Camille. . .

Tears leaked from the corner of my eyes and spilled over.

What did I do? Am I that pitiful? I can’t go a day near a man without keeping my legs closed?

Even more. . .how would I ever push this moment out of my mind. It would forever be imprinted deep into my heart.

Xander was only my second lover, but so help me, it was like he’d destroyed my body for anybody else.

Even Ethan.

My body pulsed with Xander’s energy as if he were still on top of me, pumping between my thighs. Phantom fangs continued to nip at my flesh. A constant vibration trembled on my nipples and clitoris. I clenched my shaking fingers into a fist.

Suddenly, noise sounded outside of the tent. Without making too much of a racket, I sat up.

Footsteps thumped our way.

Voices came next.

“Wake up.” I gently shook Xander. “Somebody is outside.”

Xander’s eyes snapped open. “What?”

“Someone is around our camp.”

Xander sniffed the air. “Blasted blood pirates.”

“What do we do?”

His voice hit my mind with no restraint. Stay inside the tent.

I tensed.

They get a lot of money for finding dominas and dragging them back to the castle.

Terror surged through me. I quietly searched for my dagger and threw on my clothes quickly.

I thought back, hoping that Xander was reading my mind.

I’m not going to sit in the tent and not do anything.

“Xander the great Path Finder! I smell you. Come on out,” a man with a deep voice said and clucked twice. “Your path ends here today.”

Xander’s lips formed into a frown. His fangs pushed out. His gold eyes glowed with rage.

Please, Camille. Stay in here. I know this pirate, and he’s no friend.

Right when Xander was about to leave, the tent ripped from around us and flung into the air.

The night sky now hovered over us. A chilly breeze rushed by, freezing my bare skin. I clutched the dagger in my right hand and covered it with a blanket. Three massive vampires with brass-colored eyes gazed down at us. One had white hair. Those light strands fell past his shoulders and hit his waist. The others had short brown hair.

For some reason when they turned to me, more clucks ripped from their throats.

Why are they doing that?

The white-haired one did three short clucks and the others silenced.

That’s how they communicate with each other.

I widened my eyes.

If you ever hear five really fast clucks, just run in the other direction.

I nodded and hoped he saw the movement.

“Look, brothers. Xander’s not alone.” The white haired one lifted his nose in the air and inhaled. “Aww. You’re always the lucky one. Tell me what sort of mage is she?”

“She’s not a mage.” Xander rose into a standing position.

The pirate countered, “With that red hair, she’s not human.”

Xander still wore no clothes. The two male vampires behind the white-haired one raised their eyebrows as they gazed at the birthmarks on Xander’s legs.

Did they now know what he was?

I also stood, but pulled the blanket around my chest with my right hand, hiding my nudity.

My left hand continued to hold the dagger.

Maybe they don’t know what the marks are. I didn’t until I lived at the castle.

The white-haired vampire held a wooden gun. It squeaked as he twisted the top and then aimed it at Xander. “I told you your time would come and that I would wreck you. Didn’t I?”

“Yes.” Xander nodded. “You did, but let her leave. She’s nothing.”

“I can smell the sex and her blood all over the blanket from here. She’s something to you. Therefore, I’m interested.” The white-haired vampire smiled at me. “Allow me to introduce myself. I’m Zee. I’ve come to save you from this brutish fanged creature next to you.”

I swallowed. “I don’t need saving.”

Xander got in front of me. Don’t talk to him and stay behind me.

White Hair growled, “Move again, Xander and I shoot you.”

Xander laughed. “Do you think the bullet will hit me before I rush to you and tear your head off?”

“You’re known for being fast, but no one is faster than a wooden bullet.”

Without any hesitation, Xander charged for Zee. He was so quick, I only made out a blur of color and then Xander’s hands were around the vampire’s neck.

Zee’s gun dropped to the ground with a clatter.

The other two vampires pointed their guns at Xander.

“Listen all of you. I’ll kill your brother with no mercy,” Xander warned. “Toss your guns behind you if you want him to live.”

They flung their guns in the opposite direction. The wooden weapons crashed into the ground.

And then, suddenly an arm wrapped around my neck.

Oh no! Who’s this?!

The stranger’s voice came out deep. “Xander, did you forget we’re four brothers in all?”

I screamed as the stranger dragged me back, knocking me off balance.

“No!” Xander shoved Zee to the ground and held his hands up. “Leeb, don’t hurt her.”
