Daimon,

You probably don't know me. No, I'm sure you don't know me. I'm Addie Sakis. I've been in most of your classes since freshman year. I know it's stupid to think I can do anything for you, but…I want to. I watch you. I watch you even when I don't mean to. I catch myself smiling and laughing as you twirl your pen around.

That's until I see your eyes.

I don't know what it is exactly, but I know something is broken inside you. I want to make it better. I want to be there for you. To hold you. To care for you. To keep you safe. There's something inside me that tells me to reach out, but I'm scared. I'm afraid of you, but my heart…my heart made me write this.

I never have the intention of giving you this letter. This is my way to keep my heart at bay as I sit across from you, loving you desperately. Daimon, I wish I could be more to you, but I know I never will be. But know you are good. I know it. You just hide it behind that asshole exterior hoping no one notices your pain, but, Daimon, it's there and it's plain enough for me to see it. I'm here, always. I will be here, behind you, in your shadow, supporting you, loving you.

Addie

Fucking girl. Who the fuck was she who thought I needed anyone? I was about to rip up the letter when I stopped myself. I folded it up and placed it into my wallet as I headed out. Would she be in geography class? Fuck, I didn't even know her face.

“It’s a surprise you can even pass any class the way you don't give a shit about school,” Addie said as I forced her to sit with me at lunch. It didn’t take long for me to find her. At first, I wanted to teach her a lesson, but those damn eyes of hers changed me.

“Addie, unlike you, I don't need to study. I’m already smart,” I said cockily as I smirked at her. I didn't need to study. I don't know why, but classes were easy for me. I hardly had to do anything as I passed my classes with straight As.

“Please, you probably pay the teachers to pass you,” Addie bit out underneath her breath.

I laughed. I loved that she was afraid of me but fought back as much as she could, hoping she wasn't passing any of my lines. Her eyes would dart back and forth watching those who would watch our exchange. I didn't give a shit and made sure no one touched her. She was mine to do with. My Addie.

“What does Addie even mean anyway?” I asked, knowing she was Greek and Addie wasn’t a common name.

“It’s short for my full name,” she said, low into her chest

“Short for what?” I pushed, rolling my eyes at her.

“Adrasteia, it means inescapable, the one who doesn’t flee,” she muttered as she barely looked up at me with those eyes of hers. The name suited her perfectly. Addie, whether she knew it or not, was a fighter, and I loved bringing it out of her. “Are you done, Daimon? I need to head for class.” She stood up abruptly, the chair stretching across the cafeteria floor. My head fell to one side as I glared at her, her little body shook. Was she afraid of me, or was she shaking from her nervousness?

“For now, Addie, I'm done, but only for now,” I said callously as I smirked. She huffed and ran out of the cafeteria. The moment Addie was no longer around me, I felt lonely and cold. When did her existence matter so much?

“I see little Addie left upset,” Rafe, the only other friend I had besides Darren, came and sat down next to me. I hated the way he said her name. Only I should be able to say it. It was a rare, beautiful name. It was her name. “Take it easy, Evans, you look like you're going to kill me,” Rafe poked at me.

“Was that Addie who just left?” asked Darren as he sat down across for me watching her leave.

“Who else would be able to sit here?” Rafe laughed. “I’m sure Clara would love to be allowed to sit at our table,” he continued to tease me.

“Screw off, Rafe,” I hissed. Clara was a pain in my ass. She followed me everywhere, pestering me, pushing me. I hated it.

I didn’t completely hate going to school since Addie came into my life. She seemed to provide the right kind of entertainment. When she was around, I was amused and I liked her mouthy words.

“Addie? Addie?” I cried out in the middle of the hallway the moment I saw her pass by the pool and gym area. “HEY!” I cried out. Everyone in the hallway stopped and moved to the side as I menacingly walked to her as she stood with her back to me, frozen. She tried to act as if she didn’t hear me, like I would let her get away with that. She was constantly on my mind. It was driving me nuts. I couldn’t understand it. I just couldn’t, but I wanted her to want to see me. But Addie, fucking Addie hated the very sight of me. I didn’t understand. After reading her letter, shouldn’t she be happy she was with me? “You dare ignore me, your master?” I said angrily as I threw my arm around her shoulder. She looked at me through narrowed eyes.
