Plus, he is serious about getting someone to cover my shifts for me at the diner, which helps my mom and us.

I know better than to overthink it. And Kane makes it super simple for me to forget the whole thing once we’re alone in his car, and he gives me the good morning kiss and cuddles I know he’s wanted to all along.

I’m thrilled Abby is on her way but even more thrilled how everything with Kane and me just seems to be working in our favor.

As if it’s the hand of fate or something that’s guiding us.

But the sensation of Kane’s firm hand guiding itself up under my sweater reminds me that the only magic here is him.

Everything so far is because of Kane, and I can’t help feeling another huge wave of affection for him. Wanting to tell him how much I love him.

Terrified, it might scare him off, though.

We haven’t even done anything yet, and here I want to say the ‘L’ word.

I guess I’m just an incurable romantic at heart, which is weird because I never thought romance would ever be on my radar.

Let alone up my sweater on a Saturday morning.

“I’d better get us home,” he suddenly murmurs with a grin, peeling himself off me so he can drive.

My hand accidentally, on purpose, slides into his stiff lap.

The thick line of his erection is like stone under his jeans. Reminding me that this party hasn’t even begun to get started yet.

And the thought makes me shiver.

Makes me hope I don’t disappoint a man as incredible and experienced as Kane is.

I let him focus on driving for a while, careful not to distract him too much with my hands and leaning my stiff nipples right into his body.

But I can tell Kane wouldn’t have it any other way right now.

“Did you really mean it, though?” I finally have to ask after thinking about it. “About packing up Abby’s things?”

“Sure,” Kane replies. “But I don’t think we’ll be doing much packing. Not until we know for sure Abs will be moving to New York,” Kane remarks knowingly.

As if he knows something I don’t.

“What do you mean?” I ask, sounding way blonder than I mean to.

But Kane only smiles, hooking a huge arm around me and squeezing me closer.

“You’ve seen how great a dancer Abby is,” he explains. “...I did a little of my own research this morning online. And if that show’s director doesn’t have Abby cast as a full-time thing, they need their heads examined,” he notes.

I guess he’s right. Abby’s only real hurdle so far is that she’s never had the kind of break big enough to fit how talented she really is.

And I guess I know deep down, always have, that it would be that talent that takes her away from me.

But with Kane to fill the void, I kinda already feel I’m ok without Abby. I think it’s a fair trade.

“I just hope she’s happy,” I murmur. “I mean, I hope she really is happy. I hope they do give her a permanent role.”

“The show runs for the next twelve months at least,” Kane reasons aloud. “I guess we’ll see, but I think this is the time when I have to accept that my little girl’s all grown up. I could never keep her at home, not even if I tried,” he sighs.

I don’t know why, but his comment kinda gets my back up.

“And what am I to you? Am I just a little girl as well?” I ask before thinking better of it, making him frown in thought before he answers.

“I don’t think about how old you are when I look at you, Jen,” he finally answers.

But I’m already too busy feeling stupid for even saying anything in the first place.

“And I don’t think you’re old,” I blurt out, making matters worse but only in my mind as Kane chuckles, slapping his thigh.

“Well, thanks very much,” he cries out, shaking his head and grinning like a maniac.

“I didn’t mean it like that,” I blush, but Kane’s not as sensitive as I am when it comes to that stuff.

He’s so…mature. But at the same time, he loves to horse around and have fun in between.

He grows a little more serious, telling me he knows what I mean.

“But you gotta understand, Jen,” he continues. “I look at you, and I see us, Jen. I see our future….”

He trails off at the sound of his words. Looking like maybe he’s as worried as I was earlier about scaring him off with spooky serious talk.

Words like ‘Us’ and ‘Love’ would have most guys my age running for the hills if a girl came at them with that. But when Kane talks, it sounds like he really means it.

Like this is a forever deal, not just some bump and grind with his daughter’s best friend.
