When all hope has evaporated, his search will focus on replacing himself.

Rimi has existed in the haze of a mountain shielded by clouds. Always dreaming of the sun, she’s never risked basking in its warmth. As the last hope for desperate dragons, being cherished as a fated mate is not this female’s destiny.

Keres has lived without a mate for too long. His battle to cling to sanity is coming to an end. Only one choice remains—abandon his need for a Wyvern mate to hunt something more elusive. The clock is ticking as blackness consumes his mind and soul.

Change has come to Wyvern. A centuries-old pact between the founders and their powerful allies could save the inhabitants of the city once again, but only a dragon Daddy can truly guard his mate from harm

*************FULL BOOK START HERE*************

Prologue

Nestled in the center of a ring of imposing mountains, the village of Wyvern has existed for hundreds of years. Its quaint town center wraps around a square featuring a commanding dragon statue elevated on a block-wide platform for all to admire. The words chiseled into the risers of the stone steps are a mystery to most. Almost all the ninety-plus commemorative etchings feature the last names of the founding families of the town without explanation. During the prosperity of technological tools, most forgot the old ways.

One female descendant of each founding family has traditionally served as the keeper of knowledge. Passing a huge tome from generation to generation, that woman ensures the pact the original settlers made with the first inhabitants of this land can’t be forgotten. The agreement between the huge, lethal creatures living in the mountaintops and the struggling, besieged humans sealed the duties for both sides. Promising protection for the people and fated mates for the dragons, this pact has evaporated from the minds of most of the citizens of Wyvern. But the dragons have not forgotten.

When all things powered by technology suddenly ceased to function, the worst features of humanity erupted as people struggled to survive. Once again, the strength and power of the massive beasts who have guarded the city is needed. Revealing themselves to the current-day citizens, the dragon horde fulfills their promise.

As descendants of those original families are found, mate bonds are forged between dragons and humans. The old ways are essential to the survival of all, and the ancient pact will soar in importance once again. For there are dragons, and they hunt for more than prey.

Five dragons of the horde have recently discovered their mates in the growing population of Wyvern. Others still search, hoping that each day brings their mate back to their ancestors’ home. The stakes are dire for the shifters. Mates create a balance between their human and dragon identities. One teeters on the brink of madness without the companionship of a mate.

Chapter 1

Flames heated the sky in front of Keres. He snapped back into his own mind mid-plummet. Ahead of him, a young amethyst dragon frantically flapped his wings in a desperate attempt to stay in front of Keres. A few more minutes and the last of the smaller dragon’s energy would run out. Keres could end him with one snap of his powerful jaw.

Keres shook off the blood lust that sizzled through his veins. Seizing control, Keres diverted from his target and flew in the opposite direction without another look at his prey. The black dragon wanted to end the usurper for daring to appear on the horizon. Even though Keres was miles from his territory, he’d reacted as if the other dragon had trespassed. His lack of control both angered and frightened him.

And I had no idea what was happening.

The animal side of him had taken complete control, pushing Keres’s logic and reasoning out of his skull. A roar burst from his throat as a final warning to his victim, who had disappeared from view as his dragon refused to back down completely. His jumbled thoughts continued to untangle until Keres could think rationally.

Still pissed off, he headed toward his mountain. Keres could isolate himself there until he was totally back in control. A movement to his left made him wheel around to face the incoming threat. Claws ready to attack, Keres readied his fire.

Keres! Stand down. Two mates are here. Drake’s voice echoed in his head.

The alert didn’t process. Battle lust raged inside Keres. How dare the dragons approach his territory? He would teach them a lesson they’d never forget.

Rising into the sky, he loomed over the bronze, blue, and gold dragons. While he recognized them as those of his horde, Keres didn’t think past them trespassing on his land. He screeched with anger, not to warn the invaders, but to make sure his voice was the last thing they remembered.

Keres! Please don’t hurt my Daddies!

The quiet voice sounded both scared and brave. That made him hesitate and allowed Keres a moment to think. He couldn’t attack horde members. They were the only ones he trusted. Shame filled his heart.

Skye. Tell your Daddies to leave my mountain!

Keres? You’re over Ardon’s lair. We’re going to visit for a tea party with Aurora. Come join us. You must be hangry.

Her sweet logic rocked him out of the blood rage filling his thoughts. He looked around and discovered Skye was correct. He wasn’t on his land.

Wheeling, Keres headed for his lair. Drake, Oldrik, and Ardon sent him messages he didn’t bother to hear. It would be the same old Keres, you have a problem, panicked message they’d sent repeatedly the last few weeks.

Keres, I’m worried about you. Skye’s voice registered on him. He could feel the concern in her thought.
It’s time for the wanderer to come home.

Brooks Battlefield always does things his way. Part of his plan is to get back to Wyvern someday. When he was ready. Had he only known…
A delicious scent signals Rogan that someone extraordinary is in town. His prey may try to resist, but the red dragon won’t allow him to deny the bond that links them together.
The stakes are dire for the shifters. Mates create a balance between their human and dragon identities. One teeters on the brink of madness without the companionship of a mate.

Chapter 1

Brooks had discovered that gatherings had become the norm in Wyvern these days. Sheltered together from the craziness he’d experienced himself outside the protective mountain ring around the ancient city, the Wyverns had grown closer as they had to work together to survive. These town-wide celebrations were a uniting break from hard labor.

He glanced around, looking for people he recognized. A drawback from being away for so long, he struggled to match the young friends from his memory with the older faces around him. When he caught sight of Skye, he headed her way. He’d like to make sure she was as happy as she appeared.

“Hey, Skye. Can I join you? I’ve been wondering how you are.”

He smiled at the group as they glanced up. To his delight, Skye nodded enthusiastically and patted the ground near her.

“Brooks, I’m glad you’re here,” Lalani greeted him. She was a familiar face as well. His grandmother loved the dragon’s mate and met with her often.

Settling between the two women, Brooks caught up with the latest news. Skye, as usual, didn’t say much. He was tickled when she cared enough to ask him anything.

“You’re staying in Wyvern?”

“It’s safe here. There’s a lot to do, so I can keep busy. I’ve been working on the passageways under the old town. I’m feeling like a tunnel rat. My grandmother insisted I come today to interact with people,” Brooks shared, before shaking his head and adding, “I hate to say, I’m getting itchy to travel around. I’m not used to hanging around the same place.”

“Your grandmother is so happy to have you here,” Lalani observed.

“I know. I’m not climbing the walls yet. Just trying to decide what to do long term,” Brooks assured her.

Skye patted Brooks on the shoulder. Immediately, two warning growls made him freeze and raise his hands to show he was harmless. Ardon and Oldrik were obviously very protective of their mate. He watched the blue dragon claim Skye, placing her on his lap.

Brooks chose the wisest move when dealing with a jealous dragon. He excused himself and shifted to the other side of Lalani. Keeping his eye on Skye, he suspected they were talking mentally. She seemed thrilled with her mates. Brooks was pleased for her.

Like something that special would ever happen for him.

A tune Skye hummed under breath sparked interest as almost everyone recognized it. Brooks had always called it the Ode to Wyvern. It was a song all Wyverns learned as a child. Ciel began to sing, and the group joined her, including the dragons. Suddenly the words took on true meaning. Chills went down Brooks’s spine.

Wyvern. Oh, Wyvern, we reached you in a battered state.

Will your mountain barriers guard us from those who hate?

Seeking sanctuary, the families dared to make a deal.

Winged creatures and Guardians allowed us to heal.
Skye has long dreamed of fanciful creatures. A bone-deep urge to capture the dragons she sees in her dreams has consumed her on the trek back to Wyvern. In a world turned topsy-turvy, could these magnificent beasts be important to someone many deem inconsequential?

As the eldest dragon in the horde of dragons protecting Wyvern, Oldrik has seen more than any other beast. The scent of a new mate has always been undeniable. One woman tantalizes him, but the full power of a potential mate bond is not there.

Ardon is a youngster compared to the longevity of the others. Confused by the allure of an artist he can’t pinpoint as his mate, he seeks the advice of the eldest. When they approach Skye together a passion unlike any other he’s experienced flames inside him. He hears Oldrik’s guttural reaction and realizes the same response has also ensnarled him.

Change has come to Wyvern. A centuries-old pact between the founders and their powerful allies could save the inhabitants of the city once again, but only a dragon Daddy can truly guard his mate from harm. Or should that be dragon Daddies?

Revealing themselves once again to the masses, the dragon horde fulfills their promise.

As descendants of those original families are found, mate bonds are forged between dragons and humans. The old ways are essential to the survival of all, and the ancient pact will soar in importance once again. For there are dragons, and they hunt for more than just prey.

Three dragons of the horde have recently discovered their mates in the growing population of Wyvern. Others still search, hoping that each day brings their mate back to their ancestors’ home. The stakes are dire for the shifters. Mates create a balance between their human and dragon identities. One teeters on the brink of madness without the companionship of a mate.

Chapter 1

“You’re coming with us, beautiful.”

Skye battled the terror that froze her in place. The expressions of the five grungy men surrounding her reflected their steely determination and lust. Skye didn’t detect a sliver of compassion or sympathy.

Vultures.

“Nothing to say, blue eyes?” a voice from behind her asked.

Skye glanced over her shoulder. A bulky man walked forward. She turned slightly but froze as the first man who’d greeted her took several steps forward as well. The circle around her was solid without gaps. At least not at torso level. Her fingers tightened on the straps of her light backpack.

“Hey! What’s going on?” a male voice called from a few feet away.

Everyone turned to see two men approaching. One carried a bottle of amber liquid in his left hand.

“Beat it. She’s ours,” the thug closest to the newcomers growled.

“Now, that’s not very neighborly. We thought you might wish to join us in some whiskey,” the man holding the bottle suggested, waving it around. His voice was slurred and slow.

“We capture her and dispatch them.” This recommendation coming from one of the men Skye now thought of as vultures didn’t surprise her.

While they considered that, their attention wavered from Skye. Without a second’s hesitation, Skye threw herself to her knees and scrabbled through the opening between the men’s legs. The stench of their bodies assaulted her nose, but it only lasted a breath. She raced for the men who’d risked interrupting and darted behind them without a word.

“Seems like this young woman wants to go with us,” the second man said. “We’ll just take her off your hands.”

Her first savior turned and gave Skye the bottle. “Hold on to this for me. I don’t think they’re smart enough to walk away.”

She shook her head, agreeing. Whatever the group of thugs were, it wasn’t intelligent. Vultures. She definitely didn’t give away that he had slipped her a knife as well.

With a wild yell, one of those vultures raced forward. His weak approach was nothing like the swooping forays of the dragons who raced in Skye’s dreams at night. She stepped slightly back from the men who’d come to her defense to give them room and lifted her two weapons.

Gone were the days when she rode the bus to the park to draw or sat in a class, trying to capture the feminine beauty of a model. Skye had gotten this far on her trek back home by being alert and hiding from threats. Lost in thought, she’d missed the warning signs of this attack. She had to survive to reach her hometown. Wyvern.

While the men in front dealt with the first attacker, the others raced forward to join the fray. One of the lowlifes sidestepped the others to target her. When he grabbed for her upper arm. Skye whacked him over the head with the bottle, stunning him. That vulture staggered back, weaving uncertainly. Another took his place. Skye held on to the neck of the shattered bottle.
Lalani had just found her birth mother in the secluded town of Wyvern when the change hit. Her joy quickly turned to tears when Lalani lost her to an accident before they could really get to know each other. A clash with a neighboring family makes her withdraw into the big, lonely house. She’s not coming out for anything.
Known for his ties with nature, Khadar has taken on the additional role of assisting the townspeople with growing food to sustain them. When he appears at the first gathering featuring some of the crops grown in the community garden, he discovers the most desirable treat of all—his mate.
Change has come to Wyvern. A centuries-old pact between the founders and their powerful allies could save the inhabitants of the city once again, but only a dragon Daddy can truly guard his mate from harm.

*************FULL BOOK START HERE*************

Prologue

Nestled in the center of a ring of imposing mountains, the village of Wyvern has existed for hundreds of years. The stakes are dire. One teeters on the brink of being lost without the companionship of his mate.

Chapter 1

Loud pounding on the door made Lalani freeze in the doorway to the family room. When it continued, she set the bowl of stale crackers and a few morsels of cheese on a table and crept to the door. Lalani looked over her shoulder to make sure Lettuce was safe on the couch. She could see a hint of green fabric behind the cushions.

“Lalani Quintana! We know you’re inside. Open the door immediately. All residents are required to attend the Wyvern gathering.”

Her eyes widened in fear before she clenched her jaw in anger as her emotions warred inside her. Like she was going to open her door to hear more threats. Her mother’s neighbors had elected themselves to be the wardens of the block. Despite the police telling them she could continue to live in her birth mother’s house, they wouldn’t stop plotting to make her life as difficult as possible.

When she’d left to go to the big meeting in the square, they’d thrown her suitcase into the street and sealed the door locks with superglue. Thankfully, she had left a window unlocked off the elevated deck. They hadn’t discovered that. The kind gentleman still running the hardware store had changed the front door lock for her. She’d grilled cookies for him with the last of the propane tank.

Bang. Bang. Bang!

“Go away. I’m not in the party mood,” she yelled, feeling brave with the door between them.

“Lalani Quintana. You are required to attend. Open the door or we will remove it.”

They were going to break the door down? What craziness was this? When they struck the door again, making the entire barrier shudder, she rushed forward to unlock it. She couldn’t live in a house without a door. Her heart pounded inside her chest as she saw the burly men standing on her doorstep. These guys weren’t messing around.

“Lalani Quitana, you will come with us.”

One stepped closer. He didn’t try to usher her out but reached around her to pick her up. The others parted as he turned to carry her toward a waiting trailer being pulled by a horse. Lalani pushed against his chest struggling to free herself.

“Please don’t make me leave. My neighbors are psycho. They’ll break in if I’m not here.” She tried to appeal to the man’s sympathy.

“Your neighbors are already at the gathering,” the man answered without hesitating.

“Please. I can’t go like this. Give me five minutes to put some clothes on,” she begged as they approached the old-fashioned conveyance.

“Not happening,” the man said. “You are the last straggler.”

Heat flooded her face as everyone turned to watch them. This was so embarrassing. She couldn’t imagine what the other riders thought as she was hauled to the cart. Lalani reminded herself they were there for not following the mandate as well. It didn’t help.

He set her feet on the wooden floor of the cart and closed the tailgate. Lalani cowered into the corner as the others confined in the cart looked her over. All were in various states of casual dress. She was the only one in a nightshirt. Lalani wrapped her arms around herself and hunched her shoulders, trying to disguise her lack of a bra.
Bewildered by the challenges and dangers that erupt, Ciel tackles the long trek back to Wyvern. The appearance of a silver dragon is the final straw, making her panic. When their bond snaps into place, the attraction between them ignites.
By scent alone, Argenis knows that the mother seeking assistance to bring her daughter home is related to his future mate. He will battle any foe to keep her safe and make her his.

Change has come to Wyvern. A centuries-old pact between the founders and their powerful allies could save the inhabitants of the city once again, but only a dragon Daddy can truly guard his mate from harm.

*************FULL BOOK START HERE*************

Prologue

“I’m going to open the door to get some fresh air,” Ciel said hesitantly. The man in the driver’s seat was becoming angrier by the moment when he couldn’t figure out what was going on with his car.

“Just get out of the car,” her Uber driver ordered. “Call for another ride.”

They’d already sat in the vehicle for fifteen minutes and it had become quite toasty inside.

“My phone isn’t working. Is yours?” she asked.

“If it was, do you think I’d just be sitting here?” he asked, completely pissed off and annoyed.

Ciel pulled the door handle, but it wouldn’t open. He must have the child locks engaged so no one could stiff him for a job. She waited for him to connect the dots and realize she couldn’t get out. Pressing a button with barely concealed anger, the driver glared at her in the rearview mirror. She tried again. Nothing.

When he finally got out of the car and opened the back door, Ciel quickly slid out of the seat. She turned around and pulled the release on the seatback to fold it down and dragged her suitcase out of the trunk before he could get mad about it not opening either. Thank goodness a friend had the same model.

Dragging her suitcase up on the sidewalk, Ciel started walking. She had no idea where she was. Totally dependent on her phone’s GPS, she’d never learned street names other than the main drags of the town where she went to college. When she passed a grocery store, she made herself stop and walk in so she could get directions.

The employees were all seated on the counters at the checkouts, enjoying popsicles. One met her gaze and invited, “All the frozen food is melting. The manager is giving away anything you want to take with you.”

“Really?” Ciel double checked.

“Yeah. No charge. He’s going to have to throw it out anyway,” the cashier told her.

“I really came in for directions. Could someone tell me how to get to Washington Boulevard?” Ciel asked.

“Sure. I live near there. It’s seventeen blocks that way and then turn left and go three more blocks.” He turned to his coworkers to say, “I don’t know how I’m getting home. That’s too far to walk.”

Looking enviously at the icy treat in their hands, Ciel asked, “Can I get a popsicle? I have money.”

“It’s on us. The cash registers aren’t working. Go grab a couple of things,” another cashier urged.

From the grins on their faces, they were enjoying giving items away. Ciel shrugged and walked into the store. She grabbed a lime popsicle from an open box and debated. What could serve as a meal if she didn’t get home for dinner? Peanut butter and jelly snack sandwiches looked at her. Those would work. She grabbed some chocolate muffins for dessert. If they were going to be thrown out, why not?

The employees just waved as she walked back to the front with her items. She hesitated in the doorway. “Could I get a bottle of water?”

“You’d have to pay for that.”

Ciel found two dollars in her phone wallet and handed it over. Grabbing the biggest bottle of water from the rapidly warming display case, she wheeled her suitcase outside. There was an empty bench about a half a block down. Ciel stopped and ate her popsicle, leaning forward so the quickly melting mixture dripped onto the concrete.

What was going on? Her phone still wasn’t working. How had the manager of the store known that the power wouldn’t come back on? She’d had some strange lapses in connectivity with her phone and laptop over the last few days. Maybe this area had been hit harder?

Ciel shrugged. It didn’t really matter.

Glancing up and down the street, she noticed more and more people gathering in the street among the non-operational cars. No one even tried to move them out of the road now. A young man rode by on his bike and Ciel couldn’t help being envious. Those wheels were working at least.

After finishing her frozen treat, Ciel felt better. She wiped her fingers on her pants and licked at a sticky spot, finally splashing some water on her hands when she couldn’t free herself from the limey mixture. She took a quick drink and tried to figure out what to do.

Obviously, there was nothing else to do but start walking. Catching sight of her strappy sandals, Ciel knew she couldn’t walk four blocks in those without wearing blisters on her toes and heels. She opened her suitcase and pulled out her sneakers and a pair of socks. The heat made her wish she could change into shorts, but there was no place to do that now. Hopefully, she’d find a bathroom.

After swapping footwear, she tucked her sandals away and squeezed in the food she now had. She zipped the suitcase again and slid her bottle into the front pocket before standing. This couldn’t last forever. If she got to Washington Boulevard, she could catch a taxi or rideshare to the train station.
When a gold flash in deep blue eyes captures Aurora's attention, she can't deny the instantaneous bond connecting her to the man who can shift into a massive, ancient beast. Nor can she resist calling him Daddy when he fulfills her secret dreams.

Drake watched the mountains around Wyvern erupt from the ground. With his fellow dragons, he has guarded all who settled there from harm, waiting for the one who is meant to be his. The one only he can pleasure and protect. The woman they call Aurora.

Now change is coming to Wyvern. A centuries-old pact between the founders and their powerful allies could save the inhabitants of the city once again, but only a dragon Daddy can truly guard his mate from harm.

*************FULL BOOK START HERE*************

Chapter 1

Aurora quickly walked by the old cemetery. It wasn’t that she was afraid of ghosts. She shied away from the activity happening there to give those visiting privacy. Today, a stream of people dressed in black occupied the place. With a glance, Aurora noted someone being buried in one of the old family plots. She shivered at the thought of being locked inside one of the stone mausoleums, even if her family had one.

All the founding families did. They’d established Wyvern centuries ago. The area was sheltered from marauders in a valley surrounded by mountains. Over the years, new settlers had added a ring of newer buildings around the oldest part of the city. It hadn’t grown quickly and still held that small, lost-in-time feel.

Cut off from other cities by sheer distance and tricky roads, it was an odd combination of modern living and old-fashioned practices. There was a lot of history in the stone buildings that still formed the center of the town for those who appreciated it—or even stopped to notice the cobbled streets and beastly gargoyles forming the rain spouts of many of the oldest homes and stores.

Just back from finishing her four-year business degree in Dallas, Aurora hadn’t been overjoyed to come home with her tail between her legs. She’d been so sure she’d get a job at the elite company she interned for during the summers that she hadn’t explored other options. Turned out, the company didn’t wish to offer her a position when she graduated, but preferred candidates with five or more years of experience.

She’d scrambled to apply elsewhere but everyone in her graduating class had gotten their applications in first. Aurora wished she had a hundred dollars for every interviewer who told her they wished she had applied earlier but all the positions were now filled. Then she would have been able to pay her rent for a few more months.

The whisper of a noise behind her made her turn. She jumped back at the sight of a stunningly handsome man standing right behind her. His hair was thick—jet black with streaks of silver. It looked slightly unkempt as if he had neglected to cut it for a while. She had the weirdest urge to reach forward and brush it from his eyes.

Clutching her skirt with her hands to avoid giving in to that temptation, Aurora couldn’t look away. She shivered slightly at the scar that ran along his cheek. Faded into a white line, it didn’t detract from his appeal but gave him a dangerous air, as did the scruffy beard from not shaving for several days. She did not want to mess with this man. Yet, she wondered how his beard would feel if they kissed.

He stretched out a hand and she automatically responded to his silent request. Letting go of the fabric, she placed her palm against his and watched her hand disappear as his powerful one closed around it. A fire flared in his blue eyes, turning them gold. She felt like he could see through her.

Disconcerted, Aurora tried to pull away. She panicked when a sharp heat built on the back of her hand. “You’re hurting me,” she cried as she tugged harder to free herself.

“I was not expecting to find you today,” he said harshly. His statement almost sounded like a curse.

Frightened by his tone, Aurora yanked her hand, trying to free it. He held her effortlessly, not even budging with the force of her movement.

“You will learn that all things happen on my time, Aurora. The pain should be gone now,” he commented in a deep voice that seemed to resonate within her.

To her surprise, he abruptly released her hand. She staggered back a few steps, looking at her hand for damage. It was fine. Not a single mark, bruise, or red spot marred her skin. Astonished, she looked up quickly and met his steely gaze.

Aurora was rattled to realize the sharp pain was not the only result of touching him. That reaction soon paled in comparison to a consuming arousal building deep inside her. She’d never felt an attraction like that to anyone. Frightened, Aurora turned and ran down the cobbled streets of the Old Town.

She looked back over her shoulder before turning the corner and found him still standing there watching her. Feeling as if she were physically dragging herself away, Aurora dashed to her car and threw herself inside. Driving away felt awful for a few blocks before the need to turn around ebbed slightly—still there, but less urgent.

The heat, however, didn’t abate. All she could think about was getting home to spend time with her vibrator. A picture of the room she shared with her sister once again popped into her mind. Aurora shook her head. There simply was no privacy in the home she shared with her family. There would be no relief for her there.
