“Wow, where’s the fire?” Palmer asked as she came out of the kitchen and watched me run into my bedroom.

“I need a cute dress and strappy heels to wear out to dinner tonight with Gannon.”

She leaned against the doorframe of my room. “Okay. Where’s he taking you?”

I pulled out a light-yellow dress and tossed it onto my bed. “Um, some new place down by the docks.”

Palmer gasped. “Oh my God. He’s taking you to Pete’s Place?”

I stopped my mad dash of pulling out sundresses and turned to look at her. “You’ve been there?”

“Um, no. I mean, yes. I took a tour of it before they opened, but I haven’t eaten there. Everyone wants to eat there. It’s a beautiful restaurant with killer views. How in the world did he get reservations? I heard they’re booked out for like a month.”

I tilted my head. “Why? What makes it so great?”

“The food, the view, the atmosphere. The fact that it’s the nicest restaurant in Seaside—sorry, Mom and Dad.”

Turning to look at all the sundresses on the bed, I sighed. “I’m guessing it’s not business casual then?”

“I think it is, but you definitely want to kick it up a notch. I’ve got the perfect dress for you to wear. Grab a pair of beige heels and meet me in my bedroom.”

Doing as my baby sister said, I grabbed my favorite pair of heels and rushed to her room. I came to an abrupt halt when I saw the dress Palmer was holding up.

“Oh my goodness. That dress is stunning, Palmer.”

She smiled as she looked from the dress to me. “It cost me a small fortune, and I’ve never had the chance to wear it anywhere.”

I shook my head. “I can’t be the first one to wear it.”

“Yes, you can,” she said, holding the dress up to my body. It had embroidered flowers and leaves against an apple-green color. It was tea-length, and the fabric looked soft and comfortable.

“Okay, so the V-neck will show some cleavage,” she said. “I suggest not wearing a bra with it.”

Nodding, I took the dress. “Okay.”

“The best part is that it has pockets.”

I smiled. “I love dresses with pockets.”

“Right? Be sure to take a picture and send it to me. Also, you know how you used to pull your hair up by taking the different strands and wrapping them around each other?”

“Yeah.”

“Do that. It’ll be stunning with this dress.”

I hopped up and down like a schoolgirl before I turned and headed out of Palmer’s room. “I feel terrible wearing this before you get to.”

“Don’t. I’m glad someone gets to wear it. Poor thing has been sitting in my closet for almost a year. It’s not her fault all men suck and I never want to have anything to do with any of them ever again.”

Stopping at the front door, I glanced back at my sister. “Why don’t you really tell me how you feel, Palmer.”

She laughed. “Have fun! Take lots of pictures. Oh, and I can’t wait to tell Sutton. She’s going to be so jealous!”

When I got out to the car, Gannon was leaning against it waiting for me. He whistled then smiled, and I couldn’t help but giggle. I hadn’t been this excited for a date in a very long time.

“Got everything?” he asked as he held the door open for me.

“Yep! Palmer let me borrow one of her dresses, I’ve got it in my bag.”

Making his way back around to the driver’s side, Gannon got in and then turned the car around.

“She said she got to tour the restaurant before it opened. And she also said that the waiting list to get a reservation is months out. How in the world did you get one for tonight?”

Gannon looked at me and winked. “I have my ways.”

“Oh really?”

He nodded. “Yep. As it happens, the owner of the restaurant is Pete Wilson.”

“Should I know him?” The name didn’t ring a bell.

Gannon chuckled. “Maybe I should say the owner is Pete Wilson.”

I gasped. “Your cousin from Boston?”

“The one and only.”

“That’s how you got a reservation?”

“That is, indeed, how I got it. It doesn’t hurt being related to the guy who has the hottest new restaurant in town.”

“Don’t let my folks hear you say that.”

Gannon laughed.

I smiled over at him. “Oh man, wait until I tell Palmer you’re related to the owner.”

Gannon

I looked at the clock and called out, “We need to leave in fifteen, Addie.”

“Okay, almost done!” she replied from the bathroom.

My phone buzzed, and I pulled it out to see Trish calling me. “Hey, Trish, what’s up?”

“I hate to bug you on your day off, but it looks like that hurricane is going to make its way up the eastern coastline. They were thinking it might turn at the Carolinas, but that doesn’t seem to be the case.”

“It’s definitely a hurricane?”
