I just… didn’t have that.

I’d never had that.

Not since I’d gone away to college, several years younger than all my peers.

I had my father. Of course I did. But he was working halfway around the world. He was available by phone on occasion, but never to be there for me when I needed a little help, a little care.

And, well, I simply didn’t have anyone else.

I’d been so content with my life until then that I didn’t realize how sad it was that I didn’t have anyone to lean on, anyone to call after such a traumatic night.

So having Bael, well, it meant a lot more than I felt comfortable admitting. Even if he’d been an asshole to act like nothing had happened between us.

It still meant something to me.

Enough that I’d wiped a couple of stray tears off my face before tying up my hair, so I could climb under the spray of the shower, washing away the night before, then climbing into fresh clothes, brushing my teeth, then heading out to the main area of my apartment in search of some coffee to chase away the medication hangover.

And then there he was.

Sitting on my couch by the window.

Several stacks of my books were all over the coffee table, and he had a notepad opened there as well, full of fresh-looking scribbles from the pen that was still perched between his fingers, spilling a little ink onto his skin.

He was still there.

I mean, we were just going to sidestep the whole ‘it’s super hot when a dude is interested in books’ thing. Though, I was sure I would circle back to that eventually. And frequently.

But he was still there.

Waiting for me to wake up, so he could check on me again.

Suddenly, I didn’t care that he’d deflated my ego when he’d acted like nothing had happened after we’d hooked up.

So when everything inside of me tugged me forward toward him, I didn’t fight it.

I went along. Willingly. Happily.

I wasn’t even sure of my intention until I was climbing into his lap, wrapping my arms around the back of his neck, then sealing my lips to his.

All I knew before that second was how much I appreciated him, how attractive it was for a man to actually… give a damn.

But as soon as our lips met, it was like desire shot through my system all at once.

It was the aching between my thighs, the heaviness of my chest, the racing of my heart, the way my skin felt like it was buzzing.

There was a moment of shocked inaction before Bael’s hands were going around me, traveling down my back to sink into my ass, dragging me down lower onto his lap, making me intimately aware of the fact that I wasn’t the only one overcome with desire.

My hips lowered down more, feeling his cock press against the juncture of my thighs, making a ragged moan move through me, muffled by his lips.

His hands flexed on my ass before coaxing my hips to grind down against him. Once, twice, three times, until I took over all by myself, spurred on by the clawing need deep in my core.

Only then did his hands move away, slipping under my top slightly, just enough for him to gather the material and start to yank it upward.

My lips ripped from his to raise my arms over my head, so he could free the material from them.

The cool air contrasted with the heat of his hands, making a shiver course through me as his hungry gaze moved from my face to my bare chest. A small, delicious little growling sound escaped me as his hands slid from my ribs and upward to cup my breasts, dragging a little whimper out of me as my hardened nipples met his palms.

My eyes closed as I tipped my head back, getting lost in the sensation as his thumbs and forefingers began to roll my nipples.

“No,” Bael growled. “Look at me,” he demanded. “I want to see what I’m doing to you,” he added, making my belly do an unexpected little flip-flop.

My heavy lids slid open, finding fire raging in his deep eyes. Almost literally. They had those strange red highlights again, but seemed even brighter than before.

My hips did a little roll as his fingers did the same, making a fresh wave of need move through me.

“Fuck,” Bael hissed, his fingers doing a little squeeze and twist instead of a roll, the pain-pleasure mix catching me off guard.

My gasp and whimper only made his eyes go more molten.

“Get on your knees,” he demanded, voice rough, as his hands went to my hips, pushing me back off of his lap.

My belly wobbled at his words as I slid down off of his lap and between his spread legs, my hands sliding up his legs toward the fly of his pants.
