“Wow,” I said, pursing my lips. “I had no idea Brad was so…”

“Into role playing?” Luna offered, and we all laughed at that. “He has a good heart,” she continued, a kind of wistful look in her blue eyes. “But sometimes he doesn’t think about how other people have boyfriends, lives to live, shops to run, and dresses to make.” She nodded toward the dress.

“Happily ever afters to facilitate,” Sephie added, and Luna smiled at that.

“I do what I can,” she said. “I’d love to see a picture of you in it after the event.”

“You got it,” I said, my phone buzzing to remind me to take my meds. I left my water in the car, so we had to book it. “Thank you again! And good luck with Brad!” I called as we headed out.

“I don’t need luck,” she called back. “It’s not happening!”

We laughed as the door closed behind us, and I got into Sephie’s car, hurrying to take my pill on time. I’d been really good about it ever since I had the incident last month.

Jim: Did you take your meds, baby?

Me: Yes, dear.

Jim: Good girl.

“Wow,” Sephie said, turning onto the road.

“What?”

“You’re looking at your phone like you want to devour it,” she teased. “Whatever he said, I don’t want to know.”

Jim: You coming home to us? Binx is insufferable right now.

Me: On my way.

Jim: Love you.

Me: Love you back.

I put my phone back in my bag, unable to stop smiling.

“Okay, fine,” Sephie said. “What did he say?”

I looked out the window, watching the town as we drove toward my new home. “That he loves me.”

“That’s it?” she teased. “That’s what has you smiling like that?”

My heart expanded in my chest. “That’s all I’ve ever needed.”
