“You usually get the…?” I prodded. His responses so far had proven what a passionate lover he’d be. To be so lost already after just a few touches… he wouldn’t be able to hide anything from me when we made love.

The reasonable part of my brain reminded me to focus on the present, not on things that might never be. As strong as my feelings for Christopher were, there was still so much I didn’t know about him, and I had no clue if he wanted me beyond a first kiss.

“Lemon,” Christopher said impatiently. His uninjured hand cupped my cheek. “I usually buy the lemon bodywash, but the store was out. I… I can keep getting the orange,” he said hesitantly.

I managed not to smile at his nervous declaration. Instead, I kissed the other side of his mouth. “Sweetheart, it doesn’t matter what you buy,” I said as I teased the crease where his lips met. “As long as it’s on this beautiful body,” I continued as I slid my hand up and down his slim thigh, “it’s going to be my favorite.”

Christopher went very still in my hold. His eyes met mine. He was blinking rapidly like he was trying to keep from crying.

“Don’t say stuff like that, okay?”

It wasn’t a command. It wasn’t even a request. It was a plea.

An out-and-out plea that made me want to kill the man who’d hurt Christopher so badly.

“Which part?” I asked, though I already knew. “The part about you being beautiful or the insinuation that this won’t be the only time we’re together like this.”

“Both,” Christopher responded.

I could already feel him trying to mentally back away. I kept my hold on him firm as I leaned in and gently brushed my mouth over his. “Can’t do that,” I said before kissing him softly again. “I’m going to do everything in my power to make sure this happens again… and often.” I drew out the next kiss and added a little lick to the seam of his mouth. His gasp almost made me forget my next words.

Almost, but not quite.

I made sure to put a little distance between our mouths so I could really look at him. As soon as Christopher’s eyes opened and focused on me, I said, “Do you see that chair?”

I made sure to wait until he glanced at the rickety chair in the corner. When he nodded, I continued with “That’s where I spent the whole night because I couldn’t take my eyes off of you, Christopher. I can’t take my hands off of you right now. You are beautiful, Christopher. So many kinds of beautiful. And if things go the way I want them to, I’ll be able to spend the rest of my life proving it to you.”

I didn’t give him a chance to respond or myself too much time to acknowledge what I’d just basically admitted to. Instead, I got started on my promise and sealed my mouth over his.

CHAPTER EIGHT

CHRISTOPHER

I was sure I would die under the onslaught of Rush’s kiss and all the emotions that came with it. I still couldn’t comprehend how I’d even woken up with the man sitting on my bed, his finger caressing my skin. I also couldn’t fathom what I’d been thinking when I’d kissed his finger.

Except I did know what I’d been thinking, or hoping, rather.

This.

Exactly this.

I wanted to believe that his mouth had been made for mine because we seemed to fit together perfectly. And wherever he led, I followed. I had no idea if I was fumbling my first real kiss or not, but I didn’t care.

That was what Rush did for me.

He kept the darkness at bay. The fear, the shame, the disappointment, none of those had a voice when Rush was touching me, when his mouth was feasting on mine. He was my only focus. Pleasing him, showing him how much he pleased me—that was now my only goal in life.

It didn’t take long before I figured out how to return his kisses. It was such a natural thing that when Rush broke the kiss for a moment, I took control of it. As I explored his mouth, the flames that had been simmering inside of me became a full-on inferno, and I soon found myself nearly straddling Rush’s lower half.

My lesson in kissing quickly became something else entirely, and I wasn’t sure which one of us had started it. All I knew was that in a matter of seconds, both of Rush’s hands were gripping my ass through my sweats, and I had both my hands on his face as we kissed. When Rush pulled me forward, I could feel his hardness against my own, even through several layers of fabric.

“Rush,” I whispered brokenly once I managed to rip my mouth from his. But I couldn’t stop moving my hips as I instinctively searched for something. I felt like I was going to explode into a million pieces, and I both feared and wanted that.
