“I, I think coming here might have been a mistake, honey. Er, I’m sorry, I’m going to have to go. I love you, sweetheart.”

She hung up.

Teal stared down at her cell phone, and annoyance ran through her.

This wasn’t the first time her parents had been through this. Her mother hadn’t run off when her dad had an affair.

Pulling up her father’s number, she placed her cell phone to her ear and waited.

“Teal, honey, I have been waiting for you to call.”

“Seriously, waiting for me to call?” Teal asked.

“Sweetheart?”

“Dad, what the hell are you doing?”

“This is not for you to get involved with.”

“Not for me to get involved with. You left. I’m your daughter. Mom quit her job. She found us a nice house in a town in the middle of nowhere, and you didn’t even come and see her. What the hell is the matter with you?” She had never called out her dad. Never gotten involved in their crap like this. She always let them work it out.

“Teal, this is none of your concern.”

“You’re being unreasonable,” Teal said.

“You have no idea what you’re talking about.”

“Mom had an affair. She slept with her boss. I know what it is about. You ran out to a different freaking country, and if I recall, when you slept with one of your PAs or secretaries, Mom didn’t run.”

There was silence. “You … knew about that?”

“Of course, I knew about it. How could I not have known? You and Mom don’t argue quietly, Dad. She took you back. You made it work, and now she has made a mistake, and you don’t even do the same for her. Are you going to finally let her go? Will you divorce her?”

“Honey, it’s not that simple.”

“Dad, it is that simple. You’re being cruel by doing this. I hope one day, you can both remember you actually have a daughter here, waiting for either of you to make a decision.” Teal hung up the phone and then jumped as Jaxson wrapped his arms around her waist.

“How are you feeling?” he asked.

“I’m angry and I’m pissed off. Don’t get me wrong, my mom isn’t a saint. I get that. Boy, do I get it. A million times I get it, but my dad’s not a saint either. Neither of them are.”

“Do you want them to work it out?”

“I want them to find a solution that will make them happy.” She sighed. “Once and for all, and if it’s divorce, then they have to do it.” She leaned back against him. “I can’t believe I have argued with my dad while I was completely naked.”

Jaxson chuckled.

“While my sexy neighbor was also naked.”

“We’re a whole load of naked.” He pressed a kiss to her neck. “Come on. I’ve got breakfast ready.” He took her hand and led her back to the dining room table. He pulled out the chair for her to sit.

“Jaxson, we’re … naked.”

“I know.” He patted the seat. “Have a seat.”

She rolled her eyes but lowered into the chair, gasping as the cold hit her flesh.

He pushed the chair under and took the seat beside her at the head of the table.

“I’m going to have to go home,” Teal said. “Sometime this weekend.”

“Tomorrow night, we’ll go around the back. You can grab some clothes and stay with me for as long as your parents are out of town. I don’t like you being alone in that house.”

“Jaxson, it’s a quiet neighborhood.”

“Don’t care. Anything can happen anywhere. Eat your food.”

She didn’t know if it was bad that she loved how bossy he got.

She picked up her fork and saw he’d made them both a big breakfast. Bacon, eggs, and she even saw a sausage as well. Some tomatoes. It looked good. Hunger hit her quickly, and she started to chop her food up, hoping she didn’t look like a pig as she ate.

Normally for breakfast, it was plain, old cereal. Not that there was ever anything wrong with that.

“Do you want some bread?” he said.

“Oh, yes, please. I’m starving.”

“Don’t worry. I’ll remember to feed you properly from now on.” He winked at her.

She chuckled. It had been a long time since she felt this way. Being with Jaxson made her happy. Even after talking to her parents, which sometimes made her feel sick, that wasn’t there right now. Only Jaxson.

“So, I was thinking, we’ll eat this, then we’ll get changed. I want you to go through another two examination conditions today. I’ll mark them after each one.”

“My parents are out of the country. We’ve got the whole house to ourselves. Do you really want to … study and work?” She knew she didn’t. There was an opportunity to be alone with him, and she wanted to take it.

Jaxson took her hand and pulled her closer, kissing her knuckles. “There will be plenty of time for all of that later. For now, we’re going to make sure you pass your tests and that you don’t have to repeat. You’re not dropping out either, so don’t give me any lip.”
