“Stay back, Little girl. I don’t want you to sprain that ankle again,” Razor told her sternly. The pain in her eyes made him soften his tone. “I’ll need your tender care as soon as we’re inside.”

“Okay, Daddy. I need to make sure you’re okay,” she told him.

When he finally stood, she hurried forward to wrap her arms around him. “I’m so glad to see you. I was petrified something happened to you.”

“I’m always going to do whatever it takes to get home to you, Honey.”

“Promise?” she asked with fat tears running down her cheeks.

“I promise.”

“Let’s get you inside,” she suggested, moving away to scan his ripped jeans with blood darkening the worn denim. Her concerned expression intensified as she visibly stopped herself from touching the injury. Her gaze lifted to meet his again.

“I’m okay, Honey,” he reassured her and ran his hand down her arm. “We’ll focus on me in a moment. I need to see to the woman with Vex first, Little girl.” Razor turned to one of the men who’d rescued him. “Fury? Could you get my medical bag from the desk inside?”

“You’ve got it.”

Wraith kicked down his stand, switched off the engine, and the massive biker blew a kiss to Caroline, who stood at the edge of their driveway. “I’m good, Precious.”

“Daddy! You’re hurt!” she told him, pointing to his arm. “Can I cross the street?”

After checking both ways, Wraith gave her permission. “Come here, Little girl. Thank you for waiting until it was safe.”

When she stood beside him, Wraith checked out his arm and shook his head. “I’ll be damned. Those guys can hit the broad side of a barn.”

“They shot you!” Caroline shouted.

Wraith rushed to assure her. “I’m just grazed. Razor will fix me up.”

“Anyone else injured?” Razor called, scanning the group of rescuers.

“My bike,” Hellcat complained and pointed to his left handlebar where the long tassels he used for control were missing. “They shot off my get back strips and put a hole in my saddlebag.”

“Oh, no,” Caroline said. “At least they didn’t hit your leg and arm?”

“Good driving, Hellcat. Thanks for protecting my back. I owe you one,” Vex said, holding the woman he’d rescued in his arms. “I’ll owe you too, Razor, if you’ll come check her out.”

“I’m okay.” Her faint voice didn’t convince anyone. “Water?”

“Vex? Is she staying with you?” Razor asked, suspecting he already knew the answer.

“Yes.” Vex’s tone told those who gathered a lot.

Razor nodded. “Carry her inside your cabin, Vex. Put her on the kitchen table. Wraith, grab a bottle of water.” He followed Vex and couldn’t fail to note that the biker’s house was barren. No pictures on the wall. No decorations or pillows. Fury entered quickly with Razor’s bag.

When she was seated on the table, Razor said, “Let’s see if she needs to go to the hospital.”

“No!” The woman begged hoarsely before coughing.

The team of Devil Daddies who had invaded the Ravagers’ compound exchanged glances. All except for Vex. His gaze focused intently on the woman.

“I’ve got you. You’re safe. Let Razor check you out,” Vex told her.

“O… okay,” she whispered.

“Here’s some water. Drink,” Vex spoke quietly to her as Wraith handed her an open bottle.

Vex’s face hardened when she guzzled it down so fast she choked. “Easy. You’re in a good place now. We’ll get more. Tell me your name.”

“Angel.”

Chapter 19

“Don’t cry, sweetheart. I’m okay,” Razor reassured her, wiping the tears from her cheeks.

“I think this is the last one. I’m so sorry I had to hurt you,” she apologized.

“You’re helping me, Little girl. Now my skin can recover.”

As soon as he’d treated Angel and they’d gotten the word that the Ravagers had retreated instead of attacking, Honey had dragged Razor inside to attend to him. He hadn’t resisted. That alone told her how exhausted he was. She tried not to worry more and failed. Putting that nervous energy to good use, she followed his instructions as he coached her through the necessary treatment.

Honey looked at the pile of grit and small stones she’d pulled from his skin and shuddered. Razor had tried to tend to the wound after the Ravagers had removed his bonds, but plucking debris from cuts and scrapes he couldn’t see had been impossible. She’d hated opening up his injury to clean out the road rash. Each grimace or involuntary hiss of pain from Razor had hurt her heart. Now, his skin oozed blood and other juices in reaction to her probing tweezers, and her hands shook from forcing herself to do what he needed.

“Without taking that out of me, these spots wouldn’t have healed. You’ve saved me a lot of pain and infection,” Razor told her. “And hey, look. My ass isn’t as hairy on this side now.”

“You! Your butt wasn’t ever hairy. A bit fuzzy, perhaps.”

His attempt at humor had eased the tension in her expression as she considered his derriere. He cupped her face and kissed her gently. “I’m fine, Little girl. Worried about you more than about myself. Can you tell me why you left? Were you concerned about me treating Caroline?”
