Then something shifted. Over the weeks leading up to the binding ceremony, Emilie…changed. The closer they got, the further away she went. Her mind, once a lively, vibrant thing, was now slushy and unfamiliar. The light left her eyes, replaced by fear. She began to forget things—people, places, memories. And Lorcan realized too late what had happened.

When he confronted Graves, it was already over. Emilie was dead. Graves was responsible. And their entire world shattered into a million pieces.

“Is there anything else you require, sir?” Maureen asked.

“Get me everything we have on the four objects of the Tuatha de Danann.”

Maureen agreed without question. “Of course.” Then she disappeared to begin to research.

Because Lorcan wasn’t going to sit back and wait for Graves to find a way to hurt Kierse again, as he had Emilie. He knew his brother and the risks he was willing to take to achieve his aims. Kierse wouldn’t be collateral damage in his next plan.

He punched in a number to a bookstore in Dublin. Oisín answered on the third ring. “The Goblin Market bookstore.”

“Oisín,” Lorcan said.

“Lorcan,” he said demurely. “How can I help you?”

“It’s time.”

“Are you certain?”

Lorcan smiled. He needed to get a step ahead of his enemy. Three of the objects were already in play: Graves had the spear and the cauldron, Lorcan had the sword locked away. That only left one, the most powerful of them all.

“Time to go after the stone.”
