab her as she walked away but she pulled away from me. “Get the hell off me.” She ran across the yard and I tried to go after her but Charlene got in the way.

“This isn’t a good time Charlene you should leave.” I started to walk away to go after my little hellcat and soothe her.

“Hawke, you and that girl? Why she can’t be more than eighteen, a baby. I don’t think the folks around here will look too kindly on you carrying on like that with a girl so young…”

I gave a her such a look of anger that she took a step back. “I’m going to marry that girl. Now leave.” I left her standing there with her mouth open and went in search of Kitten.

I couldn’t find her anywhere that first day and when she did show up she was always in the company of one of the others. I tried cornering her in the hallway once, “it’s not what you think Kitten,” but she brushed me off and Melissa came in just then.

That night she didn’t come to me and when I went after her in a fit of anger, I was brought up short by the laughter I heard coming through the door to her room. She had Melissa in there with her.

For two days she avoided me and if that wasn’t bad enough it’s the shit she was doing that pissed me off no end.

Every time I looked she was smiling or whispering to Jonathan. I knew she was purposely doing it because once I snuck up on them and heard her telling him off. The poor kid must be confused as hell with her hot and cold antics.

By day three I’d had enough and when the others got up to leave the breakfast table I stopped her. “Lynnie, I need a word with you.” We had a stare off and I could see the confusion on my son’s face as he looked from me to her and back.

“Dad…?”

“Not now son, we’ll talk later.” I kept my eyes on her and saw she was still mad. “I promised Jed that I’ll let him show me…” She got up from the table and turned her back on me.

“You try walking out that door you’ll be sorry.” That stopped her in her tracks and she looked to the others for help. “The rest of you go on, we’ll see you later.”

They spoke in hushed tones as they left, my son giving me querying looks over his shoulder until they were gone.

“Now you…” She didn’t let me finish. Instead she did the most dangerous thing she could’ve done in the situation; she ran. I went after her as she went out the backdoor and across the yard.

I wasn’t sure if she was looking for the others or a place to hide when she ran into the barn. I grinned as I followed her in and started to unbuckle my belt once I ran her to ground and had her cornered. “Don’t run from me.”

She backed up a little but there was nowhere to go. The barn was cluttered with hay bales and other ranch paraphernalia. “I don’t want to talk to you.”
