Then there was Colby, who had sat by my side, holding my hand for hours while I got it done, his eyes glued to me. He was fucking mesmerized by it. By me.

That had changed me, me getting that ink. Me purging all my shit to that fucking reporter—who I hadn’t seen hide nor hair of.

Things had changed.

For the better.

Or at least they had been.

Though I wanted to pound the rest of my whisky, I gagged, barely able to keep the last swallow down.

“And you’re sure it’s a copycat?” I stared at my living room, the boxes that I’d gotten today to start packing up my things to move into the house Colby found us.

The home Colby found us.

It was a dream. A Spanish style ranch, out in the desert, no neighbors. Well, except Violet and Elden who were right down the road. It didn’t seem like it, though. It seemed like the house was the only residence in the world. Colby was renovating the closet and the bathroom.

That was after he’d bought it. Bought it. The second I’d walked through, I’d jumped into his arms, kissed the shit out of him and said, “This is the one.” He’d kissed me back, of course. Squeezed my ass too. I’d hoped he’d fuck me right there in the empty house.

But he left me, making a call on his cellphone.

Then he’d fucked me in the house. The empty house. Our house.

When I found out he’d bought it with his money, I screamed at him. He yelled back. It was a long fight about ‘men taking care of their women’ and ‘feminism being a real thing.’ Eventually, we’d compromised somewhat with me paying for all of the furniture. But I was still pissed. Fucking bikers.

“Pretty sure it’s a copycat considering the victim, dumping ground, method of death,” Ollie’s reply jerked me back into the conversation about murders. I was getting déjà vu. “Though everything was pretty sloppy, messy. There was even DNA left at the scene. He’s an amateur and should be caught quickly if the cops are actually doing their jobs these days.”

“They will be,” I mused. “All the publicity was not kind to the local law enforcement, and they won’t be eager for a repeat.”

A bike roared down the street, stopping outside.

“I’m guessing the club’s hacker is aware of this too,” I deduced, the timing a little too ideal.

“If he’s worth his salt he will,” Ollie snapped.

I couldn’t help but smile. Ollie and Wire had a not so friendly rivalry. It was almost cute. It could’ve been the recipe for a great love story if Wire wasn’t already embroiled in one with some woman in Amber. The Old Ladies loved to talk about it. Apparently, it was causing a big splash and was full of drama. What Sons of Templar courtship didn’t?

“Okay, keep me updated, I’ve got an overprotective biker to deal with,” I said, calculating how long it would take Colby to park and run up the stairs.

“Hence why I stay indoors, have a virtual relationship and a great vibrator,” she snickered before ringing off.

I shook my head, still smiling. One day, Ollie would be knocked off her feet by someone who got her off the net and into the real world.

The door crashed open with about as much drama as I’d expected. Colby tore into the room as if he were expecting to face off with a knife wielding madman.

I smiled at him when he found no madman, just me sitting at the computer.

“There’s a—”

“Copycat,” I finished for him. “You guys get your news slow.”

His shoulders were practically hitting his earlobes. “This isn’t fuckin’ funny.” He was breathing heavily, like he’d sprinted here.

My smile disappeared. “I know. A girl is dead.”

“He will be dead,” he paced around the room. “The fuck who did this.”

“I bet,” I agreed.

“You’re not going anywhere alone,” Colby halted, his intense eyes locking onto me. “You’ll have a patched member on you, a prospect at the very least. You’ll carry this everywhere.” He held up a gun.

I tilted my head at him, examining him in his panicked, ‘must protect my woman’ mode. It was cute.

“I figured as much.” I hadn’t expected the gun, but it was a nice addition.

His brows furrowed. “I expected you to argue about this.”

I shrugged. “Yeah, but unlike all the other arguments in our future, I know I don’t have a chance in hell at winning this one, so I figured I’ll just embrace it.”

“Embrace it?” Colby repeated, looking at me like I’d grown a second head. “No woman in the history of the Sons of Templar has just … embraced it.”

“Well, I do like to go down in history.” I hopped off my barstool, crossing the distance between us. “I’ve already experienced the bad guy catching me,” I grasped the sides of his cut. “You’ve already experienced the bad guy catching me.” Colby was stock-still. “It’s not gonna happen again. So if a biker has to come bra shopping with me, so be it.”
