“I just have to tell you one thing, though,” I said. “If we get married—”

“When we get married,” he corrected, leaning in again to take my lower lip between his teeth, gently biting it in a way that got me from half-chub to fully hard immediately.

“When we get married,” I said, excited just to hear the words, “I’m definitely not changing my name. Because even though Jack Wood would be the funniest thing in the world, I just don’t see that happening for me.”

“What?” Tristan protested. “Jack Wood is a great name! There’s like, a NASCAR driver named Jack Wood, I’m pretty sure. I mean, Sam would never let you off the hook with a name that sounds like a command to jerk off, but still.”

I couldn’t stop laughing, even as I dragged him back in through the doors toward the bed. “I can’t wait to be a part of the Wood family, Tris,” I said. I kissed his cheek, his jaw, his forehead, anywhere I could possibly kiss. “And moving to Jade River with you was the best decision I’ve ever made. Now get in that bed.”

I was going to miss Kansas for the rest of my life. I’d miss my Dad, I’d miss Amberfield, hell, I’d even miss seeing cows on any random street corner.

And I’d miss the guys from Red’s Tavern, all of the time.

But I couldn’t wait to get to know the shape of my life here, in this small mountain town with the love of my life.

All I’d needed was my best friend to show me the way.
