I pull back for a moment.
“No, I’m not! What do you mean?”
She shrugs.
“It was one little lie,” Kaci says. “It doesn’t seem that bad.”
I stare at my buddy.
“But Bridge told me the ceremony was all about repentance and making amends for my evil ways. Not only that, but he threatened me. He was going to tell the congregation that he caught me watching X-rated stuff on my work computer. That’s not serious?”
But Kaci doesn’t look too put out.
“I’m sure he was just having some fun with you, Renee. Guys do that all the time.”
I squint.
“Yes, but this was my reputation at stake, not to mention the fact that I engaged in the dirtiest ritual at his house! And it was all fake!”
Kaci nods, pursing her lips. But then she shoots me a sideways look.
“But you liked it, right?”
I pause for a moment, staring at her.
“Yes, but still!”
She nods.
“I know this is tough to hear, but I don’t think it’s that big of a deal. I mean, if Bridge made you feel good and you enjoyed it too, then why make a mountain out of a molehill?”
I stare at her.
“Because he threatened me and lied in the process?”
She shrugs.
“I know, but take it from someone who deals with alpha males all the time. If these men want a woman, they’ll do anything to get her. They’ll rob, steal, commit violence, and probably even give up their first-born child. I know it’s wrong, but in some ways, you should be flattered.”
I stare at my buddy with disbelief.
“Are you serious?”
Kaci merely nods, looking unbothered.
“Yeah, because these guys are used to getting what they want, when they want it. Bridge Jessop saw you, and he wanted you, Renee. Opportunity knocked, and he’s an assertive man who not only answered the door, but leveraged the situation to his advantage.”
I stare at her some more.
“Yeah, but did I tell you where Bridge got the idea for the ceremony?”
She grins.
“You mean the dildo ceremony?”
“Yes!” I bite out. “He told me that he got the whole thing from watching porn! I mean, isn’t that insulting?”
Kaci merely giggles.
“No, not really. All guys watch porn, honey. Hell, even I watch porn every now and then, and I like it. Again, try to keep things in perspective, Renee. It’s not that bad if you enjoyed it, right?”
I take a long sip of my coffee, avoiding eye contact with this obviously insane woman. After all, her words are so crazy. I can’t believe Kaci’s telling me that I should forgive Bridge and just let bygones by bygones. But then, she shoots me another sly grin.
“Besides Renee, didn’t this all start because Bridge caught YOU watching porn? So isn’t that a bit of the pot calling the kettle black?”
I sputter.
“I guess, but it’s different! My porn-watching was by accident. A pop-up just appeared when I was browsing houseplants.”
Kaci nods, her eyes humorous
“Yeah, but you didn’t turn it off, because deep down, you’re a nasty girl. Come on, Renee. Admit it.”
I huff with exasperation.
“But even if that’s true, Bridge still lied to me.”
Kaci shrugs, her brown curls bouncing.
“Maybe, but I know him pretty well. Not super well, but Bridge and my dad are sort of friends. Or, at least, as close to friends as my dad has.”
I stare.
“So?”
“So, Bridge Jessop is an alpha male, don’t you get it? He’s dominant, possessive and utterly ruthless. Yeah, he’s got a soft side when it comes to you, but don’t be fooled. If you weren’t his woman, things would be very different.”
I sigh.
“Kaci, I’m failing to see how this changes anything. I mean, aren’t we going in circles here? Regardless of what type of man Bridge is, he still lied to me. That’s the big issue here!”
She shrugs.
“I get it, but don’t lie to yourself, is all I’m saying, Renee. I know it’s easy to be righteous and to take what feels like the moral high ground, but again, you had fun with the dildos, right?”
I blush, looking around the coffee shop.
“Shhh! OMG, people can hear!”
Kaci shrugs.
“So let them hear. You had fun, right?” she presses.
I sigh again.
“I did,” I whisper. “It was amazing, and to be honest, it became part of our regular sex life. We use them pretty much every time we’re intimate, and you know I take them in my back door too. My ass has been so sore lately because I actually took the biggest one in my behind just recently!” I giggle, clenching a bit at the memory.
But Kaci isn’t shocked at all.
“See? I’m proud of you. You feel so relaxed around your boyfriend that you’re willing to try new things, and it was amazing too.”
I giggle.
“Yeah, that part definitely was. But still, it’s bad. What Bridge did was evil.”
At this point, my friend is starting to lose patience because we really are going around in circles.
